Part Eight

Rushing water came from both ends of the cave. The waterfall coming to crush us all and another waterfall that signified our freedom.

I had always wondered what was at the mouth of the cave. Turns out it was huge waterfall that trapped us inside. A cliff face propelling water at high speeds over our heads.

Creatures were using every last ounce of energy they had to leap through the gushing water.

All we could do was pray to a dead goddess that there was something better on the other side.

Bahari was the first to disappear. I could have sworn she smirked at me as she entered the comfort of her salty home.

What a bitch.

Still, I urged forward dragging the elderly male with me.

The waterfall behind us had caught up. Hunters were vanishing into the water. Large rocks fell around us creating barricades in front of us.

I didn't dare look back. I would not be one of those people who trip because they were too busy looking behind them.

I had seen enough movies to know how that turns out.

We were feet away from mouth of the cave when a loud battle cry came from behind us.

Peter was coming. Jumping towards us, shooting his gun aimlessly.

I didn't jump. I didn't leap. I didn't sore. I flew out of that cave.

My legs continued to run even though I wasn't even touching the ground. One arm flailing in the air, the other gripping the older male so I didn't loose him in the water.

Heavy pounds of water poured on our head. Still, we shot through it.

As fast as it had come, it dispersed.

The cold dark cave was replaced with blue skies and crystal clear water.

It was me against gravity. And gravity always wins.

As far as I had jumped, we fell even further.

And I screamed the whole way.

The crystal clear water didn't look so nice anymore.

The male and I let go of each other, each of us trying to turn into a bird and soar away. Flapping our arms, crazily. Hoping it would slow us down.

It didn't.

Unfortunately we just plummeted.

I took a deep breath of air before we hit the water with a splash.

The water was cool as it cleansed me from the filth of the cave.

Bubbles filled the water. The creatures and hunters that hit the water looked like bullets as they sunk into the ocean. But nobody stayed under for long. All of them desperate for air.

I opened my eyes underwater in search of the elderly shifter.

Instead I was welcomed by storming sea green eyes staring at me with a lot of animosity, inches from my face.

My heart stopped beating and my eyes might have rolled to the back of my head in fright.

She wrapped her hand around my neck and dragged me deeper into the water.

But it didn't matter because we both felt the small change.

She slammed me against the sand at the bottom of the pool we had fallen into. I struggled against her hand. Fighting for the remaining oxygen I had left.

She grinned like a maniac. Her voice was different under the water. Darker, scarier, the stuff nightmares were made of. "Now where did we leave off?"

It's not like I could even plea my case to her.

Plus, she did have a good reason to kill me.

Not only was I going to save everyone for free, once that water spread, Bahari could have saved herself the entire time.

I clawed and grabbed her. I broke her gold jewelry as she tightened her hold on my neck. I scratched her skin drawing blood. I pushed and kicked to get away from her. I did everything I could to escape.

I wasn't letting her anywhere near my eyes.

I'm ninety five percent positive she was actually trying to tear my eyes balls out.

Shadows swam over top of us. Waiting for her to be done so they could take their turn in eating me alive.

My movements were slow and rugged under the water.

She was even more graceful under of the water than out. Her power coming from the ocean.

Still I did not stop fighting.

Bahari held me under water for what felt like hours. My lungs burned, but I did not stop fighting. I refused to let her win.

I stayed conscious for way longer than what should have been possible.

The longer I lived, the angrier she became. Something inside her broke. "Why won't you die?"

We both knew the answer.

First of all, bitterness fuelled my will to live. The refusal to die is actually a very strong superpower.

Second of all, I now had a body as strong as silver.

I couldn't help but smirk even under the water.

She roared loudly, dragging me to the surface.

She threw me into the air so my body flopped like a dead fish. I broke the surface trying to catch my breath.

So much water was trapped in my lungs.

"Are you done having," I wheezed, "a tantrum?"

She glared her classic glare. "You are young and stupid. One day your tricks will catch up to you."

I tried to grin right back at her. "Oh, I'm sure they will. But that day isn't today."

The water formed around me, threatening to take me back down. "But I swear it. I will be the one who kills you in the end."

I didn't bother paying attention. A lot of creatures have said that. I'm sure she won't be the last.

Plus, I had bigger issues. Like not drowning.

I finally reached the sandy bank of the ocean we fell into. Other creatures were laying on the sand, dealing with their own issues.

I put my arms under the older male's shoulder as we stumbled out of the water.

My eyes stung from the salt. I was coughing up seaweed. My body was zapped of all energy.

When we reached the white sand I dropped the old guy to the ground.

I mean I only had so much good in me.

I fell to my hands and knees, heaving the water out of my lungs.

"Thank you, thank you." He cried in between his own coughs.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Don't mention it." I dismissed him.

"Thank you." He repeated.

"No seriously. Don't mention it. Don't tell people I helped you. It will only ruin my reputation." I said wiping the vomit from my mouth.

I hated vomit.

The sound of splashing broke me out of my thoughts.

I leaned my head back to the sky and groaned. "What now?"

I turned around to see Peter knee deep in water staggering towards me.

His eyes looked dead angry. He wobbled from exhaustion, and waved his gun at me.

"You did this, you animal." He burst pointing between me and the now collapsed cave. "You are going to pay for this."

I sighed deeply flopping on my butt in the sand. "You have tortured me for months. I have outsmarted a sea witch. I single handedly blew up a cave, and kicked some ass. Can't you just give me a break?"

"No." He bellowed, pointing his gun at my head.

The creatures around me watched in fear.

The water turned behind him.

"What are you doing?" The old male whispered harshly to me. "Get up or he will shoot you."

I rolled my eyes. "Have you seen his aim? I'm safer sitting in one place."

"I will kill you." He screamed at us. "I will kill all of you beasts."

"No you won't."

He narrowed his eyes at me.

I smirked wickedly. "I told you not to underestimate me. Now look who's laughing."

His screwed his face up to yell again, but it was too late.

Bahari was already here.

Nobody really knew what kind of power a sea creature had. I had a pretty good idea when Bahari sat in a fountain coming from the ocean above the water.

Peter turned around like a drunken man. His eyes shown with fear. His gasped for breath, anything to let him speak, but it was too late.

Bahari laughed menacingly as she surged forward. She grabbed him by the foot and dragged him to the bottom of the ocean.

We could hear his screaming from under the water.

We all sat in silence for a moment. Digesting all that had happened.

"Well, imma head out before she comes back for me." I said making my way down the beach now that I had finally caught my breath.

I'm pretty sure I'll be coughing up guppies for the next year.

"What are you going to do now?" One of the creatures asked.

I turned around to look at them. They stared at me with wide eyes and broken bodies.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I have a treasure chest I gotta find."

The older male limped foreword. "What are we going to do?"

"I don't know." I shrugged again. "But you'll be okay."

It was the light that had been restored in their eyes from a little bit of freedom. That told me they would be okay.

I didn't want to be like Bahari when I got older. I would be better.

Creatures everywhere, would know my name. Know exactly what I had done and what I was capable of.

I was off to a pretty good start too. Tricking the bitch of the sea Bahri. That had to get me some points.

After all, now I had a name worth remembering.
