Epilogue: Her Adventure Begins

And Scene.

Zeta was engrossed in the book but she snapped and gasped as she skimmed along the blue-stripped pages with the ending. She was wrapped in a fluffy pink blanket like a warm cocoon .She knew that Hamia died but it was odd and brain-racking. She rolled up her duvet but all that clouded her head was how she was connected to her death and how she fit in the puzzle. Zeta now knows her purpose but what supernatural is she and why now? She sighed heavily and stared at her digital alarm clock on the nightstand. She padded from the circular wooden platform and climbed the stairs. It was five past ten and she stared at her phone on a vanity.

Sunday, 21st August on her black wallpaper. She clutched her phone and stared at the orangery sunset. Zeta knew she hardly read but she knew days passed. She stared at her change of clothes from a short black dress to leggings, slippers and long sleeved T-shirt. She gulped and ogled at the mirrorless wall. She preferred the attic to any other room. She felt like Harry when she received the letters way too many times. She fixed her bed and cleaned the empty fizzy bottles, biscuits wrappers and crumbs from her bed. She sniffed her armpit and gagged. She was conflicted and scared as she lifted and climbed down the stairs and spat at her parents arguing at each other and Loean tapping on his phone and not paying attention. He looked at Zeta and scowled as her parents stopped and sighed. She walked slowly down the stairs.

Her parents sighed and smiled."Zeta, thank God you're alright.''Her mother said as Zeta shrugged.

"Where the hell have you been?"Her dad yelled, hands balled into fist.

She raised a brow. "Mom, dad. I've been up here all along."She said, unfazed then they whirled to Leon.

"And you, young man. Didn't we tell you to watch her?"Her mother snapped as she sprang to her feet.

"She's sixteen, mom."He retorted with a groan.

"But-her condition." she defended, hands crossed.

"Yeah, your daughter hallucinates and sees things in her mirror."

"Your sister-"

"No,s-she's not h-her." his voice cracked," My sister is smart not stupid or a retard." Zeta was unfazed about her brother's hurtful words. Sure, she was numb to his words. He believes the girl in front of him is an imposter or his sister is brain damaged. Why else would she act childish? She couldn't stay at one place so while they shouted she slipped away and looked at things intently. She ran her hands and grabbed picture frames and albums. She had wanderlust. Pictures of her and her family in different parts of Germany .Them in Munich, Berlin and Hamburg...

"Look mom, Zeta doesn't care. She's unbothered does she even recognize us as her family."He shouted, his voice echoed as he pointed to her.

The photos showed them in Scotland, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria. They avoided mirrors and travelled to churches or mostly clinics even though her mother was a nurse. She waited patiently for her family to stop then she smiled as Loan sneered.

"I was reading."She blurted, her parents snapped their hands and gaped. She bit her lip and tried not to giggle.

"The retard can read."He snapped, his father cursed then slapped his son's back. She nodded, Zeta didn't favour novels or classic literature but she preferred graphic novels, comic books and record books and sometimes kid's books. She nodded again as her brother gaped.

"Mom, dad. I got to show you something."She squealed as they exchanged looks and shrugged.

She ran up and got the letter and hid the notebook and realised the letter had changed to a normal scholarship and acceptance letter. She gasped and clamped her mouth and ran giddily to her parents. Loan gasped harder and skimmed the letter as he reread and gawked.

"A special school-"

"For Zeta."

"In the States."

She jumped on her soles, swayed, clenched and unclenched her fist and gripped her crucifix. She was so giddy and happy for no reason.

"No."They shouted, she deflated like a balloon. She tried again, showed them websites and flyers but they said again by seeing her age and mostly her condition. They were right. The school was not in Europe or even in Germany.

One odd day, her parents said yes. She was flabbergasted but on one condition. She takes her pills and updates regularly about her health and her condition. She nodded and hugged them tight and they promised to visit. Loan was conflicted but side-hugged her and fist bumped. Even though he finished high school long ago.

Her heart hammered and her chest, she danced around and left for the airport.

The black car rolled in as Zeta rested her head on the window. The car stopped inside the school's wrought-iron gates and rocky walls. She got up and removed her luggage even though she was feeling weak and exhausted which was normal in her case. She trudged through the manicured field to a tall mansion. She gasped in disbelief and awe as she looked at the vastness as she walked past marble stairs from the pavement. Flowers and forests were all around it. She brought her palm to the bronze knob; looked over her shoulder at the setting sun casting long shadows . Shadows dart around with its warm light on the marigolds and meadow. She breathed in heavily and opened the door.

Her adventure starts now.

The marigolds swayed in the breeze as they were bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.

Thank you for my followers for reading my first story on wattpad .This story envolved from a horrible short draft called 'The unexpected mate' which I wrote when I was twelve years old in March 2020 when I first joined during corona.It was a short filled with grammar errors, paragraphing and punctuation  but it got views to a well thought ,not-well written to a readable draft named 'The Secrets of Maine.'Thanks for all the support.

This is my 2nd draft but I'm working on my 3rd one which I dream to publish one day.

I'm now fourteen turning fifteen in the fall.
