Chapter 12:Bear With Me

The books plat on the desk as the Liberian scrunches her nose; I breathe heavily as I shifted my legs and eyed Noah. His trembling hands in his pockets as he whistles.

I stare at sack of books that arouse my curiosity.

"So..." I drawled.

I eyed the one of the book titles. 'How to spot ghosts for dummies. 'Are we alone in this world? 'Hell in different religions'.

I bit my tongue and tried not to laugh but in this case, it wasn't funny.

"We're not going talk about it." He snapped, grabbed the books, nodded then left. I grabbed mine.it was similar old wrinkle pages and old book smell. The school is quite old and has some odd history but it's good for a horror movie. A book called, 'The Spiritual World' I shivered as I ran my fingers through the old book and all its horrible secrets. And 'Greek Mythology: Uncensored. 'I bit my lip trying not to gauge my eyes out. Seeing monsters and ghosts but paranormal instead of supernatural is creepy.

He breathed heavily, spun on his heels than walked out the library but stated at the alcove of a painting then disappeared through the oak double doors into the hallway. It was a strange painting of a man in the 18th century holding a silver dagger and a permanent scowl on his face.

I swiped my library card and stared at the twin steps that meandering into a corridor. There was a braided carpet and on it was two cozy chairs and beanbags were students reading, studying and listening the music and at the long tables were Macs with students doing whatever on those screens with their headphones.

The only shared library with the middle schoolers and high schoolers.

"I want you guys to bear with me." I said pleading, holding the big book as I sat cross-legged on the soft blades of grass spills the books on the picnic blanket.

"Bear with you? "Sadie asks wide eyed, waving her arms crazily, I face palmed and shook my head. Her brown brow arched in confusion, shock and pure horror.

"Now, everyone thinks we're crazy?"

Nova sulks and rolls her eyes. As she adjusts her empty, backpack and relaxes her hands behind her head as the trees shadows dances on her face like sleeping beauty. She whistles and laughs mumbling to herself.

"I have nightmares of that ...that ...Thing. "Sadie scoffs, relaxing on a tree while crossing her arms.

I nodded and soothed her arms as she shrieked. We were sitting in the field while the sprinklers were on it was nice for a Saturday afternoon. Friday was when we left so this morning we came and everyone is exhausted.

But we have homework so we are sitting on the cloth as we are shielded by the sun by a very big birch tree as people are sitting on benches. Children scampering around, playing games and Frisbees a we all try to relax before entertainment at the evening.

Nova got up and picked some leaves from her hair as she snorted. "Guys, no this is cool. We go on some adventure and maybe learn about various spirts and demons. That sounds more paranormal but my gran is a witch so I'll ask her. "Nova said happily while stretching like a cat and rolling her shoulders.

"Wait. Seriously Nova you're just getting this .No, this makes no sense whatsoever. I prefer to read them and not to be drag onto death. "Sadie screamed, no bawling.

"Sorry Heather. We didn't know, ok?" Nova said as she shrugged. I nodded and leaned to them. "Hopefully, "I drawled, looking around for anyone or anything suspicious, "They aren't any more supernatural lurking around our realm. "I whispered as they exchange worried glances and nodded curly as we scrambled and chat about everything.

"Guys, I need to call in Noah. "I added, looking at them as they exchanged worried glances then gave a weak smile. I nodded ,sprang up to my feet and sprinted down into the field I was a few feet away before I went into the side-lines' looked around looking for a familiar face but then I caught bright red hair and a boy in a yellow jersey sitting in the bleachers.

"Noah. "I yelled, waving my arms crazily as he looked at e grinned then shook his head. His eyes pleading me to leave some guys giggled at me as my expression fell. I whirled then nodded, flashing thumbs up.

Shit. Today was the football-I mean soccer trails. I'm pretty sure he wants to join the schools team. Some guys glared at him, then snickered and pointed at me. I sighed then sat trying to encourage him.

"Why is she doing here? "A brown-haired guy said his voice laced with disgust. I rolled my eyes then rested my chin on my knee. The coach blew his whistle as they started the game.

They dribbled the ball on the cones and did penalties as they exchanged roles as goalkeepers and defenders it wasn't as good as the Fifa matches I've watched on Super sport but it was fun.

About an hour past, before I spotted and Noah came jogging covered and soaked in sweat. He breathed heavily and sank onto the grass as he stared into the sky.

"Heather? "He asked dumfounded. And craned his hand. I think he was the goalkeeper. Dressed in gloves, white shorts and a long sleeved jersey. He sat cross-legged as he picked the dirt and pieces of artificial grass from his socks.

"I think we've cracked the code. "I muttered happily, hunching and putting my palms on my knees.

"What is it? "He said eagerly, as he inhaled some air. I crossed my arms over my chest. "Um, I think it was a portal or something? Why else are they keen so on me leaving?"

He nodded, quickly as he painfully raised to his feet and winced. He snapped his fingers as his eyes went wide with mischief," Ley Lines?"

"Ley lines?"

"You don't know what Ley lines are?"

I shrugged as some boys emerged forward." Ley lines refer to straight alignments drawn between various historic structures and prominent landmarks. "He said proudly, as it was my turn to clear my throat.

He sighed heavily, hunched then groaned. "Think of it as invisible longitudes and latitudes that line together and we can't see them. It is thought that when all these lines alignment that weird things happen. Sometimes they also think either negative or positive energy. Maybe were we are the alignment that is why there might be supernaturals." He said as he leaned to me and whispered. I clamped my mouth and nodded.

"You're right? "I said as my eyes went wide. He smiled proudly at his request. "But what do I have to with this? "I asked as my face fell. He nodded as he slung his duffel bag on his shoulders and uncapped the bottle.

"Hey Noah. Who's the whore? "A jock yelled from a distance as some of his teammates laughed and some mind their business. Noah glared at them. He jogged to us and shook his brown curls like a dog as we recoiled.

"Eww, dude. Charles. "Noah muttered while wiping his face as he scrunched his face in disgust.

"Hey Crazy, "said Charles as he gulp his water and sprayed it on his face and shook again.

I groaned, "So what was all that nerd talk. "He muttered, rolling his blue eyes and gestured the yapping thing.

"No, it was history. "I muttered dryly.

"Weridos."

We rolled our eyes in harmony and laughed.

"How long till trails end. "I asked as I spun to him as his friend left. He looked at his invisible watch and tapped it. "It ends in about thirty minutes. Why?"

I glared at him as he laughed then whistled to himself.

"What drugs to you take? "A Latino boy snickered and cupped his mouth. "Cause your crazy. "He crossed his arms over his chest.

"Give me some I want to get high. "A baby faced boy with a lanky build giggled, roared, and prowled. I clenched my jaw and my hands in anger, adjusted my lens as Noah gestured to his buddy and laughed.

"C'mon Heather, let's go. "He muttered.

"What's your biggest culture shock? "I asked as I leaned on the wall as Noah adjusted his sweater and belt buckle.

"I'll start. The types of food over here."

He cleared his throat and tapped his chin in mock thinking.

"School shootings and the language change. "He said sourly. I patted his shoulder as we moved shoulder to shoulder into the music lab for group meetings as we climbed down the short stairs.

One thing, it was fun, educative and weird. The dates are counted and the school in full swing. The weirdest thing happened.

I stared at the window only to see poison green eyes flickering and burning like fireballs but I first thought it was colourful flashlights but it seemed to follow my gaze and seemed to glow harder as I recoiled, shut the window and screamed in a pillow.

Oh, look demons love me.
