Chapter 13 Finale: All That is Well Ends Well
Once again, Hogwarts was filled with complete and utter joy. The Dark Lord was finally dead. Harry was standing in the middle and being surrounded by everyone. He looked tired and weak, but had a successful and relieved smile on his face. I knew Harry well and that he would want some time to himself after this, so I didn't rush over to him. I would wait until everything has calmed down to go over and talk to him. Surely after that, he left immediately with Ron and Hermione.
The Order finished cheering and then went back to getting everything together. Not long after, the gleefulness died down as everyone began to realize the lives that were lost. The Order was collecting bodies. Cathal had me sit down to regain some energy by Madame Pomfrey, as he went to help I watched the bodies being dragged into the room. My heart ached. Colin Creevey was the first I saw and my heart broke. He snuck back in to help Harry, and had been killed. The Wealseys were standing over by Fred. Molly held a look of despair. George was lost. Ginny was devastated, but I didn't want to crowd her. I knew how it felt to lose someone you love, she would need time to think before I rushed over telling her everything would be okay.
According to Cathal, Snape had died as well. And I was wrong about him. Harry informed the Order that all along Snape had been on our side, but was pretending to get information from Voldemort. He killed Dumbledore due to Dumbledore's own wish. I hated myself for thinking the worst of him after he had been my favorite teacher all along. Snape died a true hero.
Seeing the fallen Death Eater's bodies made me wonder if they had any regrets. Maybe like Draco they were forced on that side. Bellatrix had died trying to kill my best friend. She attempted to kill Ginny, but Mrs. Weasley ultimately brought Bellatrix to her end. Nicolai's body was carried in. To think I was the one who did that made me sick, but then again I had to listen to Draco and feel no remorse. What if he was the one who killed Colin or one of the other students? He would have killed me and then continued killing others. Nicolai deserved what he got.
The next body to be carried over to the pile was Lorcan. I wasn't even going to refer to him as a father, because he wasn't. I would never consider him my father. Lorcan was a heartless monster who was probably the reason half these students were dead. Again, to think I killed my own father was a horrifying thought. I had to think of it as killing a monster, a soulless murderer who deserved his end. Looking away, that the was the last I would ever see of him. I only hoped my mother, who was likely watching over me, would understand. Even though she once loved him, even she began seeing the monster he had become.
Standing up, I physically felt better but mentally felt ill being in the room as the bodies. Walking out of the castle for fresh air, the Order was standing around. They were bringing the remaining Death Eaters to Azkaban. Then a familiar face caught my eye. "Wait, not him!" I yelled running over. Colm was secured and in the grip of Shacklebolt. "Please not him sir, this is my brother. He has been helping me all along, he's saved me from the Death Eaters more times than I can count. Please." Shacklebolt looked at me a little uncertain. I knew everyone wanted all the Death Eaters to be locked up, but Colm was dragged into it, just as Draco was. "He's my only family left."
After all the heartbreak and tension of the day, there was room for some mercy. Shacklebolt nodded and released Colm who looked at me thankfully. "You're free for now. We will have to call in a hearing though," Shacklebolt said and Colm nodded.
The two of us walked away. "Thanks for that..." Colm said. It was weird that we now somewhat got along. It was so different than it used to be.
"Of course," I responded.
"I should probably get out of here then, I'm assuming everyone else doesn't want me around." It was something Colm was going to have to live with. He would always be known as a Death Eater, but at least he was free for now. Maybe people would learn to trust him like I did. I nodded. "You're welcome to stay back at my place again," he said with a shrug. "Now that everything's safe." I nodded once more. I would go back to living with Colm. As much fun as it was living with the Weasley's, they were going through a difficult time and I didn't want to impose. Plus, I would hopefully be returning to Hogwarts next year.
"I'll see you then," I said as he turned. "Wait!" I called quickly coming up with a new thought. "They didn't take Draco did they?" I realized I hadn't seen the Malfoy's yet.
"No your boyfriend is fine," he smirked knowingly. "The Malfoy's were let free...due to good behavior or something," he added with an amused look. "They'll be around here somewhere." I nodded and took off to find Draco.
Looking around I couldn't find them anywhere. I knew the Great Hall had been cleared of all the bodies so I went back in there. Over in the corner, the Malfoy's sat speaking with Shacklebolt and a few ministry members. Draco caught my attention and slipped away from his parents. I hugged him when he got over. "I'm glad you're alright," I said. "I was afraid they well...took you to Azkaban..."
"You gave me a heart attack when you fell over," Draco said. "And yeah, all thanks to my mother."
"Why?" I asked confused. I followed him down one of the halls as we walked, not having to watch our backs for once.
"She was the one to check and see if Potter was dead, and she lied to the Dark Lord saying he was," Draco said.
"Brilliant..." I said amazed. Leaning in I kissed Draco. Finally, everything was the way it should be. The Dark Lord had been defeated. Death Eaters list their control in the ministry. The Wizarding World was once again free. Now how was I going to explain to my all of my friends that Draco was my boyfriend? I suppose that would be an adventure for another day.
19 Years Later
Looking up at the Hogwarts Express, I was here once again and missing the days when I was going off to school. Nineteen years have passed and all was still well. The Wizarding World was at peace. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and I all kept in touch as busy as we all were. Ginny and I remained best friends of course, seeing each other often and meeting up with Luna.
After the war, I ended up going back at school. I studied extremely hard over the summer and the professors, understanding my circumstances, allowed me to take all the final exams for sixth years classes and thankfully I passed them all. I continued on along with Luna. Ginny never went back as she got offered a contract with the Hollyhead Harpies.
Then there was Draco and I. I gave it a few days before telling Harry, Ron, and Hermione about it. Ginny already knew so at least she was there to back me up, to the best of her ability, despite how much she disliked him. At first they were extremely confused, but after explaining it to them a few times they seemed to get over it and just accept it. It wasn't like they would have to welcome him into our friend group, they kept their space but at least they were civil to one another.
I studied my absolute hardest and achieved my goal of becoming an Auror. Draco became a healer, which he was actually rather good at. He taught me a few healing spells while I was still at Hogwarts. We met over breaks. Becoming an Auror was the hardest thing I have ever done in my entire life. They were right when they said it took over your life. Draco and I 'broke up' a few times due to our inability to see each other, but ultimately after we both got into the routine of our jobs, we got back together.
Cathal and I worked together, and got along as great friends. He married a girl from the Ministry and they had three children who were all off to Hogwarts. Everyone seemed to be marrying around the same time. It took Draco and I a bit longer, but eventually we married as well. Our son was just about to begin Hogwarts along with Harry's son. Draco picked out the name Scorpius, I don't know where he came up with it but it grew on me so I agreed as well. Our next child was a girl who was only five at the moment. We named her Bronagh after my mother.
As Draco held her, I walked along side Scorpius. He didn't seem to nervous and already had a few friends. Plus, he had his older cousins to look after him. Colm married and had three boys who were all older. From what I've heard, all they do is cause trouble but they cared about protecting Scorpius. I was assuming he would be in Slytherin, considering how much he was like Draco. My guess is that Bronagh will be a Ravenclaw, but things can always change. "Are you nervous?" I asked him.
"Not at all," he said with a smile, but he did look a little nervous. Who wouldn't be a little anxious on their first day. Stopping at the train Draco said goodbye to Scorpius and then I hugged him next.
"Have a nice time, don't forget to write. I love you," I said and he flushed looking around. Before he could say anything, Colm was arriving dressed in black again with his three sons. One was a sixth year who was the spitting imagine of Colm when we were younger. He was already covered in tattoos and kids moved out of his way at the sight of him.
"Ready for Hogwarts?" Malachi said putting his arm around Scorpius."Don't worry Aunt Caoimhe, we'll take great care of him." Malachi always liked to joke with me about what he was going to teach Scorpius at Hogwarts. The other two boys came to the side. Damien was a fourth year and much quieter, but Scorpius has told me some of the pranks he has played. Then there was Desmond who was a second year. He was the most well-behaved, only following in his brother's footsteps when he had to.
"Couldn't be more ready," Scorpius said looking over at them.
"You can sit with us," Des said. "We'll introduce you to everyone." From there I knew that Scorpius would be just fine.
"Look over there it's Potter's son's," Damien pointed out to the other boys. I looked over to see that Harry, Ron, and Hermione were arriving with their children. After I got Scorpius on the train I would have to walk over and greet them.
"Be nice to them," I said to Scorpius in a warning tone. He knew I was friends with Harry, so he nodded. I'm sure the Slytherin/Gryffindor rivalry still existed, but I knew he would be kind.
"Goodbye," Scorpius said once again turning to us. Colm's children have already pushed their way onto the train.
"Behave," I said right when Draco said 'Have Fun'. We shared a look as Scorpius took off. There was a fine line between having fun and behaving. I shook my head and smiled, taking Bronagh from him.
Both of our children had the blonde hair and blue eyes. She wanted to get down from my hands, but I didn't want her running off. She was tired, unable to sleep last night knowing her brother was going away. "He's coming back?" she asked pointing to the train.
"Yes for Christmas," I answered her smiling.
"Well aren't you going to go say hello to Potter and Weasley?" Draco replied as we waited for the train to take off.
"Aren't you coming with me?" I asked with a smirk.
"No I'll just stay here with Bronagh and Colm," he said waiting for my response.
"You guys have been getting along so much better," I pointed out. "Don't you want to say hello?"
"Did you not see me nod at him? I thought that was rather civil of me," Draco answered amused.
"Okay, I'll just be a few minutes then," I said handing him Bronagh and quickly kissing him once more. As I passed the train, all of my old memories flushed back to me: having my mother bring me to the train for the first time, going to the train alone, sitting with Harry Potter, and stepping off the train at the end of my seventh year. This train was where my life changed, without meeting Harry I would never have had the opportunity to fight in Dumbledore' Army or make my incredible best friends. Who knows what else would have changed. For now, everything was perfect.
