Chapter Four: Already Criminals

A little over a month passed. Draco and I continued doing what we were doing. We got good at telling which houses were empty too. We stayed out of neighbourhoods where we would be recognized again. Eventually we managed to travel all the way to Galway until things in the Wizarding World started getting even more intense. I had a lot of free time, which lead to me making many potions for us just in case. The most important thing that Snape taught me was that potions could be just as powerful as spell. I spent a month working on a large draught of polyjuicy potion just in case. Draco and I have been listening to the radio and everything was falling apart.

Snape was Headmaster of Hogwarts. How did they let that happen? After he murdered the previous Headmaster. Two Death Eaters, according to Draco, were instated at Hogwarts as teachers. The poor students who were still there. I wondered how Luna, Ginny, Neville, and the rest of my friends back at school were doing. I can't imagine what it was like.

I found myself beginning to forgive Draco. We always got along good when it was just the two of us, and we haven't argued yet once. It was always around other people and situations that caused our fights back at Hogwarts. When it was simply the two of us, we actually got along. He has been a little over protective with us trying to hide from the Death Eaters, probably because he didn't want to get caught either. He knew they would kill me if they found me but he just was too afraid to say it.

The other night, the two of us were having dinner at a small pub and before we walked back to our current 'home'. He kissed me. It was a spur of the moment sort of thing. I kissed him back, missing the way we used to be. Ever since that night, he had become even more cautious of us having to watch our backs.  It was getting a bit much, but then again you never know who was watching these days. "Caoimhe,"  I heard someone call.

I jumped up from the couch and walked into the kitchen where Draco was sitting closely to the radio. "Yeah?" I asked leaning against the doorway.

"We have to keep moving," he said.

"We've been doing that," I pointed out with a smile taking a seat across from him. "Plus, we have a few more days here until the muggles come back." This was a very nice house, I wondered where we would go next.

"No I mean away, far away." He looked serious.

"We go farther away each time, do you want to go to Northern Ireland?" I asked him confused.

"No like completely away from Ireland, England, and Scotland," he said shaking his head. "They're taking over everything, mainly here. We have to just get away and go somewhere where we don't have to worry about running into anyone."

"The Ministry is far from here, so is Hogwarts," I added not understanding what he meant.

"Not far enough!" Draco replied quickly. "They could be in the area and we wouldn't even know. We have to keep moving."

"If we go too far, we won't be able to help if anything bad happens!"

"We're not here to help Caoimhe," Draco said in a serious face. "We're supposed to be running, not waiting to help them in battle."

"We'll look like cowards if we run and hide!"

"Then we'll be alive cowards," Draco responded. "We have to leave. We'll go south, really south." I couldn't believe he was saying this, run from this? Leave everyone behind? "I knew you were going to be mad, but we have to stay safe. We won't be much help if we die now will we?" I shrugged. "You're very wanted right now, if anyone recognized either of us we're in trouble. Let's just go, we can listen to the radio still but we won't have to worry about running into any Death Eaters, okay?"

I suppose he had a point, we were basically in Death Eater territory. It was likely we would be found eventually. This was the country I grew up in, it seemed rather obvious to look for me here. "Alright, what's the plan?" I asked.

Together we planned it out. My polyjuice potion had just completed, so he took the smallest amount he could and disguised himself as a muggle man. There was a wizard pub in the town, Draco went after midnight and stole the wand from a drunken wizard. I'm surprised I hadn't thought of that before. This way, he could use the stolen wand and his mother wouldn't be able to track his wand. By now, his parents knew he hadn't gone back to Hogwarts.

Now that Draco could use magic, we felt a whole lot safer and could do a whole lot more. Draco discovered that the pub had a floo network. After stealing the hairs of two muggle teenagers, we planned on going back. I knew of a small pub in France that connected with the Floo network. After taking the little amount of polyjuice potion, the two of us had an hour. We snuck into the back of the pub, glad to find that it was empty. When the bartender went in the back, we quickly used the Floo network to connect with the pub.

The minute we arrived in France, I felt a huge weight off my chest. We didn't have to worry about running into any Death Eaters here. Yet we did need to get out of this Wizarding neighbourhood as it was likely they had newspapers and radios and would recognize us when this charm wore off. We got into a cab, luckily the driver spoke English, and we asked him to take us to ' Versailles'. It was a part of France I remembered and loved. Once we got there, the price was extremely high. I looked at Draco who looked rather calm for once.

The two of us stepped out of the cab as the driver opened the door for us. I passed him, looking at Draco. How were we going to afford anything after this expensive ride? The driver looked like he wanted his money. Draco looked over both shoulders before pulling out his wand. I stepped back. "Obliviate," Draco muttered. The man's face changed into a blank expression and then he said something in French, looked around confused, and got back into his cab.

"Draco!" I muttered. "Why did you do that?"

"What?" he replied with a smirk. "I just saved us a lot of money. Plus, I've never been too good at memory charms so he only forgot the past two or three hours of his day." We just ripped off money from some poor driver. I felt bad, but if we did pay him we would be broke.

"Fine," I muttered. "Let's go find a house to stay at."

"How about a hotel," he answered and I gave him a dry look. "What?" he asked with another smirk. "Now that I have magic we can do anything we want."

"That's stealing," I pointed out.

"Not it's surviving," he replied now come on. There was really no point in arguing with Draco, so I followed him. We walked down the street getting to the busier part of town. It looked very pricey around here, but I assumed that's what Draco wanted. It couldn't be any later than two or three in the morning but the town was still very much awake. Draco turned to look at me with a wide smirk and then motioned over towards a fancy looking building. He began walking towards it and I followed him. We then entered into what looked to be a very expensive looking club.

Since no one was looking, Draco used a quick spell on the bouncers to let us pass without paying a fee. "Why are we here Draco?" I asked. He ignored me and walked in. There was a large crowd of people, blinking lights, and bright music. I followed close behind him and kept repeating the question. "What are we here Draco?" I asked for the thousandth time as we walked around the club. "I'm not in the mood for this."

"We're not here to party," he said and looked around. "Although we should come back tomorrow...Anyways, just keep following me." As we walked around, we got closer to the V.I.P. section where some very weathly look men were sitting. I looked at Draco, knowing what he was up too. "Oh come on, they won't even miss it. I'm assuming their all billionaires."

We sat down at a table nearby those men. Draco pulled out his wand. "Be careful," I whispered looking around. "Maybe this isn't a good idea..."

"No one's looking," he said looking around the room. "They're all way to drunk by now to even realize what's going on." Girls were falling in their heels and guys were stumbling up to the bar. "Perfect," Draco muttered. A man pulled out a wallet from his pocket and placed it on the bar as he was laughing over at the V.I.P. bar, his eyes were watery. "Accio wallet," Draco said. We weren't far away from the bar, so it happened in a flash. I looked around in fear to see if anyone noticed, but they didn't.

Draco snatched the wallet and caught my disapproving look. "Look, this isn't really that bad," he pointed out.

"We're taking stealing to a whole new level," I said shaking my head.

"We weren't much better before. Breaking and entering into several houses. Stealing their food. Using their supplies," he said. "Wearing their clothes." He eyed the very nice sweater I was wearing that I found in someone's house.

"I was just really cold..." I added trying to defend myself...even though I probably could have 'borrowed' a much cheaper sweater.

"We're already criminals," Draco added with a cool expression on his face. He opened up the wallet and pulled out a wad of cash. My eyes widened. "This will get us through the week," he said and then tossed the wallet over his shoulder. The poor guy at the bar was looking around, but didn't seem to know his wallet was even missing. Then again he was wearing a watch that had to be over ten thousand dollars.

"The week?" I added laughing. "More like a month, now let's leave." I said standing up.

"Not the way we'll be living," Draco replied again with a smirk and then taking my hand. "Now come on, let's go find a resort."

I fought with Draco on that one the entire way. Staying in a resort in the midst of a war? While Harry, Ron, and Hermione were probably struggling to find shelter with whatever they were doing. While the students at Hogwarts were suffering the wrath of Snape and the two new professors. I didn't agree with Draco, we couldn't be doing this. But he wouldn't give up his idea and lead us all the way to a resort. He kept saying how we would be safe because no one would 'expect' us to be here and that we might as well make the best of our journey of staying hidden. I think he was just trying to keep himself distracted.

Since he had control of the money and the magic, I had to follow him. "Don't you care about my say in all of this?" I pointed out annoyed as we walked down the street.

"Sort of, but trust me, you're going to thank me for this in the future when you reflect back on our fun vaction," he said with a very smug expression.

"This isn't a vacation!" I added. He ignored my comment as two men opened the glass doors of the resort. I hadn't even realized we had arrived there since I had been arguing with him the entire time. It was breathtaking when we got in. This definitely was nothing like the place mother and I had stayed when we visited France. Everything around me looked expensive from the floors to the ceiling. Everything about this place screamed perfection. It looked like a King could live here.

"Wow," I muttered without even realizing it. Draco gave me a 'I told you so' look.

Going straight to the check in desk, Draco did all the talking. At first they spoke French to us but realized we spoke English. The man working didn't seem to believe us at first, until Draco started his 'storytelling'. "Well sir," he began, "My father Lord William is on a business trip in Paris and suggested we stay here for the mean time...but if it's too last minute I suppose we could always find another resort." Draco shrugged and started turning. I held myself together but wanted to laugh, Lord William?

"W-wait," the man called. "We do have one room available. It's a king bed though. That won't be a problem will it?" Draco looked at me with an amused smirk as I gave him a 'you have got to be kidding me' look.

"Nope not at all," Draco added smiling at the man. "I'll be paying in cash if you don't mind." He took at the cash and I shook my head. What have I gotten myself into? Once we completely paid. We were lead up to our room.

"Complimentary glass of Chateau Margaux?" a man offered as we stepped off the lift, holding out two wine glasses. I recognized this wine, it was one of the most expensive wines to ever be sold. Draco nodded, thanking the man and taking the glass. I did the same, well at least this one was free.
