Chapter 4

Gos wasn't surprised when he saw where his sister kept the Chest.

Of course it would have its own table, with its own chairs and all. Of course the Chest of Knowledge would have its own, untouched side of the room all to itself.

The table itself was pretty small. A small, square shaped piece of wood with four legs. The table only had space for one thing, and that was the Chest of Knowledge. One of the chairs was a fluffy, furry, white throne. The other one was a non-sturdy wooden chair. Guess who was supposed to sit on which.

But the Chest was the main attraction. The white colored jewels turned into a rainbow wherever light reflected on it. Instead of the chest being jagged with crystals, it was smooth all around. Still, the different groves where the crystal was cut was visible. Right in the middle of the chest, where the top and the chest met, was a small hole. A hole which was only meant to be inserted in one thing...

"Here's the chest," Serca pointed to the obvious. She pulled out the fluffy white throne and sat on her extravagant chair.

The Knowledge Chest looked impressive, and he already got what he wanted with it. But... if I want to finish it, I'll need to know how it works and all.

"Can you open up the chest? Show me how it works and all," Gos said.

Serca bit her cheek, and her eyes seemed to be interested in the floor all of a sudden. "I would love to. Really! But the thing is... I don't know if King Rhon would let me show you the process. Not unless you don't have some private information no one's allowed to know. I don't think King Rhon would appreciate that. So, sorry Gos..."

Even though her voice filled with sympathy, Gos didn't feel it. He didn't see it. All of that was some sort of act. She wasn't really sorry about it. He'd been fooled by Serca once before. It wasn't going to happen to him again.

Mentally cursing himself, Gos's thoughts raced, trying to form an idea. He would not allow Serca to send him off like that. After looking for an opportunity like this to find the Chest of Knowledge, he couldn't back out yet. He couldn't leave just yet. Not when all the pieces were so close.

"Then... I- I do have a piece of private information. And I need you to hold it and all." Gos blurted. It was probably the only thing that could save his spot here. Whether that was the smartest move... he could reflect on that later.

It took time for Serca's tiny head to comprehend what he just said. But finally, a smile engraved her face. "You do? Why didn't you say so? Then by all means, take a seat! Let me help you contain it! After all, I'm-"

She stopped, realizing what she was about to say. She smiled sheepishly at Gos. "Sorry. I forgot about that. But like I was saying... pull up a chair."

His sister made it sound like he had a choice on where he could sit. She sounded like her room was a supply closet for chairs, and he could take his time picking any seat he'd like.

Without having any other options, Gos followed her words.

Reluctantly, he pulled up the wooden chair on the other side of the table. He placed himself on it. Immediately, he felt the unevenly chair legs, which were shorter than the other three legs. Under his weight, the chair squeaked. Ignoring the chair as best as he could, he focused his attention back on the Chosen One. The chair was bound to break sooner or later.

"Where's the privacy key?" Gos moved on, his eyes still watching the Chest of Knowledge. "You need it to open the chest."

"I know, silly. I got all the training and information I needed after I became.. You know what. It happened the week after the coronation." Serca smiled back.

"Well, then, why don't you bring it out if you know about it already?"

"Right!"

Gos looked up, since this next part was important. Serca's hands went up behind her neck. She fiddled with her fingers behind, when Gos noticed a thin line around her neck. No, not a line. A chain.

Of course he wouldn't have noticed. Serca was basically a princess of the Kingdom, even though she wasn't actual royalty. Why wouldn't she have a bunch of jewelry?

After fiddling with the chain some more, Serca took the necklace off, holding it by the chain. At first, he would've passed it for a random necklace. Then, he noticed the key dangling from the end of the chainNot just any key... the privacy key. The only thing in the world that could unlock the chest.

"Here's the key," Serca showed off. "Which belongs inside the keyhole, obviously."

Obviously, Gos rolled his eyes. His sister was a master at pointing out very conspicuous things. She was gifted when it came to spotting those things. It was her gift.

She dangled the key some more, like Gos was a cat who she wanted to entertain. Of course Serca was just wasting her time and being dumb. No one was that naive.

Of course, if it were up to Gos, he would've stolen it the minute he saw the key. He would've snatched it from the hand and ran away with it, claiming victory.

But that wasn't the point.

After displaying her key some more, his sister finally decided it was time to stop. Finally.

Now holding the key, Serca pushed it into the keyhole. With a nice click, click, click, she turned the key clockwise, before pushing the top of the chest off. Once the chest was opened, she took the key out and fiddled with it again, turning it back into her necklace.

While she was taking care of that, Gos took advantage of his maybe two minutes.

He peered into the Chest of Knowledge.

A/N:

Hi guys! I don't know about you, but if you feel like the beginning is slow and boring, I apologize for that. Originally, I hadn't planned for it to be this long.

But after this, the book gets more, I guess, interesting and exciting. Just one more chapter until all the fun stuff. *insert smug grin*

Anyways, how is the book so far? Any thoughts or comments? Any theories?

Well, have a good day/night!
