Chapter 17
Miraculously, the room immediately stopped.
All the chanting and trash-talking died down. Posters stopped bobbing up and down in the crowd. Fists stopped pumping up and returning back to their owners.
Probably all of this happened because King Rhon shouted. No one had ever seen him this angry, ever. Not even when someone accidentally put snakes in the castle. (Gos only knew that because the person who did that decided to store their private information in the Chest of Knowledge).
Speaking of the king, his face was back to being all calm and smile-y, as if him shouting at the entire crowd to be quiet never happened. He cleared his throat, "Now, can someone tell me what happened?"
One person spoke up from the crowd, and everyone turned to that person, gasping. It was as if speaking out of turn in front of the King was the worst thing they've done before. Amatures.
"Someone leaked all our private information!" The person cried.
Everyone shuffled and muttered in agreement. He could see a few people nodding as well.
"Is that all?" King Rhon asked. It was unclear whether it was aimed at the crowd or the person who spoke.
Someone else spoke out. It was a different voice this time. "No!"
Everyone gasped, again, like that was the worst thing a person could ever do. Like Gos had said, amateurs.
King Rhon's attention averted to the person. "Yes?" No response. "Go ahead, please, go on."
The same person who said "no" took a few minutes to answer. "Our privacy has been leaked, but all the information is also inaccurate!"
"And how so?"
"I don't want to share my private information!" the person cried in disgust. Everyone around gasped again, and not because the person spoke out of turn. Even King Rhon himself looked taken aback. Gos himself was surprised at that person as well. No one had ever defied or rudely talked to the king like that. Well, not outloud.
Either the person had a really big ego, was really angry, or just being plain dumb. Maybe they're all three, Gos mused.
"Well, then I'm afraid I cannot help us, the kingdom, resolve this conflict," King Rhon sounded miserable.
"Wait!" A girl cried from the crowd. The King looked up. There was nothing else said or heard from in the room.
People from the crowd started to shuffle. A few seconds later, a girl now stood in front of the crowd, after shoving her way through. A not-so-impressive looking girl, with plain black hair, tanned skin, and green eyes, was the person who had called from the crowd. That would've been odd, except the stranger thing was that she had a pair of owl-shaped glasses on top of her head.
"Okay, so let's say my s-" she quickly stopped to correct herself. For what mistake, Gos didn't know.
The black haired girl continued. "My private information was that 'I don't like to eat bubblegum'. So what they, sorry, what we mean is that when our private information was inaccurate, then it might've meant 'I hate and like to destroy bubblegum' or 'I don't like to eat candy'." She turned back to the crowd. "Is that accurate?"
Everyone silently and politely nodded. Gos noticed all the posters in the crowd coming down, probably because everyone was getting tired of holding it up.
"Oh," King Rhone stroked his chin, acting like he was the wisest person on the planet. "I see."
Meanwhile, Gos went one step up the staircase, trying to hide his presence. He knew exactly what happened, and was going to be coming, even before people explained it. It was all a part of the plan he had constructed.
Lysth had spread all the secrets, just like he asked it to. That was the final part of revenge, which it succeeded in. Maybe Lysth wasn't useless.
Except for the part about Lysth twisting up the truth. That wasn't supposed to happen. It was a part of Lysth's plan. When it first suggested extra detail to add to the plan, Gos was happy to include it. But now, seeing that it was going to happen soon, the enthusiasm had dropped down.
His attention shifted to Serca, who was standing there patiently like a good little girl. Boring! If he was in the whole situation, he would've been doing all the talking, along with blaming it all on other people.
Wait, scratch that. If he was there, in the whole situation, he would've been the one leading the protest and angry mob.
King Rhon looked up at the audience. "This is the utmost serious crime. Do you guys have any idea or suspect, someone who could've been behind such a horrible crime?"
Right when he finished the last syllable, the audience erupted.
"SERCA! SHE CAUSED THIS! SHE WAS THE ONE BEHIND THIS!" Those were all the different phrases he heard from the audience. Once again, it was a pot of noise, where he couldn't hear himself or understand what anyone was saying in the crowd.
King Rhon, who's eyes were widened, turned to his trusty Chosen One. Gos couldn't hear what the King was saying, but he guessed it was something along the lines of: "Serca, is this true?"
Serca moved her mouth, saying something to the King. Probably giving him a thousand reasons why she was innocent: "Your majesty, I didn't do this, I promise. I would never do something that horrible. I'm as shocked as you are in this situation. I don't know why people would blame it on me."
King Rhon's mouth stopped working, probably trying to comprehend what she said, along with the rest of the audience. Who turned quiet when Serca started to speak.
Serca kept on rambling. "Please you're majesty. You've trusted my family for years. Please, I'm asking the same from you. I'm asking you to trust me, this once."
With the crowd starting to shout and protest again, after she stopped talking. Posters went up, along with the noise levels and everyone's fists. Serca continued to talk to the King, even with all that noise, trying to convince her innocence.
Basically, the castle was pure chaos.
King Rhon looked like he was going to explode with all the commotion. The guards had to keep the crowd from over-running their Trust Keeper and king. They barely managed.
King Rhon held his hand up for silence, instead of shouting.
That gesture was so powerful, everyone turned silent. How they were able to see the King's hand with all the posters blocking the vision of the people in the back, Gos had no clue. Even his too perfect sister stopped in the middle of her persuasive essay.
"Citizens of the good Trust Kingdom, I am afraid it has come down to this. There is only one way to settle this without all of this chaos. You all, good citizens of the kingdom, leave me with no other choice." He glanced apologetically at Serca.
Everyone turned silent, posters and fists going down once more.
It's coming, Gos knew it. The moment everyone was waiting for. And here it is.
"Serca," he started. "You are hereby convicted of a trial."

A/N: I can't believe I'm finally here. We're getting closer and closer to the end of the book.
...I should probably stop saying/typing that. Don't want to give anyone false hope.
Also, I don't know if anyone caught that, but my OC version of me, Neuria Strix, appeared in the book. If you didn't, you can go look for me if you want (Hint: She has green eyes and black hair).
Well, let me know your thoughts about the chapter or the book in general, along with your predictions and stuff.
Have an amazing day/night!
