Chapter 16

Gos woke up to the sound of people.

Usually, he'd go back to sleep. It happened to him a lot. The castle was full of people, and some way or another, they would always wake him up with there. Some even worked night-shifts, which made it impossible to sleep at night as well. No, scratch that, it was impossible to sleep in the castle, no matter the time of day or night. The castle was huge, even gigantic, but there was no such thing as a "silent room" in the castle.

But this wasn't the usual noise of people working around. There was something different about today morning.

"I don't have the energy to deal with this first thing in the morning," he muttered to himself, and curled up in his blanket. He turned to the other side of his bed, trying to go back to sleep.

However, the world had different plans, where none of them allowed Gos to sleep in peace. The noise didn't stop. In fact, it got louder with each passing second. Trying to shut off the noise, he threw his blanket over his head and tried to cover his ears. That was about as effective as cleaning the bathroom floor with a slipper (don't ask).

Finally, he decided to check out the noise. He got off his bed, cleaned himself up, and went downstairs. Yes, he was still wearing his pajamas. No one would care, and if they did, that was their problem, not his.

When he was descending towards the third floor, the voices got clearer. In fact, he realized it wasn't just a few people he heard. It sounded like there was an entire audience. Or better yet, the entire kingdom.

If that wasn't enough noise for the crowd of people to get recognized for, they seemed to be chanting. Expect Gos couldn't make out the exact words, since everyone was screaming fifty different things at the same exact time. When he reached the edge of the second floor, near the staircase that led him to the ground floor, he was able to see bits of the people in the crowd here and there. The voices got louder, and he realized they were... protesting?

Protesting for what? Even Gos wondered.

Usually he wasn't involved in Kingdom drama and all, since he was the source of all the drama. But this, the entire kingdom joining together and storming the castle, this had got his interests.

On the stairs of entering the first floor, Gos stopped himself from reaching the bottom. He stood right in the middle of the staircase. That was the only safe spot he could stay without being run over.

The castle was flooded with people, literally. And by flooded, he meant everyone was stampeding into the castle in a huge crowd. By everyone, he meant the entire population of the Kingdom.

Every one of them were either shouting and adding to the noise in the crowd, holding huge posters that probably blocked the vision of the people behind them, or pumping their fists up in the air. Some did one or two, while others did all three.

The posters read: "stop the spread!" or "we deserve justice for broken promises!" There were a lot of other sayings or quotes too, but the saying that stuck out the most ot him was "remove Serca from being Trust Keeper"

Seeing that, Gos didn't know either to laugh or cry at what the poster was saying. Which then confused him. He'd always wanted Serca to be removed from being Trust Keeper. Why was he being so hesitant about that now?

Instead, he went for the least attention attracting expression. Gos kept his face still. He did not want to be noticed by an angry mob of people who wanted to kick his sister out of her (his) job.

Turning around to see where everyone was heading, Gos leaned over just a bit from the stairs. What he found was the King instead. King Rhon was standing outside, being guarded by a whole fleet of guards. He was in the middle of his bodyguards who all held spears standing up-right.

This was King Rhon, as in the person who never got out of his high-chair or power. The same person who would order Gos or someone else to do all the work while he was sitting in his Throne, doing something like playing cards with his "hardworking" guards.

His guards were managing the crowd. They had done their best to stop the crowd from attacking the King or running over him in their stampede. The crowd had stopped, but just barely. Everyone looked like they were pumped with adrenaline, ready to charge the moment the guards hesitated or let their guard down.

Meanwhile, the king held up his hands, like he was trying to stop something.

Are you trying to stop the crowd? Gos snorted. By what, asking them nicely to leave the castle?

Of course, no one heard him, as his voice died in the noise of an angry mob. It was probably better that way.

The King was projecting his voice. "Everyone, please calm down!" No one listened to him. Of course no one would. Gos wouldn't even hear himself think from all of the crowd's protesting. The crowd had their own agenda, and none of it included 'listening to the King'.

"And the King thinks the kingdom would listen to him when I can barely hear myself think," Gos muttered. "Now I've seen everything."

"We can discuss and solve whatever's happening. But would everyone calm down?" King Rhon tried again. No surprise there. He didn't seem to get the message that no one would listen to him right now.

"Please?" Serca asked the crowd. Obviously she was there. Was that a surprise? Why wouldn't she be? She was perfect Serca, always having to know what everyone was doing, just because she was a trust keeper or whatever.

But a miracle happened. When Serca spoke, everyone just got angrier. They shouted even more. Except this time, the voices and words were actually understandable and decoded from it's screaming-code message.

"Kick Serca out for revealing all our private information!"

"Serca is a liar! She broke her promise!"

"Boo! Serca! We demand justice for our Privacy being leaked!"

More of those sayings and related things were being shouted at Serca. Gos could imagine that if the audience had tomatoes in their hands, they would be throwing it towards Serca right about now.

That just confirmed Gos's wish. What the audience was saying, not his thought about tomatoes being thrown at his sister. His plan had worked! Revenge was made! Lysth had actually followed through with the plan. That was a first. Now everyone in the kingdom hated Serca!

Except, it wasn't that amusing to watch. He thought it would be fun to see how others felt, how they all felt betrayed, just like he did those 18 months ago. Honestly, he didn't know what to feel. Did he want the kingdom to go through all that pain and feelings of resentment he went through in the past year? Gos couldn't tell.

King Rhon's face was red with anger, it could have passed for a tomato. His head looked like it was about to blow up and burst, his ears so red with might've had steam coming out of it. It would probably be amusing to watch the king of the kingdom losing his cool.

Gos didn't feel bad about that. He was annoying to begin with.

Then King Rhon let everything go: "SILENCE!"
