You and the others were outside of Duke Everlue's mansion. Lucy was near the front gate while you, Natsu, and Happy were hiding behind a nearby tree.
"I'm here for the maid position! Is anyone home?!" Lucy called out.
"Don't screw up!" Natsu called to her.
"Good luck!" Happy added.
"Do your best!" You said. Your feet vibrated with tremors below ground. The stone pathway behind Lucy rose before breaking apart. A figure popped from the ground and into the air, soon landing in front of her.
"That's... a large woman..." You whispered.
"Is that even a woman?" Natsu asked, squinting his eyes at her. You smacked him on the head.
"Don't be fucking rude!"
"Applying for the maid position?" The maid asked.
"Yes!" Lucy replied.
"Master! We have an applicant for the maid position!" The woman yelled out. Not even a second later a smaller figure popped from the ground.
"Boyoyo!" He landed on the ground, twirling his mustache. "Did you call me?"
You grimaced.
"Oh god he's ugly," you said quietly.
"Let's see here," he said, looking over her.
"It's wonderful to meet you!" She said sweetly, smiling at him. He stared at her for a few seconds before turning.
"No thanks. Get lost, ugly."
'Ooh... that's gotta hurt like a buttcheek on a stick.' You thought, hissing quietly. The woman picked the now limp Lucy up.
"You heard him. Get out of here, ugly."
"What the hell is his problem?" Natsu whispered. You shrugged.
"Beats me... I've never even heard of him before this."
Soon enough, four other maids popped from the ground. All of them varying in... interesting appearances.
'I am trying so hard not to be mean.'
~
"You're useless, aren't you?" You said to a sulking Lucy.
"No! That Everlue guy's got a weird sense of beauty!" She defended, tears running down her face and an irk mark on her head.
"That's an excuse," Happy said. She cried even louder.
"This sucks..."
"Well," you said, rolling out your shoulders. "Time for Plan D." Natsu, seemingly caught onto you, smiled and banged his fist against his hand.
"Plan Destroy Everything?" He asked with a smirk.
"Urgh! That old man's gonna pay for this! Wait, what's Plan D?"
"D stands for Destroy everything," Happy replied.
"What kind of plan is that?!"
"A good one." You smiled.
~
You and Natsu got to the roof first. Lucy was being flown up by Happy. You placed your hand on the door and released a small amount of maigc. The glass cracked before shattering into little pieces.
"Man. We're supposed to storm the place, not sneak around!" Natsu whined.
"Calm down," you said, opening the door from the other side. "This all leads up to it. Be patient." He still grumbled. You four entered into the room where shelves and bookshelves sat. Along with other items.
"What is this? A storeroom?" Lucy asked, walking deeper into the room. You also looked around for anything interesting, but didn't find anything. You joined back up with the group to see Lucy half unconscious leaning against the wall and Happy with a skull on his head.
"Dude, really?" You asked, deadpanning at them.
"What? It's funny!" Natsu smiled. You sighed and shook your head.
"For god's sake..."
The four of you split for a few minutes to check some of the rooms, but didn't find anything. You all snuck out into the top floor hallway.
"Wait, we're gonna check every room?!" Natsu asked, sliding against the wall even though he would be in plain sight.
"Obviously," you said.
"Wouldn't it be quicker to catch someone and ask them where the book is?" He asked you.
"Aye!"
"Being spotted isn't always a good thing," you replied, "If we are, then by all means, go all out. Until then, stay hidden, like ninjas."
"... ninjas?"
'Oh no.'
Your gaze quickly went behind him when the floor exploded, revealing the five maids.
"Intruders detected!"
"They must be disposted of!" They all said.
"They found us!" Lucy exclaimed. You ran past Natsu and jumped into the air, easily punching the four smaller maids across the mansion.
"Flying Virgo Attack!"
You looked up and she landed on top of you with a bang.
"Y/n!"
With a loud effort grunt, you easily lifted her over your head and kicked her into the floor below. All without using your magic. You turned—
"We cannot allow ourselves to be discovered! Nin-Nin!"
"Nin-Nin!"
"... why do I hang out with you."
After searcing all of the rooms on the top floor, you went down to the bottom floor. Opening the doors across from the golden Everlue statue, a library is what greeted you.
"Oh! Many books, indeed!" Natsu exclaimed.
"Aye! Indeed!"
"Heh... who would've known at old geezer's book collection is this big," you said, smiling lightly.
"Let's get looking!" Natsu hopped around.
"Aye, sir!"
You looked on the bottom rows. Most of them were series collections or dirty books. You snuck peeks every now and then.
"Found a gold book!" Natsu exclaimed, holding out a book.
"Uppa!"
"'Uppa'!? Search seriously, will you!?" Lucy exclaimed.
"Lucy," you called, pointing at it, "Look closer, please."
"Daybreak!" She exclaimed.
"We found it!" Happy added.
"You serious?!" Natsu exclaimed.
"Two million, just like that!"
"Okay, let's burn it!"
"That was easy!"
"Hold on!" Lucy snatched the book from Natsu's hand. "This book was written by Kemu Zaleon!"
"Kemu?" Natsu repeated questioningly.
"He's a novelist who's also a wizard," you explained, "I'm guessing you're a fan of his work?" You looked at Lucy.
"A huge fan!" She hugged the book closer to her chest. "I thought I'd read all his stuff, but I guess this is an unpublished work!"
"Whatever, let's just burn it now!" Natsu said, flames appearing from his finger.
"Are you crazy?! This is a piece of culture! We can't burn it!" She clutched it protectively against her chest.
"You're abandoning your job," Happy said.
"I just said I'm a huge fan!"
You sighed and shook your head at their antics.
'Man... I'm going to regret joining this team.' The use of magic made your head tingle again. Ignoring them, you waited.
"Ah, I see!" A voice called out. Everlue popped out from the floor below.
"You lowlifes were after Daybreak, huh?! Boyoyo." He landed on the floor in front of you.
"See! You just had to dawdle!" Natsu scolded.
"Sorry."
"I wondered what you wizards were so eagerly looking for, but I never imagined it was that crummy book!" Everlue said. You narrowed your eyes at him.
"Crummy?" Natsu repeated.
"Oh, can I keep this book then?!" Lucy asked with a smile.
"No! What's mine is mine!"
"Cheapskate."
"Shut up, ugly."
"That's enough!" You slid into a fighting stance. "Either we burn the book or we fight. Choose one, Lucy!"
She kneeled down onto the floor.
"At least let me read it!"
"Right here?!"
"I've had enough!" Everlue exclaimed, "I'll teach you to mess with me and my books! Vanish Brothers!"
"I'd love to see you try, nose pubes!" You exclaimed back. The bookshelves to the side slid apart, revealing two people.
"Good afternoon," the shorter one said.
"These brats are Fairy Tail wizards? Mom would be shocked," the taller one said.
"That emblem! The Southern Wolves mercenary guild!" Happy said.
"So you hired these guys?" Natsu cracked his knuckles. You furrowed your brows.
"I don't care." You smirked. "Come on. Let's see what you got, Vanish Brothers."
Ja ne!
