Chapter 19
(Jack's P.O.V.)
I slam my locker door shut, sorting through my many many books. I still have a couple minutes to class, plus it doesn't matter if I'm late. The teachers here are used to it by now. I hear footsteps and I look up, looking back at my books once I see who it is.
"Hey." I say simply. Bob chuckles.
"Hey yourself." He says.
"Why didn't you show last night?" Ken asks. I sigh.
"I told you, my parents got home. Plus I was tired." I say, not wanting to go into it anymore.
"Whatever. What's up other then that though?" Wade asks. I shrug.
"Nothin'." I say simply. Bob sighs and I look up to see him shaking his head.
"You never tell us anything, do you?" He asks. I just shrug. I look back down at my books. Suddenly Wade hits my shoulder.
"Hey, look. It's Mark. Let's jump him again." He says. I look up to see Mark getting stuff out of his locker, and then do I notice... No one else is in the hall except for us five. The three start walking towards Mark but I put my arm in front of them, stopping them. Mark turns and notices us, goes wide eyed, and rushes out of the hall.
"Aw, he ran away." Ken says, putting his hands on his hips. I frown.
"I told you, back off of him." I say. Bob smirks a bit.
"Why?" He asks. I look at them, before turning back to my books, working on putting them in my bag.
"Because, we've picked on him and only him. We need to expand our victim pool otherwise people will eventually lose their fear of us. And we don't want that." I say. I planned for something like this. Ken shakes his head.
"Dude, no one is gonna ever stop being scared of us, and if not us then you. I mean, even we were terrified of you, I think we still are to some degree. You may not look like much, but you're fricken terrifying as hell." He argues. I shake my head.
"Doesn't matter. In a month we're having that stupid exchange student day, when all the new kids come in. We need to make sure we have this school in our grasp by then." I say.
"Jack, you're thinking way to much into this." Wade says. I shake my head but say nothing.
"Are you sure there isn't anything else going on? Anything else maybe we should know about?" Bob asks then and with that I snap my head up.
"Back off!" I yell and I turn, walking away. I want to be friends with them but I don't want to have to tell them everything, and they're always prying me to tell them everything. It drives me crazy, and it just makes me angry. Whatever. I should get to class.
(Bob's P.O.V.)
I sigh, shaking my head a bit.
"Dude, I am seriously getting worried about him. He's just getting angrier and angrier everyday." Ken says, looking at me. I nod.
"Yeah I know. But he won't tell us a single damn thing!" I say, annoyed. I just wish that he would tell us something! Instead we're stuck in the dark, not knowing anything. Which means we can't help.
"He's never told anyone a damn thing. I'm pretty sure that the only person that really knows him is his sister, and I don't even know how well she knows him, and they're in the same family!" Wade says. I nod.
"Yeah, we've seen her a couple times. It seems she's almost as oblivious to the real him as us." I say. Ken nods. The two turn to me.
"Tomorrow we're gonna confront him, right?" Wade asks. I nod.
"Yeah. I'm almost positive we aren't wrong, but in the rare case we are, you might want to bring something... Protective." I chuckle. Again, Jack may not look like much, but he's fricken scary. Ken and Wade both nod, agreeing. Then we look in the direction Jack walked away in again.
"He'll be okay, right? Even... Even if we're right and this goes the way we expect?" Ken asks softly. I sigh.
"I honestly don't know. I expect he will, but I'm really not sure." I say and with that it's silent in the hall.
