Six ➵ Day Together
It doesn't take long for Joshua and I's news to spread across the media worldwide. Within a few hours, we're allover Twitter, fans either congratulating us or hating on us. The next morning, I find myself buying a magazine with my own face spread across the cover, the title reading: 'Seventeen's Maknae is now an Uncle...and his Bandmate is the Father?'. I didn't expect anything less, to be honest.
Today my mum is looking after Joe so Joshua and I can spend some time together. He has something planned but is refusing to tell me, I'm not sure why. I finish changing into some comfortable clothes before making my way downstairs, seeing Joshua sat on the sofa in my living room with my mum sat beside him, Joe in her arms.
"I really love her, you know." Joshua says quietly and I freeze in my stance as my presence remains unnoticed.
"I know you do, Joshua. Just give her time, the past year has been really tough on her, you know that. I know she loves you, too." My mum smiles assuringly.
I finally cough so they know I'm here and walk into the room with a bright smile on my face. Pretending I didn't hear a thing, I lean down and say goodbye to my son before leaving with Joshua. My mum allowed us to use her car today, something which surprised me a lot, so Joshua drives us to wherever he has planned.
"Where are we going?" I ask for what feels like the hundredth time. Joshua laughs whilst shaking his head, remaining adamant that I won't find out until we've actually arrived. I groan and lean backwards in the carseat, frustrated.
After around twenty minutes of driving and listening and singing to our favourite songs, I finally begin to recognise the surroundings. A large smile grows on my face when I see the familiar sign of our local amusement park come into view. I used to come here a lot when I was younger. The last time I was at an amusement park, I was with the boys on the road trip and Joshua and I kissed for the first time.
"Are you up for coming here?" He asks, turning to face me. "We can do something else if you're still tired or not feeling well--"
I cut him off, "No, I'm fine. I love this place."
"That's good to hear." He grins and we climb out of the car.
Almost immediately, a girl attired in a Seventeen T-shirt walks passed us. She seems to stop in her tracks before turning around and staring at us both. I gulp, unsure how she'll react considering she's the first fan I've encountered since we announced our news. But when a soft yet excited smile grows on her face I know she's not as evil as the minority of their fan base.
"Joshua, Areum! I'm so happy to meet you. How is Joe?"
"He's doing great, thank you for asking," I smile appreciatively. I wish all of his fans were like this girl. "And it's nice to meet you, too."
"I won't keep you both any longer. Enjoy your day!"
We say our goodbyes to the extremely kind fan and make our way over to the ticket collection. I'm about to reach for my purse but Joshua stops me, insisting that he's paying. I thank him for being such a gentlemen.
"What do you want to go on first?" He asks me and I point towards a tall roller coaster nearby. Joshua gulps at the sight of it and turns to me. "Are you sure you want to go on that?"
"Yes, are you? Or are you too scared?" I tease and laugh.
"No, definitely not. Come on, then." He says defiantly and I giggle whilst following him.
Luckily the queue isn't too long so we're sat and buckled inside of a cart rather quickly. Joshua looks absolutely petrified. He grips onto the metal bar in front of him until his knuckles turn white and I can't help but laugh.
"You are scared, aren't you?" I ask.
He shakes his head defiantly. Then, the cart starts to move and his eyes clamp closed as it travels upwards on steep tracks. When we reach the top, the cart stops for a few moments and all I can hear is Joshua's heavy breathing before it falls, and everybody around us including Joshua and I scream. It travels at a pace that I can barely comprehend before starting to go slow again.
"That was not fun." Joshua mumbles with his eyes still tightly shut.
I laugh and hit his arm softly, "Yes it was."
We decide to stop for some food after that, probably not the best of ideas but we both skipped breakfast. Joshua buys me some cotton candy and a drink as he busy himself a burger. We sit on a picnic table beside a Ferris wheel and the sight brings back some great memories.
"Remember when we went on one of those together?" I ask and look up at the tall structure. He nods.
"I do, it was really fun."
"You almost kissed me," I laugh and take a bite of the cotton candy. "But you left me hanging."
He laughs, knowing that I'm only joking around with him. "I know, I'm sorry. If you want, we can recreate that scene but I won't leave you hanging this time."
"I'd like that," I tell him honestly with a shy smile on my face. "Oh, Joshua, you've got some um -- on your face." I giggle, looking at the tomato sauce covering his left cheek.
He frowns and raises his hand to wipe it off but completely misses. I lean forward and wipe it off with my own hand, the feeling of my hand against his warm skin feeling completely new but good at the same time. I sit back down when it's off and blush slightly.
"There, it's off."
After we finish our food, we wait in the small line for the Ferris wheel. Joshua looks at the height of it nervously but I hold his hand, squeezing is reassuringly.
"Did you develop a fear of heights when you were away?" I chuckle.
He shrugs and smiles lightly. "I think so."
We finally reach our turn and are guided into one of the small carts, if that's what they're called. The seats are so narrow that our legs are pressed against each other's rather tightly, it's a little weird at first but I relax into the position after a short while.
When the wheel rotates and we're up at the top, Joshua turns to me. He still looks really scared, he wasn't like this the last time. It's cute so I don't mind at all.
"Sorry for leaving you hanging," he laughs and leans forward, just like the last time. But instead of kissing my forehead, he connects our lips.
It feels so different because we haven't done this in almost a year, but it feels good. Just as I smile into the kiss, the Ferris wheel jerks and Joshua pulls away frightened. I laugh but don't complain. Instead, I lean onto his side and rest my head onto his shoulder.
Today really couldn't have been any better. Although there may be cracks in Joshua and I's relationship, it's certainly not broken.
