Chapter Two
Don't point any mistakes, por favor.:3
Recess finally came, allowing the kindergartens and first graders run free. Kirstie ran after Scott, giggling the entire time. Her short legs could barely keep up with Scott's long ones, or as she called them 'giraffe legs'.
"Scott, slow down! I'm short!"
"Never!"
The siblings laughed and finally stopped at a tree near the playground. The tree is their own little private place they claimed when they started kindergarten. Only their closet friends and themselves were allowed near the tree. If anyone broke that rule, they will be in big trouble.
"School's almost over, Scott! I can't wait to go home!"
Scott was about to reply when a sound stopped him. It sounded like someone was crying on the other side of the tree. He turned to his sister, widening his eyes a bit.
"Someone is by our tree, Kirstie."
She widened her eyes too, wondering why anybody would ever do that. It was strictly forbidden to do so! Scott crossed his arms while shaking his head, looking back at his sister.
"You know what we have to do."
Kirstie nodded as she followed her brother to the other side, knowing what they did to those who broke the rule. If was just a simple Indian burn, but Scott knew how to make those feel terrible. It hurt, but it got their point across.
"Get away from our tree, you..."
The little boy looked up, tears rolling down his cheeks. Scott widened his eyes a bit, brown meeting blue. The little boy stood up quickly, brushing off any dirt that got on his outfit.
"I'm sorry," he told the siblings, steeping away from the tree. Kirstie looked up at Scott, wondering why he was crying. "I'll leave right now. I didn't know that this was your spot."
Scott frowned, feeling his heart beat a bit faster. For some reason, he felt like he had to protect this little boy. He shook his head, holding the hand of the boy. The boy flinched, bringing his arm to his chest.
"Don't hurt me, please. I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry," Kirstie spoke up, frowning slightly. The slightly shorter boy looked up at her, biting his fingernails. "It's okay. You didn't know any better. What grade are you in?"
"Kindergarten," he answered shyly, looking at the ground. "What about you two?"
"First grade," Scott replied, titling his head a bit. The little boy made him happy even though they just met not too long ago. "What's your name?"
"Mitchell Grassi," Mitch replied, looking up from the ground. He smiled a bit, warming up to the siblings. "I want to your best friend."
Scott smiled as hugged his new friend. Kirstie watched the both of them exchange a hug, noticing how adorable they looked together. She giggled to herself, wanting the two of them to be together just like her daddies are.
"That's funny because I was just about to ask you same thing. Yes, I do want to be your friend."
~~~
"Hello, May," Avi whispered, smiling a bit. The teenager smiled shyly, nodding slowly. "How do you like your new home?"
"It's amazing. I never had a bed before. My 'mom' feeds me a lot, unlike my old one."
Avi nodded sadly, wanting nothing more than to beat up the sorry excuse that the teenager called her old mom. She was terribly neglected by the woman and didn't leave the toxic environment until last year when Avi saw her at the store. She was trying to get some food, but she had little money. He paid for her and in no time, he took her to his office in hopes to find a new home.
"That's good, May. Do you attend your therapy sessions?"
"Yep. I have so many friends now. Thank you so much for finding me a better home."
Avi nodded, smiling as he flipped through her files. They talked for another hour, May leaving afterwards. Avi sighed, happy that he was getting everything done, but something felt wrong. Very wrong.
What could it be?
He jumped when he received a text message, grabbing his phone immediately. He smiled when he realized that it was Kevin, his heart warming up and his worries going away as he read the text message.
//First day of school went fine. The kids have a new friend that I think you might want to see. Little guy is a cutie. I love you, babe.\\
Avi smiled as he texted back, gathering his stuff to bring home. Being a psychologist was hard, but he enjoyed it. Working with children was down thing he always wanted to do and how he is doing it. He was elated from the start and always woke up ready for his job.
I love my job.
~~~
"This is our house," Kirstie told Mitch excitedly, pulling him around the house. He became overwhelmed, wanting to be let go. "You'll like it! Do you have a nice home?"
"I think so?"
Scott rolled his eyes, wanting to hold hands with his new friend. Kirstie was sweet but super outgoing. She was one to get overly excited and it scared people, especially her parents. Scott took Mitch away from her slowly, not wanting him to be scared.
"Scott, I wasn't done with him yet! Gimme him!"
"No," Scott replied, letting go of Mitch's hand when he began to tense. "You're scaring him!"
"No fighting," Kevin scolded, shaking his head. Scott and Kirstie stopped, listening to their dad immediately. "I have had enough of that already. Be nice to Mitch."
"We will," Scott promised, hugging Mitch from the side, the height difference quite hysterical. "Mitchy is nice so we'll be nice too."
"I like that," Kevin commented, smiling at his oldest child. He looked over at Mitch, wondering if he would say anything about his parents. "How are your mommy and daddy?"
"They're fine and healthy. Well, that's what my grandma said. She told me everyone is fine and healthy when they are in Heaven."
Kevin widened his eyes a bit, wondering when Mike and Nel passed away. How did they pass away and how is their son back in California when they moved to Texas? Does he live with his grandma?
"Honey, I'm home!"
"Dad!"
Scott and Kirstie hugged Avi, giggling the entire time. The bearded man laughed, looking up at Kevin lovingly. They shared a smile until Avi looked at Mitch, tilting his head a bit.
"What's your name?"
"Mitch Grassi."
Avi widened his eyes a bit, looking over at Kevin. The other man mouthed that he will tell him later. Avi nodded and walked over to Kevin, kissing him lovingly. They laughed a bit when their kids said 'ew', separating from each other when they heard Mitch's shy voice say:
"Boys could kiss boys?"
