Chapter 40
"So much blood..." Gidget mumbled, her teeth clamped down on a squirrel she had caught by chance. Wrinkling her nose at the stench, she arrived at a small clearing. Checking to see that the coast was clear, the Pomeranian placed down the dead squirrel on the grass. Quickly, she whirled around and hid in the bushes nearby. Sitting down, Gidget got ready for a long wait.
Seven Hours Later...
Blinking her eyes sleepily, Gidget was slowly beginning to nod off. Snoring softly, she suddenly jolted awake. "Gidget, now is not the time to take a nap!" she scolded herself. Looking up, she saw a weasel making its way towards the dead squirrel. Growling, she rushed out and chased it off. Panting, she headed back to her hiding spot. Tail drooping, she whimpered, "Come on Tiberius, you have to be here somewhere..."
An Hour and a Half Later...
Glancing up at the sky, Gidget's heart plummeted when she saw how late it was. Though she hated to admit it, the Pomeranian had lost hope a while back. Sighing sadly, she quietly got to her paws, ready to head home. Turning her back to the squirrel, she was about to leave when she heard a twig snap. Looking over her shoulder, Gidget gasped softly.
Exhausted, starving and clearly limping, Tiberius had finally showed up. Head hanging low, the old hawk looked like he wasn't going to be able to walk another step. Upon seeing the squirrel though, his bloodshot eyes lit up. He quietly made his way over to it. Gidget's spirits soared as her friend grabbed the carcass.
That's when the fox jumped out...
