Chapter 31
"Come on, where are you?" Gidget muttered to herself as she gazed up at the trees surrounding her on all sides. She and Norman were somewhere in the northern part of Central Park near the small pond where she had seen Tiberius last. Having been searching over thirty minutes now, the Pomeranian was pretty much losing hope. Sighing softly, she sat down.
"Do you think we'll find him?" Norman's voice spoke up behind Gidget's back, startling her. She had almost forgotten that the young guinea pig was with her. Glancing over her shoulder, guilt clenched Gidget's heart when she saw the sad look on his face. Lowering her head, she mumbled, "I honestly don't know. As far as I can tell you Norman, I think I'm the last person Tiberius wants to see." She closed her eyes, trying to drown the world out.
Placing a paw on Gidget's shoulder, Norman whispered, "Tiberius doesn't usually hold a grudge for very long, especially with you and me. You'll see." Opening her sky blue eyes and looking down at the guinea pig beside her, Gidget mumbled, "No offense but... I'm pretty sure he hates me by now." The white Pomeranian got to her paws with a sigh. She began walking off, her tail drooping. Norman followed her as they came up to a slight incline.
Reaching the top, Gidget peered down to see a lone squirrel. At the same time, a twig snapped in half under her paw, making a loud crunch. Hearing it, the squirrel ran for cover. But it wasn't the only one in the area as a familiar hawk dashed out from the nearby bushes in an attempt to catch the squirrel. But it was already too late as the rodent scampered up a maple tree.
Eyes widening, Gidget and Norman exclaimed at the same time, "Tiberius!"
