Chapter 8
[WARNING: This story is being completely revamped, so this chapter will make absolutely zero sense and will look hideous. You have been warned- read at your own risk.]
"Morning, Love." Hurricane said as the sunlight poured through the windows.
"Morning." I said, yawning hugely. "Ready to rule our kingdom?"
"Ready as i'll ever be."
We stepped outside to see the hoard of dragons below us, waiting patiently for answers to their questions.
"I know you all want answers to your queries immediately, but please, be patient! My king, myself, and my advisors are working as hard as we can to do so." My voice boomed.
Color tipped her head curiously. "Advisors?" She seemed to say.
I nodded and indicated at the dragons below, pointing out how few there were compared to yesterday, showing how she had helped me.
She spoke up. "Will all of you please form a line? No skipping, no arguing, and no yelling!"
If only I could use a little magic to speed this along. It's really boring. I thought after an hour of answering the same question twenty times.
"I know what you're thinking." Blizzard whispered warningly. "Don't do it."
"I'm FINE. I've only killed, what, thirty-four dragons? I bet Blaze has killed more than that." I whispered back.
"Blaze hasn't killed anyone, meaning she's a better dragon than you."
"HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT! SAYING THAT FEATHER-FILLED NICINPOP IS BETTER THAN ME?" I roared, earning some strange looks from the dragons in line.
"You didn't seriously say that, did you?" Hurricane asked Blizzard.
"Mayyyybeee..."
Hurricane put his face in his talons. "Why?"
"Ok, we better get moving, we still have a lot of dragons we need to deal with." Color said.
I glared at Blizzard. "Only if he apologizes."
"Never." He glared back at me.
"Then how about you taste real animus magic, huh?"
"You're on." And a pure white wicked-sharp serrated blade appeared in his claws.
I summoned a black spear.
"Your powers!" Hurricane whispered through clenched teeth. "What were you two thinking?"
I turned to see Color backing into the wall, her eyes wide. "This isn't good. This is really, really bad. Please tell me there isn't another prophecy about animus dragons."
I looked at Blizzard, then at the weapons in our claws. What were we thinking? We would never have risked the reveal of our powers. And come to think of it... why did Hurricane say he loved me before we had all our adventures? Someone must have been in control of us. I was pretty sure Insanity wasn't an animus, and that she wouldn't have died so easily. Also, what did Color know about animus prophecies that we didn't? All these questions rocketed through my brain at lightning speed.
"I should've known my daughter's brain would hurt." Moon said as she touched down on the deck.
"Why are you here?" I spat. It might have come out a bit harsher than I wanted it to. "And why are you poking around in my brain?"
"I'm not poking. It happens naturally. You should know this, if you really are a mind reader." She said, sounding a bit sour.
Don't question your queen. I thought to her.
I am your mother. I'm sure that I am allowed some authority. She thought back.
Not enough to say I'm not a mind reader. And, by the way, here is your proof.
"Ok!" Blizzard said, stepping between us. "Enough internal arguing, thank you! Let's get a move on, there's only fifty more dragons in the line. If you're here to help. If not, leave." He looked at Moon.
"I am here to help." She said, and without looking at me, proceeded to tell the next seething dragon that I didn't kill his queen.

"Finally." I gasped two hours later. "We're done."
"Yup!" Hurricane kissed my cheek. "And the day's not over yet."
"What did you plan?"
Excuse me, but are you forgetting someone? DarkStalker thought.
Oops. Just hide for a bit longer, then I'll talk to you, ok? I thought back. I'm having a moment.
Grumbling about something I couldn't distinguish, he receded into the background.
"You'll see!" He sang.
"Ok..." I said warily.
"Follow me!"
"But you don't even know the rainforest! How do you even know where you're going?" I yelled.
"You're forgetting something," He turned around and grinned. "I'm magic."
We flew for what seemed like hours until we finally reached a clearing. There was a large, crystal-clear lake with shimmering rainbow fish swimming around just below the surface.
"What is this place? I've never seen it in my life." I asked him.
"You haven't seen it because I just made it. This is our new home, the Dream Lake."
I stared at it. I had seen plenty of magic, and I was still amazed by its powers.
"New home?" I questioned. "But where are we supposed to live? I don't see a hut..."
"You'll see." He said. "Come under the water with me!"
"I'M NOT A SEAWI-" He grabbed my forearm and pulled me in.
I gasped. The walls were made of glass, so you could see all the creatures living in the lake; the rainbow fish, irridecent purple octopi, and a whole bunch more that I couldn't name. There was a huge double bed made out of soft leaves in the middle, backed up against the far wall, and a large, glassy turquoise chandelier hung from the high ceiling. And the ceiling. It was decorated with murals of our adventures; our first kiss, meeting Luna and Swallowtail, the three of us hugging under the rain... it was beautiful. "Hurricane, this is amazing!"
He laughed and hugged me. "I knew you would love it."
"But your soul! You're always talking about how we should only use our magic when it's absolutely necessary." I said.
"All taken care of." He held up his left foreleg. There was a thin silver bracelet circling around it, studded with diamonds. "Luna made it for me. She's a really talented artist."
"I see." I tried to keep the twinge of jealousy out of my voice.
"Oh, come on," He said, poking me with his tail. "I wouldn't trade you for the world."
I changed the subject. "So... what are we going to do about school?"
"I don't know. But I think we need to stay here for now, because of the whole You're-A-Queen thing." He walked over to the bed and flopped down on the middle of it, showing off his new rippling muscles.
I had only just noticed them. "What in the moons did you do to your chest?"
"Oh..." He looked self-conscious now. He blushed and looked away. "That."
I poked him. "C'mon, just tell me why you did it."
"I just..."
"Just what?" I inched closer to him.
"I don't know what came over me. I just felt like I had to impress you or something so you wouldn't listen to the nightwings and get rid of me."
I sat down next to him. "Seriously? That's what you're worried about?" It was so ridiculous I had to laugh.
"Hey, it wasn't completely irrational!"
"Yes. It. Was." With each word I flicked him with my claws. "You are, by far, the most irrational dragon I have ever met."
He stuck his tongue out at me. "Shush. I give you a nice house and this is how you repay me?" He pretended to look scolding. He failed.
"Yup!" I smile brightly. "Anyways, what time is it?"
"Hmmm, let's see..." He said, picking up a smooth white pebble. "Enchant this rock to show exactly what time it is whenever I ask it to!"
We both looked at the stone. It vibrated a little bit, then on the side that was facing up were bold black numbers: 8:15.
I jumped. "We've been away too long. We need to tell them we're fine." I said.
"All right. But do you want to come back here once we have? I mean, it is supposed to be our new house..." He said nervously.
"Of course." I said, resting my claw on his shoulder.
He told me how to get out. He said I just had to close my eyes and think really hard about being back at the surface and i'd be there. So I did. And sure enough, when I opened my eyes, I saw the big trees of the rainforest and a little glimmer of moonlight from above.
I swung from branch to branch, Hurricane following me as I did so. I checked in with Swallowtail and Luna, who were at the Healer's Hut introducing themselves to the startled rainwings. After that, we went back to the pavilion to see Color, Blizzard, and Moon. Moon didn't look at me, she just nodded and left. Blizzard and Color chewed us out for being gone so long. Blizzard crashed in my old hut. After all that, Hurricane and I headed back to the Lake.
As soon as I was on the bed, I fell asleep. It was dreamless, for a while, but then the nightmares came.
"DarkStalker, Honey, we have a dragonet!" A female voice said.
"Cool..." A voice I recognize as my father's said.
"Aren't you excited?" The female asked. The background was dark, but I could still barely make out giant star-speckled wings.
"Yes, Sunstone, I am. I just... need to go."
"What? But what about the egg? I can't raise it on my own!" She sounded despaired.
"Yes, you can." His voice sounded harsh. "You don't need me. I have more important things to do."
"Like what?" She sounded angry. "Are you married? Do you have a family? Because, if you don't realize, you left them for me! I'm far more important than some sniveling ugly haggish dragoness and a fat, pockmarked, stupid dragonet."
The background suddenly became clear. I could see a beautiful-looking sandwing flapping her wings in rage as she yelled at DarkStalker, who I could only see part of as he was so big.
"Enough." He said, pushing her aside. "I was just here because you wanted me to. You don't love me. You only love my power."
Sunstone screamed in outrage. "COME BACK HERE YOU DISGUSTING MAGGOT!"
But DarkStalker had already left.
I woke up in a pool of sweat, panting. Hurricane was still asleep. I shot a small burst of flame into one of the gilded braziers.
I held my snout close to the fire. The house felt cold at night.
I thought about the dream. What was it about? It was obviously one of my visions of the past, but... DarkStalker had another child? Do I have a sibling? I never thought about siblings. But, then again, I thought Glory and DeathBringer were my parents. They would've told me if I had a sibling. And... was it a girl or a boy? I would prefer a girl... also, this vision might not have been real. For all I know, Insanity is still alive and she's trying to trick me into leaving my friends to go look for my long-lost sibling. But then she would have to be an animus... or maybe she would just force someone like StoneMover to do it for her. My train of thought was interrupted by a loud crash. I screamed.
"Sorry!" A muffled voice said. "I fell out of the bed..."
Oh. Hurricane. Not something scarier.
"Is'ok." I mumbled.
"Hey... why are you out of bed with your nose about to be lit on fire?"
"Oh, that. I just had a nightmare." I said. Even to myself I sounded like I was lying.
"Uh huh." He looked unconvinced.
"Don't worry about me. Go back to sleep and we'll talk in the morning." I held out my talon and helped him up.
"Ok..." He curled up in the leaves and closed his eyes. I snuffed out the flames and laid down next to him. After an hour of restless tossing and turning, I finally fell into a deep slumber.
I woke up before Hurricane.
I didn't have anything to do, so I contacted DarkStalker.
Heyyy... I thought.
He was there in an instant. What were you doing?
Having a moment. Now shut up about it, or I'm sending you back into that dragonet.
Dragonets. DarkStalker sighed. Always SOOO independent. But if you need me, remember i'm going to be laughing in your face.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shush already, will you? I brought you back. Be nice.
I'm blowing a raspberry right now.
You know I don't care, right?
Yes.
Good. Now, please leave me alone until i'm ready to talk.
So, contact you in two thousand years?
I hate you. I'll tell you when i'm ready, ok?
Ok, fine. Love you, Dreamy. That was the first time I actually liked my nickname.
Ugh I'm so goddamn stuck someone help
