Chapter 6
[WARNING: This story is being completely revamped, so this chapter will make absolutely zero sense and will look hideous. You have been warned- read at your own risk.]
"It's not that easy to kill me." The soldier rasped. "I am Insanity, the mistress of escaping death. And I never, ever, forget who they were."
"How did you know it was me!" I was shrinking against the wall now.
"Oh, it's quite obvious you wanted to save your mother. I figured out you had animus magic after a while."
"And how did you survive? I don't think you're an animus."
"That is not your business." She started slithering toward me.
"Don't touch her!" Hurricane yelled, jumping in between us.
"Oh? You have a little friend. How cute." She sliced her claws across his neck.
"NO!" I screamed, running to him. "No, don't do this to me! Live! LIVE!" I cradled his head in my lap. "Make this necklace able to heal whatever it touches instantly, but only if I want it to."
He had his library pouch necklace around his neck, and I had to act quickly.
"No... more... spells..." He coughed.
"I don't care! You need to live!"
He was asleep now.
"You think you can kill me. You think you can save your soul. Sorry, but you're a dragonet. You are nothing." Insanity said.
Nothing. Useless. Garbage. Evil. DarkStalker's child. Weak.
I didn't answer.
"I'll be going now. Goodbye, useless dragonets." Insanity left in a poof of white smoke.
"WHAT JUST HAPPENED!" Blizzard roared.
I put my head in my claws, thinking. Did Hurricane even survive? Did I not react in time? Who is Insanity going to try to kill next?
"Strange dragon popped out of nowhere, tried to kill me, and popped back out. Simple." Hurricane said.
"You're alive!" I cried out, hugging him.
"Ribs."He croaked.
"Sorry. I'm just happy you're alive."
"Thanks, I guess."
"Where do you think she went?" Blizzard asked.
"Who went?" Hurricane said, looking around the room. "Insanity LEFT?"
"Yeah, but that's good, isn't it? It mean she can't hurt us." I said, confused.
"No! It's super bad! It means she's going to kill your parents!"
"Then we have to go!" I yelled, already shoving my things back into my pouch.
"Wait!" Swallowtail called. "We want to come with you."
"Why? It's dangerous." I said.
"We haven't had anything exciting to do in a long time. We're bored."
"Seems like you read my mind." Luna said, bumping Swallowtail with her hip.
"Fine, you two can come. But we need to leave now." I said. "Come on, Hurricane!"
"Slow down. How are we going to get there?"
"Animus magic! It's the only way! If we don't use it, we won't know where we're going. Also, even if we did know where we were going, it would take weeks and we would be too late." I said.
"Then i'm enchanting it." Blizzard said. "I've only used it once, and it was a tiny spell."
"Ok. Just choose something random and say, 'make this blank able to warp the dragons Swallowtail, Luna, Hurricane, DreamCatcher, and Blizzard to wherever Insanity the dragon might be." I said.
"Got it." And he repeated what I said, (But using a shell) and we were sucked into a swirling vortex of color.
We were back in the rainforest, at the old council pavilion. Insanity was there, and so were my parents.
"Get away from them!" I yelled.
Insanity turned to look at me. "Go away, child. There's nothing you can do now."
She flicked her wrists, which had ninja stars concealed in them.
"No!" I screamed, running as fast as I could to them.
"See? You cannot stop me. I have killed your parents, and your friends will be next."
"Don't die! Please, please, please don't die." I sobbed. "I can heal you! I have animus powers!"
"How much have you used them?" Dad asked, completely unsurprised. "Tell the truth."
"Well..."
"She's used them way too much, your majesty." Hurricane said. "Her soul is almost gone."
"Then don't let her use it." He was coughing up blood.
"Dreamcatcher." Mom gestured to me. "Come here."
"What is it?"
"Y- you're not my real daughter. Not biologically."
"Wha- what?" I said in disbelief. "Who is my mother, then?"
"MoonWatcher." Something happened, nobody knows what, and she ended up with DarkStalker's egg."
"But what about my rainwing scales?"
"DarkStalker enchanted them to be that way until you knew who you really were. Look at your wings now, they're gone." She said a bit sadly.
I did. They were gone. "But then who's going to rule the tribes now?"
"You are. Nobody else is suitable, and I raised you for most of your life."
"Most?"
"DarkStalker said he took care of you for two months."
"He did? Is that why i'm evil?"
"You're not evil, you're just... different."
"We love you DreamCatcher, don't ever forget that." Dad said, taking my front talons.
Mom held onto them too, and slowly, both of them closed their eyes, dead.
The sun had set now, and the crickets were chirping.
"No..." I said, crying.
"It'll be ok." Hurricane said. He was crying too.
"No, it won't! My real dad is an evil monster, and the parents I grew up with are dead."
"You still have me, you know that?"
"I'm going hunting." I declared.
"In the dark?"
"I always hunt in the dark."
"Ok. Go clear your head."
I left to gather some fruit. Nothing happened, just remembering my parents.
I flew back, feeling a tiny bit better.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey. I have something for you."
"What did you do?"
"Nothing... just listen."
"Ok." I sat down.
"I know a girl
Who likes to hunt at midnight.
'Cause daylight,
No, she ain't got time for that." He sang.
I smiled. I came up with another verse.
"I know a boy
Who likes to face the danger.
Always running 'round with nobody to love
Yet he's starting to open up to me.
We sang the chorus together.
"But still we laugh, we cry
We fall, we climb high
Just like we were kids, just like we were kids
And when I'm feeling small you get me through it all
Just like we were kids, just like we were kids again"
He started his own verse.
I know a girl
"Who's never tried to settle down
She wears loveliness just like a crown
And when she smiles, all the kings will bow down, down, down"
I started mine.
And I know a boy
"Who's kept every vow he's made
Who's spoken every ocean's phrase
But he can listen like a rainy day
And never drown it out"
"But still we laugh, we cry
We fall, we climb high
Just like we were kids, just like we were kids
And when I'm feeling small you get me through it all
Just like we were kids, just like we were kids again"
We sang the bridge.
"Just like we were kids
Just like we were kids
Just like we were kids again"
Finally, we finished with the last chorus.
"And still we laugh, we cry
We fall, we climb high
Just like we were kids, Just like we were kids
And when I'm feeling small you get me through it all
Just like we were kids, Just like we were kids
But still we laugh, we cry
We fall, we climb high
Just like we were kids, just like we were kids
And when I'm feeling small you get me through it all
Just like we were kids, just like we were kids again."
"Thank you, Hurricane. I needed that." I said, hugging him.
"You're welcome. Also, how did you know the song? I just came up with it."
"I don't know, And I don't care. I just want to stay with you."
"Wish granted, my queen." He held out his talon with a necklace in it. It had a silver moonstone pendant hanging like a real moon.
I gasped quietly. "You'd marry a murderer?"
"You're barely a murderer. And you only did it because you were saving your mother. Plus, I love you. Do you love me back?"
"Yes!"
"Perfect." He grinned.
The real song is called Kids Again, and it's by Artist vs. Poet. I advise you to check it out.
