Roman's Perspective
Today was finally here. The dreaded day. The day that would change everything.
The day of Logan and Virgil's wedding.
Now, I know what you're thinking. 'Weddings are supposed to be happy and beautiful and romantic,' ya' know?
I usually think that, but this time it's....different for me. Why, you may be asking yourself?
I've always had a...thing for Virgil Sangria.
Look, I know it's stereotypical. The gay guy falling for his best friend who's also just so happens to be gay. And said gay guy is supposed to confess to the also gay best friend, right?
Well here I am now. Standing outside in the grass at a wedding. Watching my best friend get married to a man who sees me as irritating and as an absolute idiot.
Soon it comes to the time for the vows, and I wanted...I wanted to object. I wanted to say it, maybe even scream it out at him.
But I never did.
Something inside me told me to just keep my mouth shut. So I did that, looking at the ground as the ceremony finished up.
I couldn't bare to see the two about to-ugh. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit. That should have been me, I think, my mind soon filling with thoughts.
I should be happy for him. I really should. Virgil's my best friend! He did make me his best man, after all. So why am I feeling like this? Shouldn't I be happy...or should I not...
I snap out of my thoughts, and put on a fake enough smile. Luckily no one can tell...right? Anyways, I followed everyone else inside, and took a seat next to my friend, Patton. I would have sat with Virgil or Logan but....you know.
After everyone was settled and the....happy couple thanked everyone for coming. Everyone decided to talk to each other, others walking up to the...couple and congratulating them again, while others were just trying to drink as much as possible for whatever reason.
After minutes of waiting, I decided to give the two a toast. Well, more Virgil than Logan since Virgil's my best friend and that's what best friends do for each other.
I stand up with my glass in hand, quickly grabbing one of the various forks on the table and lightly tapping said fork against the glass, gaining everyone's attention.
"Alright, alright! I would like to give a toast to the groom. And his groom." I said, giving a slight nod towards the two grooms. I feel my hands shaking a bit, but I just ignore it.
"From your best friend, also known as me, Roman Prince. Who's always by your side. Or, was by your side. Since that would be Logan now and you guys are married and all that wonderful stuff." That earned a laugh or two. Soon, I noticed that my hand was shaking even more. Weird. I quickly hid my free hand inside my pocket to avoid suspicion.
"Anyways, to your union! And the hope that you'll provide that we may find love ourselves, of course." I lower the glass, soon noticing the room spinning and quickly getting darker. It wasn't like this before...was it?
"And may the two of you always be sa-"
The last thing I remember before fainting was the sound of a glass shattering and I, myself, falling to the ground.
I open my eyes, and it feels like I'm falling. Wait, am I falling? I look beneath my feet and...yup. I'm falling.
I look around and I see past memories. Some good, others...not so good. I feel tears start to fall down my face and I wipe them away quickly.
I look down again, and see a familiar place. Huh. It looks a little bit like-
I soon fall onto the ground, and quickly stand up, dusting off my jeans. I look around and I soon realized where I am.
It seems that I'm at the party that Patton threw about...four years ago.
I remember that night. It was the night that Logan and I met Virgil. But why would I be here...
I take a few steps down the staircase, and see a slightly younger version of myself getting stopped by multiple men and women, all trying to talk to me. It was...annoying, to say the least.
The odd thing here was that, unlike when it actually happened, everyone else was still as a statue. And they even kind of looked like it.
Anyways, at the time I was just trying to find Virgil, who Patton had told Logan and I about. He said that we would like him, that he would be a great addition to our friend group.
At the time, I thought that the practically living ball of sunshine was going to be wrong about Virgil. But now? Now that I know the emo nightmare? Well, I may have liked him a little too much considering that I...yeah.
"Excuse me, sir, but you seem...lost. Are you trying to find your way back to Heaven?" I remember a very flirty woman said to me.
As I was trying to give her the hint that I'm not interested and she wouldn't stop, I felt an arm wrap in mine. I turned and saw a slightly shorter male next to me. He had brown hair with streaks of purple in it, along with a purple patched hoodie. His faced looked a little pale and he had some black eyeshadow smeared under his eyes.
Little did I know that was the man I would fall for and watch fall in love with my friend all in the same night.
"Excuse me, but I would appreciate if you stopped flirting with my boyfriend." The stranger said, with fake annoyance in his tone.
Luckily the woman must have thought that he was actually annoyed, and she left, muttering something about why must all the hot men be gay.
The stranger let go of my arm, and turned to face me.
To me, he looked...stunning. I couldn't keep my eyes off of him. Something just drew me to him and I wasn't sure why. Was it the make up? His eyes? The fact that he looked a little bit opposite to me?
"Hey, are you gonna stop staring at me or...?" The emo said, with a bit of annoyance in his tone, snapping me out of my daze.
"Oh, yeah. Sorry." I managed to say. Despite only having just met him, I remember being flustered. I mean, just watching a slightly younger version of myself falling for him is painful in it's own ways and kind of freaky as well.
"You...seem like someone who's never been satisfied." He said to me, out of the blue with a smile.
"I'm not sure what you mean by that, but I think your forgetting yourself." I said with a slight wink. Ugh, just looking back at that I'm cringing.
"Your exactly like them...your never satisfied." He stated, almost smirking.
"Is that right? You think that I'm never satisfied?" I said, raising an eyebrow. He nodded in response, and I held out my hand for him to shake.
"My name is Roman Prince."
"Virgil Sangria." He replied, shaking my hand. So THIS is the Virgil Patton was talking about. He's a lot cuter than I expected. Wait, what? I remember I thought that, sighing a bit.
"Your last name sounds...interesting, to say the least. Where exactly is your family from?" I asked him. I mentally face palmed. I was such an idiot, well I still am, but not as much.
Virgil's hand started fidgeting, and he had a slightly nervous look on his face. "That's...unimportant, really."
I remember that I was gonna press on him to say it, but we quickly got interrupted by Patton, who had a smile on his face which quickly grew as he approached us.
"I see you guys have met!" Patton said cheerfully, before grabbing Virgil's arm. Speaking of Virgil, he looked like he was about to say something but then Patton spoke up again.
"I'm gonna steal you for a second so I can introduce you to Logan! C'mon, I bet he can't wait!" Patton said to Virgil, quickly walking away, dragging him away with him.
I then noticed my slightly younger self take a seat one one of the stools at the bar-like area of the room.
I remember me rambling on and on to the bartender, all excited and stuff. The bartender, who probably thought I was drunk, just nodded and pretended to listen.
Now that I can see what was happening with the others, I see Patton start to take Virgil in the direction of Logan. But then his younger brother Thomas rushed up to him and said something about...well, something. And the two rushed off, leaving Virgil just to stand there.
At this point, I remember turning around in my stool and feeling my heart immediately shatter at the sight.
Virgil was looking at Logan. And Virgil looked absolutely smitten.
The next thing that happened was almost a blur. It happened so fast.
I remember standing up and walking over to my dear emo friend, about to confess before he can confess to Logan.
Virgil then turned around, and spoke to me.
"O-oh, hey Roman. You...you saw that didn't you?" I nodded, and he just looked nervous and even a tiny bit...scared. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it for reassurance.
"I'll talk to him for you, if you want." I said with a slightly fake smile. Just because I loved him didn't mean I wanted him all for myself. I'd rather see him happy then him doing something he doesn't want to do.
Virgil just nodded, and I made my way over to Logan. I grabbed Logan's arm and started to lead him towards Virgil.
"Roman? What are you doing? Where are you ta-"
"I'm about to change your life. Trust me on this, Lo." I interrupted, already knowing what Logan was about to say. It was pretty obvious. So why bother hearing something you've already heard before or expected to hear before?
I led him towards Virgil, who looked...happy? Nervous? I couldn't tell at the time, and I still can't, even watching the entire scene before my eyes now I couldn't tell.
Actually, to quote a certain musical, he looked "Helpless."
What? When in doubt, quote musicals. (That is now my quote okay by now-)
"V-Virgil Sangria. It's a pleasure to meet you." Virgil said, offering his hand with a smile.
Logan then turned to me and whispered something in my ear. "Is this...is this the Virgil Patton was talking about?" Logan asked me, and I just nodded. I could already tell he feel for him to.
Logan turned back to Virgil, and shook his hand. "Well, if it takes this party to meet it will have been worth it."
I looked at the slightly younger version of myself, looking slightly sad and disappointed, before quickly smiling and speaking up again.
"I'll leave you too it." And with that, I walked away. Regretting not telling him.
I really do wish I told him. I mean, it would've been me up at the alter instead of Logan if I just confessed! I mean, if I could-wait, why is the room spinning? It's growing darker and darker and darker and......
I open my eyes, still on the ground. Was it all a dream? I look up slightly, seeing Virgil kneeling besides me, looking worried.
"Roman! Thank god your awake!" Virgil said to me as I sat up and quickly standing up.
"We almost had to call an ambulance." Logan added, looking only a little concerned.
"Yeah, yeah, love you too, Microsoft nerd." I casually said, earning a laugh from t darkly dressed man. Surprisingly, he choose to wear dark clothing on his wedding day.
I grabbed another glass from the table as the happy couple returned to the table they were seated at.
I quickly finished my toast, soon sitting down. Everything soon went back to normal, people continuing their conversations and doing what they were doing before.
All acting like it never happened. Like I never fainted, like I never finished my toast. Just like a spec in the wind, never really noticed a lot. Or at all.
After ten minutes, I decided to go get some fresh air. And probably let a few tears fall while I'm out there, since I've been holding them in since that day.
I sneak out, making nobody sees me, and I stand on the balcony, slowly walking towards the railing.
"And I knoow...he'll be happy with him," I start to quietly sing to a tune from a musical, which I can't exactly remember at the moment, "And I knoow...He will never be satisfied, I will never be satisfiiieeed."
As I finish up, I feel some tears down my face. When did they start to come out?
As I am trying to figure it out, I hear a voice behind me.
"Roman?"
