Part 14



I hear a pair of clapping hands and I turn my head to see Steel standing there. The door is closed behind him and I feel a little bit anxious if anyone else had heard.

”How long have you been here for?” I ask avoiding eye contact. I don’t need his intense eyes to make me all confused.

”I followed you,” he answer me with a smirk. ”And I was worried about my children too since all the nurses are out there.”

”I hope you took some time to give a donation.”

”I did if you must know.”

Albin jumps up next to me on the sofa and my heart melts away just by looking at him.

”Sing more!” he demands excitedly.

”Calm down little guy,” Steel tells his son nicely. ”MD must rest now for the baby.”

”I like babies, I don’t remember Preston being one. Dad can I have a baby?” Albin rambles.

”I am sure MD will let you play with her baby, would you like that?”

He nods eagerly.

”Yes of course, Albin. I would love you and Preston to be friends with my baby. Do you want to feel my belly? The baby is kicking really soft so you must concentrate to feel.”

He jumps off the sofa to hide behind his dad.

”I like babies but it is scary that he is stuck inside of you!” he says scared.

Steel and I both laugh.

”It’s okay, you don’t have to.” I assure him.

The door opens and a gorgeous brunette in a green silky dress and black high heels walks in. If she intend to look sexy she definetly succeeded.

”Shawn! I have been looking all over for you.”

”Hi Salma,” he greets her coldly. ”I was seeing how my boys were doing in here. The hostess can’t look after them all by herself.”

”Do you know Molly from before?” she ask him curiously and a bit jealous?

”Yes, we are in the same business.”

”What kind of business?”

”The parental business,” he says before I decided if I should hit him hard with the guitar or not. ”Now was there something you wanted?” he adds annoyed.

”Well,” She walks up closely to him so I can feel her heavy perfume. ”What are you doing tonight? I’m available.”

”I’m not. I have my boys tonight.”

He step away from her and leaves the room. Salma gives me a dirty look and runs after him. It looks ridiculous but that is not really unusual in our world. I have also been chased by men who wants me and that is disturbing. The nurses comes back with big smiles and one of them walks up to me.

”We raised quite a lot of money here tonight,” she says happily. ”I am going to the hospital to put these boxes away safely, the other nurses will stay for two more hours. Thank you for a nice evening.”

”You’re welcome,” I smile at her and she walks away with two nurses helping her carry the boxes to the car.

”Make sure she arrives to the hospital safely, Walker,” I order my bodyguard who is patiently standing in the hall outside the play room.

”Yes, miss Williams,” he says and confirms my order to the gate.

My phone starts ringing and I pick it up from my purse and walk into one of the guest rooms to answer the call more privately.

”Hi, Jamie, how kind of you to call me tonight.” I greet him more coldly than I intended to.

”Hi, Darlene,” he answers warmly ”Did you like the flowers?”

”You’re always so… generous.” I lay down in the bed.

”You know me.”

”I love them thank you.”

”I just wanted to call you, are you having fun?”

”Sure, but I still prefer a gala.”

”You can always tell them the truth you know.”

I sigh and taps my free hand into the wall. ”I feel tired and my back hurts. I don’t mind taking a small nap here.”

”Don’t overwork yourself, it is only two months left till you give birth.”

”Do you think I will be a good mom?”

”You are going to rock as a mom, Darlene.” I hear in his voice that he really means it.

”Thank you for being a good friend Jamie.” I thank him.

”I love you, I don’t really want to be your friend.”

I have to sit up straight, I think my heart stopped beating.

”What?” I burst out in shock. ”You dare tell me that! You… bastard!”

”Darlene, I always wanted you,” he admits in a sad voice. ”I only broke up because Rick threatened to ruin my career. Well, I think it is time for you to know the truth, because back then I wasn’t as famous as I am now and Rick has connections.”

”And you aren’t kidding?” I ask with the thin air I have left inside of me.

”No, I’m sorry. I am really happy for you though. It is my fault, I let him do this to us.”

”And you tell me this tonight because…?”

”I’m a bad loser. I won’t hold you up anymore, enjoy your evening. Bye Darling.”

His sweet voice disappears before I can say anything. I let my phone fall to the floor and I curl myself to a ball on the bed, well as much as I can then! Salty tears are running down my cheeks and my emotions is in a complete mess. Jamie would never lie and he was sincere. It’s just, all these years I tried to get over him! I want him, I want Jamie and Darlene as the sweetest celebrity couple even if it never was a dance on roses. We belong to the same world and Molly is just a shadow in all of this. My life has turned into a real drama. I am pregnant with another man, I can’t have the dream I want with Jamie. I know one thing for sure though, I can’t stay here and sulk for the rest of the evening when I have all these guests here waiting for me. I am going to put on a smile and the best act I can manage to be a good hostess, and then.. Well I am going to kill Rick of course. I smile evilly. Maybe Steel will get what he wants from me after all.

I am back in the party hall after fixing my makeup. I am still in a bliss after my short private concert, still hurting because of that gorilla Rick. No more shadow Molly, I must shine tonight. I have my pride.

I let my hand grip Matt’s arm softly and I smile warmly when I meet his gorgeous eyes.

”Did you miss me?” I ask him with a wink.

”I did, did you have fun with the kids?” He leans down to kiss my lips and I moan when I feel the electricity between us. I throw my arms around him to kiss him deeper. I let go of him when I hear everyone around us go ”aww”.

”I love you Matt.”

And I mean it. That stupid mess with Jamie is not going to ruin anything for me and Matt tonight. I do love Jamie, but I am in love with Matt and Matt never broke my heart.

”I love you too sweetheart.”

”The children were sweet. I sang for them and they loved it.”

”Really? I wish I could have been there but a certain control freak told me to watch over the donation process.”

I laugh and let him kiss me again.

”About that, I think I need to inspect how the kitchen is preparing the dessert.”

He joins me and everything for the dessert is ready to roll into the big hall to my satisfaction. The catering employees are fast and soon enough everyone is getting coffee and cakes.

Matt, I and Auntie are chatting and I can see that Mrs Gregory is walking up to me in her own important way. She barely gives me a glance before pointing at the dessert table.

”Donuts,” she states and I look questionably back.

”I can see that,” I answer her sweetly.

”It is not suitable to serve!” she hisses quietly.

”It is suitable for me.”

”It is not suitable for us!” she keeps nagging.

”I love donuts and I won’t have a party without them!” I defend my precious donuts.

”No wonder you’re fat.”

”Excuse me?” my aunt fires off. ”That fat is your grand child and at the moment I don’t think you deserve to have any. Molly is a complete health freak and donuts is one of the few things with high calories that she actually wants to eat.”

”Oh, you say so?” Mrs Gregory says angrily.

”I know so,” my aunt answers her firmly with more authority than Matt’s mother ever will be able to with her whiny voice.

”And we thought she would behave around guests,” I sigh to Matt and he shakes his head clearly disappointed over his mother’s behaviour.

I don’t want to listen to any of their argues so I leave them all to find someone who can cheer me up. I flee to the karaoke room just to find my sister, her friends and Eric and Penny having their dessert while singing.

”Gosh, am I glad to see you all!” I yell happily and steal a donut from Eric’s plate. He has five on it so I don’t think he will mind?

”Molly!” Anne shouts back over the music. ”Sing with me!”

I walk up to her with half my donut in my mouth.

”Sure, but I must warn you that I don’t sing very well.”

In fact I sing better than that! I let her choose a song for us and everyone claps their hands when they hear the song and it brings a smile on my face too.

”You’ve got to be kidding me!” I laugh and Anne just laughs with me and we start singing Hakuna Matata from the Lion King. Well at least we are trying to sing through our laughs. We all takes turns and I manage to pass a few turns blaming my pregnancy. I like being with them all, this is so different from the friends I made in show business where everyone tries to outshine each other. This is so genuine, I wish I could have discovered this earlier. It is even funnier to see Eric try to sing Barbie Girl with one of Anne’s friends. He jumps down on the seat next to me after the song trying to catch his breath.

”Oh my gosh, madam. No wonder you only wanted to sing once. I am totally drained.”

”Hush mister, not so used to singing I hear?”

”Only when mom forced me to join the church choir when I was nine.”

”Oh my, that must have been horrible,” I say and tries to imagine him being dragged to church by his mom in fancy Sunday clothes. It makes me chuckle and he moans.

”Don’t say you are imagining it!”

”Aww but it’s cute!”

”It was torture!”

”Eat a donut and drink some ice-tea, it will make you feel better.”

”Well you ate my donuts, all five.”

I raise my hands to surrender.

”They tempted me, I had no choice.”

”That was amazing you know,” he says with a warm smile. ”The donation you know. I used to be at that hospital a lot when I was a kid. I saw a lot of sick children and it is so good to see you care for them.”

”Well no problem Eric, I can’t feel any meaning with my life if I just stand by looking.”

”You are so good and generous, Molly. Never change who you are for anything.”

”Thank you Eric,” I say tear eyed and gives him a long hug. ”Did you take your pills?”

”Yes mom,” he answer me annoyingly.

”Just checking.”

They are about to change song when another person enters the room.

”So it is in here you are hiding MD,” I hear Steel’s sexy voice from behind me.

”I am not hiding SB,” I answer him. ”I am socialising with my guests.”

”MDSB sounds nice you know, do you want to try the sound of that on the karaoke?”

”In your dreams, Steel,” I tell him and Eric helps me get up from the sofa. I flash him a smile for the help and then position myself in front of Shawn. ”Are you having a good night? Did you manage to escape from Salma?”

”Oh yes, that’s why I was coming here. She is throwing herself all over poor Matthew. You should ask your body guard to kick her out of here.”

”Oh dear heavens,” I mutter. ”Come on Walker.”

I don’t have to walk far to hear them around the corner.

”Come on Matt, I know you want me!” Salma says with a seducing voice.

”Leave me alone, I am not interested,” is Matt’s angry reply.

I turn the corner to see Salma pressed to my fiancé, clinging with her arms around him in the empty hall. She is kissing him but he breaks free and that is when he sees me and I can see the shock in his eyes for being seen in this kind of situation that doesn’t look too good for him. I just raise my eyebrows and put my arms in a cross over my chest.

”Pathetic Salma?” I say and she swirls around angrily. ”Steel didn’t want you so you went after my man instead?”

”Shawn wants you so I didn’t see anything wrong in taking your man!”

”Believe me, Steel is not attracted to me.”

Matt takes his chance to flee from Salma’s claws and stands next to me. Salma just laughs hysterically. There must be something seriously wrong with her.

”Walker, escort her out,” I order and I don’t need to ask that twice.

”Molly, I swear, I didn’t touch her,” Matt tells me when they are out of sight.

”Are you kidding? Why would you touch her when you have a world famous stunning fiancée.” I reach up to kiss his lips. ”I trust you Matt.”

”I’m crazy about you Molly.”

”I hope my aunt won the fight with your mom.”

”They are still arguing. I am sure they will be best friends by tomorrow.”

I chuckle at the thought. There is no way Mrs Gregory will accept someone that goes against her.

”Are you having fun tonight?”

”Yes, I just don’t see you enough.”

”I promise to stay by your side for the rest of the evening. Now let’s go talk with the rest of our guests.”

The rest of the evening is wonderful. We end up chatting with all out guests and suddenly the time is getting quite late and the families with the younger children has to go home. All the children hugs me a lot and waves secretly to me when they leave. I didn’t even tell them to keep it a secret and once again I’m amazed over how smart kids can be.

”They know, don’t they?” Matt whispers in my ear.

”Yup.”

He kisses my neck and I feel my knees wobble.

”Matt! We still have guests,” I try to tell him off.

”I am not blind, sweetheart. Let’s go grab the last donuts?”

I can’t decline and I must admit that my pregnancy gives me a crave for donuts that I can’t resist. Just like I can't resist Matt.
