Chapter 44: The Rival's Move
The day after the press conference, YN and Seokjin returned to the office with a newfound sense of purpose. The tension between them had eased, and they were more united than ever. However, the challenges they faced were far from over. The media had been temporarily placated, but there were still internal issues to address, including the growing tension with Jang Minseo, who had been getting closer to Seokjin.
Minseo had always been a competitive and ambitious woman, someone who was used to getting what she wanted. And what she wanted now was Seokjin. She had watched from the sidelines as YN and Seokjin's relationship had evolved, her jealousy and resentment growing with each passing day. Now, she was ready to make her move.
That morning, Minseo walked into the office with a determined look in her eyes. She had planned everything carefully, waiting for the right moment to strike. She knew that YN was busy with a meeting, and she decided it was the perfect time to approach Seokjin.
Seokjin was in his office, going over some documents, when Minseo knocked on the door. “Come in,” he called out without looking up.
Minseo entered, closing the door behind her. She leaned against the doorframe, her gaze locked on Seokjin. “Good morning, Seokjin,” she said in a tone that was too sweet, too calculated.
Seokjin looked up and gave her a polite smile. “Good morning, Minseo. What can I do for you?”
Minseo sauntered over to his desk, her hips swaying seductively. “I was just thinking we should talk. After all, we’ve been working together for a while, and I feel like we’ve never really gotten to know each other.”
Seokjin’s smile faltered slightly as he sensed the underlying intent behind her words. “We’ve worked together professionally, Minseo. I think that’s all we need to know about each other.”Minseo chuckled, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Oh, come on, Seokjin. Don’t be so cold. I just thought we could have a little chat, maybe grab a drink after work.”
Seokjin stood up from his desk, his expression turning serious. “I’m sorry, Minseo, but I’m not interested. And I think you know why.”
Minseo’s smile faded, replaced by a look of irritation. “You’re really going to choose YN over me? You know she doesn’t deserve you, right? She’s using you, Seokjin. She’s manipulating you to keep you by her side because she knows you’re the only one who can handle her.”
Seokjin’s jaw tightened, anger flaring in his chest. “You’re wrong, Minseo. YN and I are in love, and there’s nothing manipulative about our relationship. I suggest you stop whatever game you’re playing because it won’t end well for you.”
Minseo’s eyes flashed with anger as she stepped closer, lowering her voice to a whisper. “You’re making a mistake, Seokjin. I’m offering you something better, something more exciting. YN will only hold you back.”
Seokjin took a step back, maintaining a distance between them. “Minseo, this conversation is over. I’m committed to YN, and nothing you say or do will change that.”
Minseo’s expression darkened as she realised she wasn’t going to get what she wanted. “You’ll regret this, Seokjin,” she hissed before turning on her heel and storming out of the office.
Seokjin sighed, running a hand through his hair. He knew that Minseo wouldn’t give up easily, and her threat lingered in the back of his mind. But he was determined not to let her come between him and YN.
Later that day, Seokjin met YN for lunch in the company’s private dining room. As they sat down, he noticed that YN seemed preoccupied, her brow furrowed in thought.
“What’s on your mind?” Seokjin asked gently, reaching across the table to take her hand.
YN looked up, forcing a small smile. “It’s nothing. Just some issues with the new project we’re working on. I’ll figure it out.”
Seokjin squeezed her hand reassuringly. “You always do. But if there’s anything I can help with, just let me know.”
“I will,” YN replied, her smile becoming more genuine. “How was your morning?”
Seokjin hesitated for a moment, debating whether to tell her about his encounter with Minseo. He didn’t want to worry her, but he also knew that they needed to be honest with each other.
“Actually, there’s something I need to tell you,” Seokjin began, his tone serious.
YN’s expression turned concerned as she leaned in closer. “What is it?”
“Minseo came to see me this morning,” Seokjin admitted. “She tried to, let’s just say she wasn’t very professional.”
YN’s eyes widened slightly, her expression hardening. “What did she do?”
“She tried to seduce me,” Seokjin said bluntly. “But I told her I’m committed to you and that I’m not interested.”
YN’s heart tightened with a mixture of anger and relief. She had always known that Minseo had her eye on Seokjin, but hearing it confirmed made her blood boil. “I can’t believe she would do that,” YN muttered, her voice laced with frustration.
“Don’t worry,” Seokjin said, his tone firm. “I shut her down, and I made it clear that she’s not going to come between us. But I thought you should know.”
YN nodded, grateful for Seokjin’s honesty. “Thank you for telling me. We’ll need to keep an eye on her. She’s not going to give up easily.”
“I know,” Seokjin agreed. “But whatever happens, we’ll face it together.”
YN smiled at him, feeling a surge of love and admiration for the man who had stood by her side through everything. “I love you, Seokjin.”
“I love you too, YN,” Seokjin replied, leaning across the table to kiss her softly. “And nothing and no one will ever change that.”
As they finished their lunch and prepared to return to work, YN couldn’t shake the feeling that the tension with Minseo was far from over. She knew they would have to stay vigilant, but with Seokjin by her side, she felt ready to face whatever challenges came their way.
