                                                 Nala

I awoke to murmuring sounds and found a sea gull chattering in my ear. Weirdly, I understood what it was saying. Apparently, a bird in its flock had died from accidentally choking on fishing line and the hook got caught in its throat. I didn't know why it was telling me this, but it felt normal to me, so I kept listening. Then it warned me that people were coming this way and flew off. I looked around and saw Ana's sign. Sure enough, a few minutes later, I heard rustling in the brush farther off the beach. Getting a head start, I half ran half flew away.

I hid in a palm grove and watched the people. They were wearing shirts that had flowers on them and one had a camera and was taking pictures. I then guessed that they were tourists. The tourists went over to the sign that Ana had written and looked out to sea. I saw Ana just arriving and motioned to her to keep her head down. She didn't see me but luckily the tourists backs were turned when she surfaced. When she saw the tourists, she ducked back down and swam over to a pile of reeds.

I was about to follow her when one of the tourist started following my foot prints. I froze. The tourist kept coming closer and closer. Finally, she stopped as my footprints disappeared. When she looked up for a clue to why they had stopped, I ducked. The other tourist called to her and they left, but not before taking a bunch of pictures. After they had gone, I walked to the other side where Ana was waiting.

"Boo!" I said and she jumped.

 "Agh!"

I chuckled at her. We made a plan. "Ok, so I have $10 that we can use to stock up on food." I said.

"Aren't you missing the point?" She said. "Our dads are going to KILL us! And how are you going to explain your wings?"

I thought for a moment. "Maybe they don't have to know anything." I said. "All we have to do is make up a confusing story and maybe they'll buy it!" She pointed to my wings.

"I can fold them and wear a hoodie until we think of something." I said. "Until then I need something to eat." She nodded. We followed the tourists path until we came to a small town. We found a small restaurant and stuffed whatever we could in our pockets for the journey home. When we got back at the beach, I said "Wait, I want to try something." I moved her close to the water's edge and let her transform. "What are you doing!?" she said, looking around wildly to make sure no one was watching. "I just want to try something quick." I said back. I closed my eyes to concentrate. I imagined Ana drying off, with all the water droplets sliding off of her. I opened my eyes too find her in human form and looking amazed.

"When did you learn that?" She asked, surprised.

"Just now." I said, as shocked as she was.

"Let's go." she said. And we were off.
