Bopper's narration

Now I know what you guys are thinking.

"How can things get worse?"

And you probably also thought...

"How did you get into the Resistance?"

Let me tell you, it was more open than you think it was.

Normal POV (with Bopper)

Empire City

Ben Gruff walks through the city, the streets completely empty and void of people.

To make it even more unnatural, fog across the streets and left behind cars felt even more like out of a horror film.

He reached the gym and looks around, equipment scattered everywhere from the attack.

He calls out. "Joey? Are you here?"

Ben finds a picture of himself with Joey after Ben won his last match.

Ben looks around, thinking to himself on the disaster around him. "All of this....with no hero around to beat that madman."

A voice speaks up. "Not all of them are gone, kid."

Ben turns around and was relieved to see who it was.

The bear smiles. "Hey V! Long time no see. What are you doing here?"

Vector walks over to him. "I was just looking for survivors from Eggman's attack here. G.U.N managed to get the army away from this city, but their too stretched out to see if anyone is stuck here."

Ben replies with a flinch. "That's not good. Did the president get out in time too?"

Vector shook his head. "Nope. Him and the military dug their feet in and turned the White House into a fortress. Not a single Egg Pawn got close to the place."

Ben asks him. "Do you need any help finding people? I'm looking for Joey to see if he survived the attack."

Vector gestures a thumb behind him. "Joey likely made it with the people leaving. But you're welcome to join the Resistance, we could use the help."

Ben shook his head. "Sorry, I'm an athlete, not a soldier."

Vector turns around and starts to walk off. "The only way we can beat Eggman is with a team. Nothing else will."

Ben follows him closely, not wanting to be left alone.

Vector adds. "If this place gets hit hard....who knows how aggressive Greenwood Falls being invaded would be."

Ben thinks a few minutes about what the crocodile said.

Eggman wasn't holding back like usual, but going full invasion instead.

If he's going for world domination, it won't be long until his home is next.

Ben starts to envision his parents and brother forcefully put inside robots for Eggman's "utopia".

Eggman winning is a future the bear couldn't afford.

Ben looks at Vector. "Where do I sign up?"

Fury's narration

Where was I after the war began?

Back at home, struggling to stay alive and avoiding getting caught.

My guardians, the Robinsons, were forcefully evacuated from the city before the army hit.

Rosie was probably scared to death that I was still out there.......alone.

Normal POV (with Fury)

Westopolis

Kyle searches through an empty supermarket for any food left behind from the evacuation.

The produce was starting to get dated without the freezers on, so anything he could eat was limited.

The water bottles wouldn't be a problem, but any other drinks like milk were ruined and spoiled by the heat getting in.

This kind of life surviving in the urban jungle was like trying to survive the apocalypse, empty streets and everything.

After getting what he needed into a backpack, Kyle leaves and heads for his temporary shelter.

The remains of the orphanage was where he was staying, praying that maybe Windy might come back.

Once he finished eating, Kyle went to the rooftop to lookout for anyone coming.

Across from him was a billboard of the Mobius' "hero" that he asked to be put there in front of the orphanage.

He remembered hearing rumors that his best friend was an orphan too.

The orphanage owner said it was there to give the kids "hope" that one day they would be their own hero.

And the hope that someone would "be there" for them.

Kyle glares at it, bitter towards the false message it promoted.

He grabbed rocks and threw them at the billboard. "Hope?! That's what you stand for?! How so?! Because I've seen nothing but lies so far!"

"Where were you when the Black Arms invaded and almost captured us all?!"

"Where were you when our city was demolished by the earthquakes caused by Dark Gaia?!"

"And lastly....where were you when Eggman attacked and took everyone away?!"

Kyle catches his breath after throwing rocks and venting out at his own imagination.

Right now, he needed to see if any robots were searching the area for survivors or Resistance members.

Grabbing some binoculars, he looks at each part of the street he's in, looking for anything that moves.

After 10 minutes, he found nothing out there.

It wasn't like he was going to expect Infinite to show up.

Heck, even Zavok and Metal would see no point in coming here anyways.

Though Kyle wouldn't mind going a few rounds against Shadow, what with him being there to take his sister away.

He got tired and decided to get down below to bed to rest, needing his strength for his next trek for food and supplies.

Just before he could pull the covers up, he heard a knock at the door.

He went to open it, unamused with who it was.

Kyle groans. "Oh great, it's you.

Rouge answered him. "Oh come on Kyle, that's no way to greet a lady."

Kyle rolls his eyes. "What do you want, Rouge? I got nothing I can give you."

Rouge playfully smirks. "That's all you care about? Giving me something so I can leave you alone to yell at something else?"

Kyle blushed in embarrassment. "Whatever! You've got nothing to do with me anyways. Shouldn't you get back to helping that agency of yours?"

Rouge replies calmly. "G.U.N is busy fighting a war with Eggman to send me on stealth missions, so I joined with the Resistance."

Kyle nods. "Makes sense, though you're kinda late, all of the children in this orphanage have been taken captive."

Rouge frowns at the news. "Oh....I'm sorry, I didn't know your sister was kidnapped."

Kyle sighs. "Too late for apologizes.....especially since your partner was with the group who took her."

Rouge was a little surprised. "Shadow helped Eggman kidnap children?"

Kyle nods. "It was him. Every time I tried to hit him, he teleported around me like he was toying with me."

Rouge shook her head. "That's not like Shadow at all. He wouldn't just side with Eggman out of the blue."

Kyle crosses his arms. "Well, he did. Now most of the people have either left or was taken. I bet I'm the only survivor here in the city by now."

Rouge tells him as best she could. "Kyle.....no one was going to see this coming. Even you couldn't get ready for this."

Kyle mutters. "That's not going to fix my problem right now."

Rouge offers him something. "Join the Resistance. We can get your sister back and rebuild your home."

Kyle lets go of the door. "I doubt me being there would make any difference."

Rouge turns around and starts to walk off. "Whatever you say...though I'll have to tell Windy that her big brother spent the war hiding in an orphanage while eating gram crackers and bread."

Kyle glares at her. "Fine. You win. I'll join your little army."

Rouge giggles at Fury's short tempered reaction. "That's more like it."

Hip's narration

So where am I in this story?

Uh.....this is gonna be awkward.

I was in an ambulance on the way to get help.

Dad pretty much rushed as fast as he could to keep up with me.

Normal POV (with Soar Featherstorm)

10 miles from infirmary

The ambulance was pulled over after it got a flat tire, forcing it and Soar's car to get onto the side of the road.

Soar stayed next to his son, who was on a stretcher with his hands and feet being treated the best they could.

He looks at the paramedic called earlier. "How is he?"

The paramedic sighs. "The injuries are making it easy for him to catch infections, and it might kill him with gangrene if he's not treated with the right tools in time."

Soar felt sick at the mention of the last case, knowing it was disgusting when he saw some soldiers get it.

(Author: Do not look it up!)

They needed to get Ace the proper medical attention....now!

His prayers were answered quicker than Soar could pray for them.

Someone stepped out of the bushes after running through the nearby woods fast.

Soar looks at her. "Are you here to get us to the infirmary? My son needs help now."

Amy nods. "I'm here to bring help from the Resistance. You are heading for the infirmary not far from here. We can get him there through the woods."

Before they could try that direction, she gets a call from one of her friends.

She looks at them. "We need another shortcut. There's been a sighting of Chaos deep in that area."

Soar offers a solution. "There's an old tunnel not far from here. We can use that to get across the woods."

The paramedic adds. "We'll need to use his car since the ambulance has a flat tire."

Amy nods and helps the medic get Ace into the car while Soar drives with them in the back.

Soar pulls over onto a gravel road minutes later and drives down an old military path.

Unfortunately, Egg Pawns started a get onto the road to stop them.

Soar calls to the back. "I need some help getting these guys off our path!"

Amy climbs onto the roof of the car. "I got this!"

She pulls out her Piko Piko Hammer and hits Egg Pawns that got in front of the car, being a robot plow for the car to get through.

Soar pulls out his handgun and starts laying out shots as well, trying to help lessen the obstacles.

They start getting close to the place, which Soar needed to stop soon to avoid a crash.

Soar tells her. "When I say jump, jump onto that branch that's coming up!"

Amy gets ready, putting her hammer away and getting her legs positioned to jump.

When close enough, he says it to her. "Jump!"

Amy jumps to the branch, just in time before Soar had to slam the breaks.

If Amy stayed on top, she would've been catapulted into something and get injured too.

The pink heroine lands onto the ground and hurried over to get Ace to the tunnel.

Soar gets the lock open and lets them in before shutting it behind them.

Amy asks as they walk down the hall. "How did you know about this place?"

Soar answered. "I hid here with a bunch of soldiers during Robotnik's first invasion."

Amy tilts her head. "What were you doing here during that time?"

Soar hesitated to answer, but felt like he could trust her. "I was serving in the Great War at the time. A pilot in the 316th squadron."

Amy was surprised. "You fought on the human side during the Great War?"

Soar nods. "It's something you can't talk about to your fellow Mobians."

Amy smiles. "Whatever your reason was, your secret is safe with me."

Soar smiles back. "Thank you, Ms Rose."

Amy shook her head. "Just call me Amy."

Soar nods. "If you say so."

Fury's narration

And that's how all three of us got pulled into the war.

If this was just about that, it would've ended here,

But something else happened in the background during the war.

Something that forced the three of us to band together against it.

And it would set us for another conflict years later.

Normal POV

A G.U.N facility

Soldiers scrambled to get ready as alarms went off throughout the base.

One soldier, however, was running the opposite direction with a small disk in his hands.

The disk contained important data that G.U.N needed to be sent to the Resistance via download.

He reached the door to the communications room, but it wouldn't open completely.

The lights went out in the hallways as the soldiers point their weapons down the corridor.

A red glow appears, menacing eyes behind a metal helmet.

One of the soldiers shouts. "Open fire!"

The entire group of soldiers unload a hail fire of bullets at Infinite, trying to take him out or delay his trek down the halls.

Infinite puts up a barrier and walks forward, the shots just falling short of him.

When close enough, he slashes down soldiers left and right, making a path for the communications room.

The soldier with the disk stretched his arm through the opening over to the man inside. "Take it! Take it!"

The soldier on the other side grabs it just in time before Infinite blasts a hole through his chest.

The one inside the room hurried over and put into the computer, starting the download process.

Suddenly, the door was blown off it's position on the wall, with Infinite on the other end staring at the man.

The soldier pulls out his pistol and shoots several shots in a vain attempt to stop him.

Infinite gets up close to him, staring down his eyes and relishing in the fear he was giving off.

The soldier then gets blasted and has his body launched into the wall.

Infinite pulls the disk out and crushes it in his palm, leaving no evidence of what was on it.

He calls in after leaving the room. "It's done. All data is destroyed."

Eggman responds. "Excellent! Return back to base so we can prepare the next wave."

Infinite leaves the place, unaware something else was happening.
