Chapter 6 - Saying Goodbye
Out in the forest, in the small cavern, Lia and Chris were trying to keep warm by huddling close, but it wasn't doing much for them.
"W-we need t-to get out of here, or find a way to make fire.. or anything." Chris said.
"Y-yeah."
"Hello?! Can anyone hear me?! Please!"
Lia was freezing and her left eye had turned black and the center was white.
"Lia! Please hold on!" I need to think of something, anything! This is the worst situation Lia's ever been in. Chris thought.
"Lia, i-it's dangerous, but I think I need to go out and get help."
"No..."
"I-It's dangerous, I-I know, but we won't survive long if we don't.. Lia?! Lia!! She's ice cold! Lia please wake up! Lia! Lia!! Lia!!!!!!"
Back at the lodge, Jianna and the others were trying to find out what happened to Pixle when she had gone missing. There was something that stuck out to Jianna that made her thing it was something more than just a hit on the head that messed with Pixle's memory.
"She doesn't have a temperature... Her vitals seem normal, but I'm sure you've all noticed it."
"Huh?"
"Yeah."
"Noticed what?" Belle asked.
"Belle, you've known Pixle for a while, but look closely at her face." Jianna said.
"Hmm, kind of hard to see her entire face when her hair is covering it." Belle replied.
"Hey!"
"You don't need to see her entire face to know something's off." Jianna said.
"Really? What is it?" Belle asked.
"Her eyes..." Skellington answered.
"Her eyes? They look the same to me." Belle said.
"They're not- Pixle's eyes are naturally silver, but her eyes are green." Skellington said.
"Oh!... You're right. I didn't notice that before." Belle said.
"I think we were all caught up in finding her that we didn't think to question it." Jianna replied.
"To be honest, I was just glad that she was back safe and sound." Skellington said.
"We all were, especially Christian." Belle replied.
"Pixle, what exactly happened with your eyes?" Jianna asked.
"What are you talking about?" Pixle asked.
"Your eyes are a different color." Jianna answered.
"They are?"
"Yes, they are. Uh, does anyone have a mirror?" Jianna asked.
"I do! It's small but it should work. Here Pixle. Look. See?" Belle said.
"My eyes are green. That's my natural eye color." Pixle said.
"No it's not! Pixle, please remember!"
"Look, Skellington was it? I appreciate you.. No all of you in helping me recover from the cold, but I DON'T appreciate you guys acting this way towards me."
"What do you mean?" Jianna asked.
"Well first off, Skellington over here keeps on screaming he's my battle partner. Even if he isn't screaming it, he's giving me a dirty look."
"No I'm not!>:(" Skellington said, giving Pixle a dirty look, which is more like a scrunched up face. "What?"
"All I'm saying is I'd like to be respected a little more around here." Pixle said.
"We understand that, don't we Skellington?" Belle said.
"Yes, we understand. I'm sorry Pixle, I guess. Something is just really getting to me." Skellington said.
"Well, I hope whatever it is resolves itself soon."
"Yeah, me too."
"Okay well, now that that's out of the way, we-"
"Wait! Is my sister okay? I had gotten separated from her before." Pixle said.
"sister?"
"Are you talking about Emerald? Wait, is Emerald here?!" Skellington asked.
"Who's Emerald?" Belle asked.
"I'm sure you remember her, she went to school with us! Anyway, the last I remember, Emerald was doing some traveling for personal reasons, but it's very possible that she-"
"No, I'm not talking about Emerald!" Pixle yelled.
"Oh! So you remember her!"
"Skellington! Please. Go on baby." Jianna said.
"What did she call her?!" Belle mumbled.
"Baby? >///< Uuuh, alright! Well we were in the woods camping and next thing I know, we got separated in the storm that was building up."
"Pixle, what is your sister's name?" Skellington asked.
"Her name?! Hahahaha what is this? Some kind of joke?"
"No, it's-"
"Skellington! Lay off the relatives thing! We're going to drive Pixle away from telling us anything if you keep this up!" Belle said.
"Tch alright."
"What was the last thing you remember, Pixle?" Belle asked.
"All I remember was a flash of green and then my sister was gone." she answered.
"Flash of green?"
"Yeah. It was really pretty too, like an emerald." Pixle replied.
Then Jianna remembered Lia picking up an emerald in the garage before the wolf invasion.
"What?"
"It's nothing... I just- I need to go check on something. I'll be right back."
"Jianna, wait!... What's wrong?" Belle asked.
"Don't tell Skellington or Pixle, but I'm opening up the secret passageway again." Jianna answered.
"What? Why? It's dangerous. We sealed it up for a reason!" Belle yelled.
"I know, but I saw something there that might help us with what Pixle is going through. I just need to take a look again."
"Then let me come with you." Belle replied.
"No you need to stay here with Pixle and Skellington. Honestly the state that they are both in, they're only gonna slow me down." Jianna said.
"I understand actually, they are acting very off."
"More off for my liking. The worst part is that Christian isn't here to help with them. He's usually better at chilling with those two."
"I'm sure I can help."
"I'm counting on you. If I'm not back within two hours then you will come looking for me."
"Roger."
"Be back soon."
"Be careful" Belle said.
And Jianna went to the secret caves.
Back in the cave with Lia and Chris...
"Lia? Lia! Please... Huh, she's still breathing. There has to be something I can do."
Chris gave Lia back her jacket, and decided to leave the cave.
"Sticks... something... anything to make a fire."
He looked up and saw a loose branch.
"T-too high."
He continued looking and found an even lower branch and tried shaking it down, but when he fell to the ground he became too weak. And then he saw someone walking towards him.
"Please... the cave... help her." Then he blacked out.
Back with Skellington and Pixle...
"So what exactly set you on edge?" Pixle asked.
"Huh? Oh me."
"Uh, yeah! There's no one else here."
"Oh uh well, it's really nothing." Skellington answered.
"Seems like someone upset you. Was it Belle?" she asked.
"Uh oh no. It wasn't Belle. I guess it's more so I feel like I upset someone."
"Was it Christian?" Pixle asked.
"No, I uh don't worry about it. I'm just on edge is all." Skellington answered.
"I see. Hmm, where's Jianna? She's been gone for a while." Pixle said.
"I'm not sure."
"I'm getting a little worried. Now that I think about it, Christian-"
"Uh uh, Hey Skellington, can you get us some chicken noodle soup? That might help Pixle." Belle said.
"Oh alright. What about Jianna?"
"Oh, she's uh, in the bathroom. Don't worry, she's fine. Just uh major backup you know hehehe!" Belle answered.
"Ew, uh I didn't need to know that. I-I'll go get the soup." Skellington said leaving the table.
"PHEW" Hehehe finally we're alone together. "Hey, Pixle."
"Yeah?"
"Do you believe in ghosts?" Belle asked.
"What?"
"Like do you think they are real?"
"Well, I was actually raised by a few ghosts for a certain amount of my life, but they disappeared." Pixle answered.
"Hehehe, you were?!"
"I got the soup, Pixle. Uuuh here. Gahhh!"
"Aah!" Skellington accidentally tripped and spilled the soup all over Belle.
"Oh, Belle! I'm so sorry!" Skellington said.
"Huh? What happened?"
"Are you okay?" Pixle asked.
"Uh, yeah I'm fine. I just- I'll go get cleaned up." Belle said.
"Huh, Belle? Huh, she's been acting weird lately." Skellington said.
Back with Jianna, she was trying to find her way back to the potion room.
"There must have been something we missed while walking through here. Something about Pixle's eyes, even her zombie eye was green and they're not supposed to be. Um this way?"
Jianna went down the path that Lia and Chris had gone down earlier. There she found a mine full of emeralds.
"More emeralds? A whole mine of them. This is incredible! Hmm they avoid any kind of mystical presence the least I can sense. Augh, I feel I should know about them. Why can't I-"
Jianna noticed that her foot hit something.
"What's this? A book? It's on creating potions. I don't get it, this book was in plain sight. Christian and Lia should have seen this. Which means, it must've been moved here recently. We were right to board up the passage then. But if this book is on potions then maybe what I'm looking for is a potion room. I need to get there."
Back with Lia and Chris, Chris was starting to wake up, and when he did he saw a fire.
"Fire. I-I'm alive, but how? I- huh?"
And next to him was the stranger who was with the wolves holding Lia.
"Woah! Um, who are you?" Chris asked.
"Quiet. You'll wake her." replied the man.
"Uh, um, that's my girlfriend, so-"
"This isn't a girl, it's a woman." the man said.
"I-I know that, but what I mean to say is, what are you doing to her?" Chris asked. He realized that the man didn't understand the boyfriend and girlfriend thing.
"I'm keeping her warm. She was out cold. Any longer and she might've died." the man answered.
"W-were you the one who saved us?" Chris asked.
"Yes, but I saved her. You had her scent so I did the same for you, but she- she needed my body heat more." he answered.
"Um, I'm sure her body can do that without-"
"Why are you so tense?" the man interrupted.
"Tense?"
"Your stand seems hostile to me."
"Well, I, your, my girlfriend, is, Argh!"
"Please, let her rest. Right now, that's what she needs."
"Fine, just, is she going to be okay?" Chris asked.
"I believe so. She just needs to stay close to me."
"Argh! You're lucky I care more about her than anything else right now." Chris mumbled. "Just please, as long as she's safe."
"I can promise that.*Sniffs* She lasted a long time the way she is." said the man.
"What does that mean?" Chris asked.
"Shh, let's allow her to rest in peace."
I wanna get him off of her, but I don't know him. He could be dangerous. Anything I do to get him away from her in her state, might cost her life. Chris thought.
Back with Jianna, she was in the potion room looking at a book.
"This page was left open. Let's see... A melt and fuse potion, certain criteria, mountains, ancient mixture, PERMANENT! Emeralds with- wait this can't be right. If what I'm reading is true then, whoever is down here, have- has been experimenting with making potions that last forever."
Jianna made sure that no one heard her.
"I haven't heard of a potion lasting forever, but maybe a few weeks to a month, but- Thinking back on it, I thought potions that lasted forever were banned by the Universal Witch's Council. Which means that someone is practicing witchcraft here illegally, but why? Who needs a forever potion up here? It doesn't make any sense. Well, I should take whatever I can back to the lodge. Someone needs to know about this. That must've been what affected Pixle. Maybe if I-"
While Jianna was talking to herself, a cloaked werewolf sneaked up behind her, and knocked her out.
