sound

The sound of my heart pounding in my ears drowned out every other sound in the room.

What did Fluke mean? "Who are you?" There was no way he actually meant it, was there?

I could feel panic starting to rise as I took his hand in mine.

"Fluke, it's me. It's Ohm. Please remember me." I fought back the tears as I searched his face for any sign of recognition at all. Fluke looked back up at me with a puzzled look on his face.

"Do we know each other?" he asked, looking from me to Earth.

"Fluke, Ohm is your partner. Do you remember where we all work together?" Earth asked, placing a hand on Fluke's other arm.

Fluke closed his eyes, his face scrunched up in pain. "I...I can't remember."

I felt one tear escape my eyelids, and then another and another. I could now imagine the pain Fluke went through those months I had lost my memories. The thought of my partner, my love, forgetting everything about us was unbearable.

"Fluke," I croaked out as I brushed a stray piece of hair from his forehead with shaking fingers. I couldn't speak, couldn't think. "I love you, Fluke. Please remember," I pleaded.

I couldn't make out the expressions flashing across his features as he slowly reached toward my face...and popped me on the back of the head.

"That's for not telling me you had your memories back for a whole week," Fluke said, poking me in the chest.

I let out a shaky breath and an overwhelming wave of relief rushed over me as I eagerly pulled Fluke into my embrace, ignoring Earth's howls of laughter from the other side of the bed.

"Owowowow!" Fluke hissed in pain and I immediately released him.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Fluke! I almost forgot the doctor said you have a couple cracked ribs, a concussion, and some severe bruising but it should heal with some rest."

Fluke was silent for a minute. "Is it...is everything over?" he asked looking slightly worried, to which I responded by giving his hand a reassuring squeeze.

"Yes, everything is over," I smiled down at him.

Kao shifted in his chair to lean toward Fluke, pushing his rectangle glasses up the bridge of his nose. "B and his accomplices have all been taken into custody and the thumb drive submitted into evidence. Things could have gone much worse if it hadn't been for you and your quick thinking."

"I was running on pure adrenaline and fear," Fluke chuckled. "It was something I never wish experience again."

I ran my thumb across his cheek. "Me, neither." I stole a soft kiss from Fluke's forehead. "It was the scariest moment of my life," I said, softly, a tear sliding down my face.

"Don't cry," Fluke cooed with a smile as he caught my tear with his thumb. He gently pulled me down to press his lips to my tear-stained cheek. "It's okay. I'm here now. We're both here. We're both safe now," he whispered against my skin.

I turned his face to mine and caught his lips with my own, tasting the saltiness of our tears mixed together. The kiss wasn't hungry or desperate, like our kiss when I regained my memories, but slow and tender, overflowing with love. A love both of us were afraid we had almost lost, making it that much more precious.

"Oi! Get a room!" Earth exclaimed, bursting our moment.

"Says the man who is constantly glued to his husband," Fluke said, sticking his tongue out at Earth.

"I don't care if you're on your death bed, I will still kick your ass, Natouch," Earth retorted, raising his fists to which Fluke responded by throwing a few playful jabs, filling the room with laughter.

"They really are more like twins than best friends, aren't they?" Kao laughed, ruffling Earth's hair and I nodded.

"Brothers to the end," Fluke smiled, linking his pinky with Earth's like they had done since they were kids.

"As long as the end isn't too soon," Earth laughed.

"Don't worry. You can't get rid of me that easily, Katsamonnat."

Soon after, the doctor came in to give Fluke a check-up and I could see how tired he was starting to get.

"We should probably let Fluke rest," I said, giving Kao and Earth a knowing look and they nodded as they stood and said their goodbyes.

"We'll be back first thing tomorrow," I smiled at Fluke when Kao and Earth had left the room, but I felt a slight tug at my sleeve as I turned to leave.

I looked back down at Fluke who stared back at me with pleading eyes.

"Stay? Please?"

My heart melted at the sound of his begging tone. I slipped my jacket off and laid it across the back of a chair before sliding into the tiny bed next to Fluke and he molded himself to my side.

I had offered to leave because I thought he needed rest, but I realized when he asked me to stay that what we both actually needed was each other.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about my memories," I said quietly.

"It's alright. I know why you did it." He paused. "I probably would have done the same."

"I can't believe it's finally over," I said with a slight laugh.

"Mmm," I heard Fluke murmur against my chest. "Remember what you promised me when this was all over? You promised you would stay with me, to keep our team together?"

I smiled, tipping his chin to look up at me.

"Always," I whispered, gently brushing his lips with mine.

Fluke was finally given the all-clear to return to work after two months. I had also taken that two months to help Fluke with his recovery and to rest myself while Earth and Kao assisted other teams until we were ready. Toward the end of the two months, I could tell Fluke had started getting antsy and he practically ran to our office the first day we could go back.

"Soooo what's first on the agenda, Captain Ohm?" He asked and I chuckled as he gave his desk chair a full 360° spin. I stopped the chair by placing my hands on either arm and rested my face inches from his.

"First of all, we need to start you on your training again, Agent Natouch. Two months away is sure to have left you a little rusty. You up for a spar?" I smiled mischievously, knowing how much he loved to face me in hand-to-hand combat.

"You up for getting your ass handed to you, Agent Thitiwat?" he retorted, ducking under my arm and leading the way to the gym.

We warmed up a bit after dressing out before finally taking our stances in the middle of the sparring mat.

"Don't take it easy on me," Fluke said, giving me a knowing glance.

"Have I ever taken it easy on you, Fluke?" I raised an eyebrow.

"You always take it easy on me, Ohm. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you have a crush on me," he said, throwing a fist that I dodged.

"Now, I have no clue where you got that silly idea from," I responded by throwing a jab back at him which he caught easily.

Fluke was a little rusty after being out of practice for two months, and I admit I did pull a few punches, but he caught up quickly, matching me blow for blow until I swept his feet from under him, pinning him to the mat beneath me.

"I have a confession," I said, looking into Fluke's deep eyes. "I took it easy on you. I may have a tiny crush on you."

Fluke responded by knocking my elbow out from under me and throwing his weight into my body to flip me to my back, straddling my waist.

"I knew you would," he smirked, moving his face close to mine. "I may have a tiny crush on you, too," Fluke said, leaving the lightest peck on my lips, but I craved more.

I flipped Fluke back over to his back and crushed my lips to his, unsure if our heavy breathing was caused by the sparring or the heat of the moment. I hungrily burned a trail of kisses down Fluke's neck to his shoulder and back up to press my lips to his again. I felt Fluke's fingers dance along the nape of my neck as we breathed each other in like the only oxygen in the room existed between our lips. We separated only so I could kiss my way up his jawline but Fluke shied away as my mouth made contact with the sensitive spot behind his ear.

"Ohhhm," Fluke hissed, nervously glancing toward the door of the gym. "We're probably breaking about a million different rules right now," he chuckled.

"We already broke the Number One rule just by falling in love," I smiled mischievously, bending my head to capture his lips again. "What's a couple million more?"
