Wen Qing bought all-day passes for all of them and they entered the park together with Wei Wuxian still carrying the two kids. The first destination was the roller coaster in which the two children squealed loudly and the two young men looked excited. Wen Qing went to the store to buy food and drinks while Xue Yang was complaining about the heat.

"Goddamnit, why is today so hot of all the days…" he slumped on the bench with ice cream in his hand and cold water on the other hand. "It's a curse for us, really, I wonder how Xiao Bai could handle all this heat."

"Hmm, it's hot, but it's not that hot." Wei Wuxian observed Xue Yang closely. "Are you by any chance… a polar bear?" Of course he was teasing, but Xue Yang looked so offended by his guess, he made a gag sound and rolled his eyes.

"Don't put me in the same place with those brutes." He sounded so offended, Wei Wuxian couldn't help but chuckle. Then before he could tease him some more, the kids came back and jumped straight at him.

"Xian-gege, I want to go to the haunted house now, please?" Xiao Hei made a very cute face while Xiao Bai giggled. They looked at each other conspiratorially but it didn't escape Wei Wuxian's keen observation. He wondered what kind of prank these two kids had planned for him, but he would play along for now. After all, they looked so happy.

"Haunted house? Are you sure?" Wei Wuxian looked at the nodding boy and his heart melted. "Fine. You too, Yuanyuan?" He asked the girl who also nodded enthusiastically. She already forgot that she was acting like she didn't care anymore. She liked Wei Wuxian so much since he smelled like Xiao Hei and her uncle. And being one of the mythical beasts, she could guess roughly who Wei Wuxian truly was, and yet she said nothing to anyone. She bet that her uncle and Xiao Hei also instinctively knew already, since they were all over him like a plague. Too bad only the man himself seemed clueless of what he actually was, but she was sure that sometimes soon, he would find out. If not, she could just speed things up by riling her uncle. Or her dad. That was a so much better option.

Wei Wuxian smiled and they all walked to the direction of the haunted house.

Inside the haunted house, Xiao Hei was clutching onto his hand and screamed everytime he was being surprised by the ghosts, and so did Xiao Bai. They seemed to enjoy faking their fear and screaming just for fun, Wei Wuxian noticed.

Halfway into the haunted house, he noticed that his boot's laces were undone, so he crouched down to fix it, while the kids walked in front of him, chattering about something in their child voices. The older boys were already in front of them and Xue Yang was in the back. Wen Qing waited outside since she hated haunted houses. When Wei Wuxian looked up to see where the kids were going, he noticed that they're not where he saw them last. He quickly followed the path to the front and yet he couldn't see them until he reached Jingyi and Wen Yuan. 

"Jingyi, Wen Yuan, did you see the kids? I was just fixing my shoelaces for two seconds and they're gone." Wei Wuxian's heart started to beat faster, and for some reason he remembered the kidnapping at The Dome.

"No?" Wen Yuan shook his head and Jingyi became pale.

"I'll contact Xue Yang and Qing-jie." He quickly took out his phone and dialed them.

"I'll trace back, in case they get stuck playing with something they shouldn't." Wei Wuxian turned around and retraced his steps. He hoped that the kids went into hiding to surprise him or something like that instead of the worst case scenario.

He went back slowly, focusing on dark corners and blind spots to see if he missed something when he saw the small shoes that belonged to Xiao Hei.

"Give me that." Xue Yang suddenly appeared beside him and took the shoes then… sniffed it. 

Wei Wuxian knew immediately what kind of beast Xue Yang was, when he ran into one of the exit doors that was only for the personnel, and slammed it open. They could hear the faint cries of the children yelling from further up and they quickened their pace to follow them.

Soon after, they saw the two men who took the kids in front of them, and while Wei Wuxian took out his stun gun, Xue Yang jumped at them with one, long jump, like a wild beast that he was. He landed right in front of the attackers, who put the children inside of the bag and carried them on their shoulders. It surprised them and when they stopped, Wei Wuxian quickly snatched the bags and took them away while Xue Yang fought their kidnappers.

Wei Wuxian untied the bags and took the kids out before untying their legs and hands.

"Are you alright kids?" He checked them for any injuries, and saw Xiao Hei was crying and he hugged him, while Xiao Bai looked at the kidnappers with her golden pupils shone in the dark.

"Yuanyuan?" Wei Wuxian tried to touch her, but she growled and he flinched. He then dropped his jaw when he saw how she morphed into a familiar huge white tiger before his very own eyes. Wei Wuxian fell on his butt while still carrying the crying Xiao Hei, and Xiao Bai leaped forward toward their kidnappers, who still fought Xue Yang.

Jesusfuckingchrist! 

That white tiger in Lan Wangji's apartment turned out to be this little girl.

And although Wei Wuxian was already told about the existence of mythical beasts, hearing and seeing them with his own eyes was a totally different matter. 

It was a very beautiful, yet bone-chilling transformation, with all the little blue lightning zapped out from her huge body, and she looked very regal and dangerous at the same time. He also saw how she easily tore down the two kidnappers and he heard the sickly crunch sound of her teeth against the bones of those unsuspecting fools. He then looked at Xiao Hei, who was strangely calm in his embrace, and Wei Wuxian noticed that there was only satisfaction in his eyes, none of the fear he expected to see.

At that time, Wei Wuxian realized that this was the world of the mythical beasts, who didn't even flinch at the gore that was happening in front of them. When he was still pondering what he was doing here, he felt Xiao Hei pull his shirt closer and whisper to him.

"Don't worry, Ge, I will protect you. We will protect you." Then he smiled sweetly at Wei Wuxian, who questioned himself with the situation in front of him.

Who was supposed to protect who in this situation?
