12. Dance

HEY GUYS!

OKAY, so listen: I had inspiration and decided to write a chapter for you guys, BUT I'm still working extremely hard on Secret Agents: My Bodyguard to publish it and IT'S COMING!

There'll be a few details changed in the published book but it won't affect this spin-off in any way. For example, the 'secret organization' is no longer the CIA or anything like that. The agency is now completely fictional because that gave me more freedom. I'll tell you more when the book is published, but again, it doesn't change anything to the story. :)

SOOOO, the updates for SAMS won't be back right now, but I'm giving you this chapter today if you want to read it. I can't wait to update this story. I have a lot planned for Alex and in the future, I would love to publish her story as well.

Okay, that was a long author's note. HAPPY READING. ❤️ (grab tissues)

"Dance with me."

I smile when I hear his husky voice in my ear. Turning around, I laugh and place my arms around his neck. "What are you gonna do if I refuse?"

Enzo raises his eyebrows, wrapping his arms around my waist. "You seem pretty down, Princess."

Shaking my head, I get closer to him. The tuxedo he's wearing fits his body perfectly. He took off the tie, and for some reasons, it makes him even hotter. I run a hand through his long, soft hair.

"You're so beautiful," he murmurs, leaning his forehead against mine. "I love that dress."

I blush. A few other girls wear the same bridesmaid dress, but I didn't see him look at them the way he's currently staring at me right now. It's a floor-length dark blue dress that I automatically loved when Elena and I saw it. There's an elegant V-neck and the fabric is just so soft.

My eyes find the bride and the groom across the room. They're still dancing, and a smile forms on my lips. Elena wears a gorgeous lacy white gown open in the back. Her blonde hair is pulled into a bun, and a few flowers decorate it.

I cried twice today; before and during the wedding. I wonder if I'll have to redo my makeup a third time today.

I'm just so proud and so happy for her and Jake. She got her happy ending. I guess I got mine, too.

"They look happy," I murmur, smiling at Enzo.

He glances over his shoulder and smiles. "Yeah. Never thought he would get married first."

I raise an eyebrow. "Did you thought you would?"

"Not really. I've never really wanted to get married or even thought about the future." He pauses, his brown eyes locking with mine. "But I think I changed my mind."

My heart skips a beat.

Stay calm, Alex. He didn't propose, you're good.

Noticing my reaction, he chuckles. "Are you okay?"

I clear my throat. "Yeah, sure. Fine, okay. Yeah..."

Enzo bursts out laughing and leans down to kiss me. I smile and kiss him back with no care in the world. If I can stay happy like that forever, I will never complain about anything ever again. With Enzo, I feel so good. I feel free and happy and just myself.

Please, don't take that away from me.

Our kiss is cut short when his cellphone rings. With a sigh, he lets go of my waist and gives me an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, let me just..." His voice trails off when he sees who's calling him. I furrow my eyebrows.

"Is everything okay?"

"Yeah. I just have to take this. It might be important," he says and grabs my chin to kiss me again. "I'll be right back."

I smile. "All right."

He walks away and I turn to look around me. People are dancing, taking pictures of the new married couple and drinking champagne. My eyes stop on Wren, who's talking with another guy. He notices me and smiles, saying something to the man before he makes his way toward me.

"Hey," he says, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Who was he?" I ask, a smile on my lips.

He scratches the back of his neck. "Stop it. He is...someone who makes me happy."

I stare at him for a while, feeling emotional for some reasons. We've been through a lot together—and apart. He deserves happiness like anyone here.

"I'm happy for you," I declare sincerely.

Wren smiles and puts his arm around my shoulder. "I am happy for you, too. Where is your charming prince?"

I look around to see if Enzo is back. I smile when I notice him, but that smile falters when I see the expression on his face.

Something is going on. Elena and Jake join him, and I can't hear what they're saying. Enzo runs a hand through his hair, his whole body seems tensed and his eyes are narrowed in anger. Jake tries to tell him something, but he just walks past him, shaking his head.

My heart pounds in my chest.

"Is he okay?" Wren asks, his eyes following him as he leaves.

"I'll be right back," I say, walking away to follow Enzo. His steps are fast as if he's eager to leave.

I don't like it.

"Enzo!"

At the sound of my voice, he flinches and stops walking. I can sense Jake and Elena not so far behind, and I make my way toward Enzo.

"What's going on? Who called you? Are you—"

"Look I have to go," he cuts me off blankly, shocking me.

I take a step back unconsciously and blink at him. "What?"

Enzo sighs and looks away. His body is so tensed I'm afraid to touch him.

My lips start to tremble.

"Tell me what's going on," I murmur, trying to meet his gaze.

And then he turns his head, and his eyes meet mine.

Pain. I see the pain in them before he blinks and all is left is nothing but coldness.

"Look, I can't—I can't do that," he declares, taking a step back.

The back of my throat burns. "What...what do you mean?"

"You and I." I can't breathe. "It doesn't work. We're over."

The room tilts. I can't see properly, and I realize that tears are in my eyes, and they spill down my cheeks, and I feel like I'm choking. Someone lets out a strangled sound, and maybe that someone is me. Who knows—who fucking cares.

I shake my head, my voice shaking.  "Are you kidding me?"

He can't even look at me. He doesn't glance at me once when he turns around and walks away from me.

He takes my heart with him and leaves like he hasn't told me this morning that he loved me.

I think I say his name, but I don't hear anything. Someone puts a hand on my shoulder and I flinch. Elena says something, but I just shake my head and I run away.

I guess I'll have to redo my makeup for a third fucking time today.
