Clementine was uncomfortable to say the very least. The fire roaring, it illuminated everything from the people, to the tips of the trees. Darkness enclosing the whole group of teens. She was unsure of what was just outside the light source.

Her gaze found Audrey and her boyfriend, faces smashed together. She wondered how they could breathe. And scanning at the rest of the people, who were either doing the same, on their phones, or talking to others, she was alone.

It wasn't like she could just leave immediately. She didn't want to. She couldn't. Because her newfound friend promised to walk her back home.

Mr. Thomas would be leaving for his next business trip in a few short days. So she began to wonder if attending a bondfire was really the best idea. Her boredness growing on her thoughts and tainting them with fake excuses to ditch the party. Go home, take a nice warm shower, and sleep. Or attempt to get the smell of the one beer she decided to drink out of her mouth.

Her phone read midnight. Her head thought 'what kind of prissy rich girl goes home at twelve?' Nobody had even moved in the past ten minutes. And her butt hurt from the bark. Face hot due to the fire. Stomach churning due to the situation.

So much for a nice first night.

"Howdy." Someone sat next to her on the log and their shoulders bumped.

"Hello." Clementine lowered her head and got a good look at his face, noticing how nice looking his face delt with the orange glow.

It was only slight, but his hand rested onto her thigh, "You looked alone over here."

She froze, unable to process wether she was just over exaggerating in her head or not. If her uncomfortableness and anxiety was betraying her to think wrong. Not to mention what the people around her would do if she freaked out.

Maybe she could be overreacting. His hand might've slipped because it wasn't moving. And he wasn't bad looking. So perhaps she was just nervous. Simply too judgmental.

Scootching away from him, she gripped the rough bark on the log for some kind of relief, "I was actually just leaving."

Something seemed off then. His face grew annoyed. And his hands became fidgety.

"I can walk you out." He insisted, standing up.

Still with mixed thoughts she felt her heart pump faster than it should. Her toes curled in her shoes.

Looking around drastically at people not giving a damn, her throat sucked in all the air. Knowing she didn't want to leave. Knowing something would go terribly wrong if she did.

"I can do it myself," She nervously laughed to try and lighten the mood, "It's okay. Besides, I don't even know you."

Legs like jello. She too stood. Backing away from the man, all while veiwing the people to see if anyone cared. Wondering if she was going to be taken advantage of without a single person even knowing she was gone.

As if someone had thrown her a life preserver, the guy turned to a girl tugging at his sleeve. Short and skinny, and annoyed to say the least, she peaked around the side of him and scowled at Clementine. Her blonde hair swaying freely, tight clothing leaving nothing to the imaginination. Speechless to the argument that immediately started, Clem slowly slipped away.

Without a second thought of staying, she disappeared into the woods. Seeing her home through the trees. Her feet dragged through fallen leaves and twigs. Some scraping her bare legs without a care. It turned out to be just an awful day for her.

Trekking through the woods was quite erie. With the moon causing only strips of light through the trees. Her phone practically dead. And the initial thought that she was going to get sexually assaulted still present. She wanted to cry.

Max, playing video games for at least four hours in his bedroom. Decided that he should've gone to the bonfire. Knowing it could be the last one of the summer, he wasn't gonna let some prissy new neighbor ruin the fun. To just put her in the chest of things that annoyed him, and throw away the key.

Of course he gave no care to walk across the Thomas' front lawn to get to his destination. Sparking a thought as he passed their driveway. The annoyance box opening slightly to ask why the girl bugged him so much. He had nothing to be jealous of. So envy couldn't be it at all.

Maybe it was her looks. She was weird from the start. Nothing he expected the rich daughter to look like. Hell she was just a few inches shorter than him. She wore baggy clothing that likely hit something she didn't like about her body. And her hair was flat and boring. Suddenly realizing she wasn't wearing any makeup added on as well. He'd always seen girls wear makeup. Audrey bought it constantly, and even his mother wore a little blush to work.

He'd be crude to say she was ugly. But generous to say she was beautiful. He was probably mean. Picking apart a practical stranger in his mind based on looks.

Just entering the treeline, every footfall was met with crushed leaves. Escalating the sound he made as he tred through. Without even paying attention to anything but the illuminated area in front of him. Their voices mixed with light music still peaked over the snapping of twigs.

But, unfortunately, Clementine was deaf to anything but her thoughts. Busy thinking of what school would be like. If she could be schooled online. Or if her dad would move again. The what ifs' clouding her mind. So much to the point that she hit something soft, with a considerable amount of force. Her nose smooshed between the cotton feeling wall and her own face.

She was shoved, sent tumbling backwards after the wall turned out to be a human. Landing on her ass, and scraping her hands as they tried to cushion the fall. Quickly moving from the unearthed dirt, up to her nose.

Max stared down at the girl he just insulted in his mind, adding slamming into him into the trunk, "What the fuck. Watch where the hell you're going."

Met with quietness, he realized that he pushed her. He used his hands and propelled her back so far that she fell. Without even realizing what he did in the heat of the moment. Hs stood over top of her and quickly grabbed his phone, so he could turn on the flashlight. His lock screen only showing her clutching her face with shock.

"Are you going to speak?" He muttered as light from his cell phone showed her face, blood covering from under her hand, until her chin.

Looking at her palm, she immediately felt tears at the sign of dark red coating her skin, "Oh my- Fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck you! I'm bleeding out! Oh my god! My nose! It feels like it's broken!"

Crouching to get a better look he saw her begin to cry, "I'm so sorry- I didn't mean to be like that- you'll be oka-"

Hand outstretched, Max felt her hit it away and struggle away from him. Gaping mouth as she managed to crawl backwards with just kicking. Sobs escaped, only to be muffled.

"Don't touch me! Don't!" She propped herself up, and met eyes with Max. Scared, and angry all at once.

Only watching as she stumbled away. Was when he really put in to depth on what a shitty person he was. Injuring a girl and blaming her due to his own carelessness. Knowing full well his father would be disappointed. Gaze met the leaf ridden ground, with an opening ths size of Clementine.

It was safe to say, and do. That Maxwell wasn't going to the bonfire anymore. Silence granting him the sobs from the girl behind him. Echoing through the trees.
