Chapter 10
It's been a couple of weeks after I left, I had nothing reasonable to do within that period except to play games and kill my phone battery and also assist my roommate Beth around the house.
Beth is 28 while I am 30, she recently graduated from the university. She is a sweetheart she helped me at my breaking point when nobody was able to and I will forever be grateful to her.
My life has been complete torture ever since I left that house, I tried my best in looking for a good-paying job...but no my delusional husband had to threaten all the companies around Seattle not to hire me but to my luck, I stumbled at a local publishing house which was in dire need of a clerk and they hired me instantly.
Dave has been making my life a living nightmare because I refused to go back home with him.
Flashback:
Ding-Ding...
I arrogantly stood up from the hotel's room bed due to the irritating sound the doorbell was making.
I glanced at the time on my phone 6:30 am, seriously who in their right mind rings the bell at this time...it might be room service.
I walked to the door and opened the door revealing the people I never wish to meet again even though I die and they should come to my funeral I will make sure I make them pay by scaring the life out of them.
Dave, Cassandra, my mum and Stacy were standing at the door dressed finely and smiling for no reason but I could see through their look that they are sure up to something, I can't bet my life savings that they are up to something.
"Please why are you guys at my hotel room, so early this morning and how do you know I am at this hotel," I asked since I was confused how did they know I am actually staying at this hotel... I am sure it was Dave, obviously sending people to spy on me.
"Woman just shut up, did you think we are here to chitchat, we have come up with a decision for this whole situation," Stacy said while smirking I know she is up to something again.
"And what is that dearest mother in law?"I asked totally mocking her by referring to her as mother in law.
"We have decided to make you a nanny for my unborn child" I heard a familiar voice since I was facing Stacy I decided to turn around to look at the fool who suggested that and behold it was ...Dave.
"I'm sorry my cheating husband I'm not ready to be a nanny or a caretaker to your mistress baby, how are you sure the baby is even yours because I sure kno__"
"Harriet!" my mother shouted since I was basically referring to her daughter as a slut.
"Please if you guys are done cause I'm done, close the door on your way out, "I said basically ignoring my mum.
"I'm starving I really need to request for room service," I said while walking to where my suitcase was to take a comfortable clothing from it.
"Harriet I'm going to make you pay for not coming back home with me," Dave said in anger, I know if it was possible he would have dragged me out of this hotel with him.
After that was said they left but not before Dave slamming the door shout loudly.
End of flashback.
*Present*
"Harriet!!!" I heard someone yelling my name which was obviously coming from my favourite roommate in the world*hint the sarcasm*
I groaned loudly into my pillow due to the yelling, can't someone have a nice sleep for once, I stood up straight... instantly the sunlight met my eyes someone must have opened the curtains and I know the fellow person... Beth.
I rubbed the remaining sleep off my eyes and let out a thunderous yawn I made my way to the bathroom for a quick shower.
I tied my hair in a messy bun, wore a flare gown since today was Saturday and I had no work today.
I am meeting my dad today it has been really long I met him and he has been requesting to see me for a very long time.
I walked down the stairs to be welcomed with the amazing smell of pancakes, the smell is heavenly.
Beth was already seated on the breakfast table dishing up for both of us.
"Morning" I greeted and she smiled and went back to dishing up breakfast which consisted of toast, bacon, scrambled eggs, sliced tomatoes and juice.
Seriously, this girl is a darling as if she knew that I was hungry.
"Harry-boo-boo-dear," she said while grinning I simply rolled my eyes at her immaturity.
"When are you going to stop calling me that you are making me feel like a teddy" I protested jokingly.
"Uhm" Beth posed to think for a minute and then replied"when I'm married" her face showed regret for me since marriage was a touchy subject for me.
We went on with breakfast while discussing different topics and subjects which included the latest gossip, hot celebrities and actors.
"Beth I'm going to see my dad after breakfast he has been requesting to see me for a very long time"
"No problem, just take care of yourself"
*T.I.M.E S.K.I.P.*
After 20minutes of driving, I pull up at the driveway of the restaurant, I quickly got out of the car, turned off the engine and made my way to the front door of the restaurant to find a comfortable chair to sit.
I sat at a table which was beside the door so that I could easily know when he comes in.
I was going through my phone when I heard the front door opening and after a few seconds closing again. I turned around and saw my dad making his way to the table.
"There she is my favourite person in the world" he opened his hands wide, I immediately ran straight to him embracing him tightly.
"Harriet I am so happy you decided to come to see me," he said as we broke from the hug.
"Same here dad"I kissed his cheek and after that, we sat down, to begin with, our long conversation.
"Harriet how have you been?" he asked me
"Dad I'm actually doing great"I replied but I know I was far from doing well, I don't want him to get worked about my marital issues instead he should be worried about himself.
"Dear how is work going?" he asked while stretching his hand to pick up the menu which was lying on the table.
"Everything is going well, I am actually a clerk at a publishing firm"I replied with a genuine smile, working at the publishing firm has been the best decision of my life because we are all treated as one big family even though some are higher in terms of positions.
"Dear you know I will have appointed you as the H.O.D if you had informed me," he said sadly.
"Dad there is no need to be sad since I didn't come work for you"
A few minutes of silence, the waiter returned with our orders, we ate in comfortable silence. We also discussed a little bit, later we discovered several hours have gone by so we decided to call it a day.
The incident that happened this evening disturbed my inner peace I tried my best to cry but to no avail...it was almost as if my tear sack was fed up with me shedding my tears over useless things.
I can't find it in me to even stay in this house, precisely this city since he obviously knows where I live he would stop at nothing to force me into becoming a nanny for his unborn child...for crying out loud the child isn't even born and he is already seeking a caretaker.
Flashback:
Ding ding...
"I am coming, please hold for a minute,"I said while switching on the gas which I had intended on using in the preparation for dinner for Beth and me.
Ding ding...
I heard the irritating sound of the bell, approaching the front door I yelled and said"I'm coming"I opened the door and came face to face with the most annoying human being in this world.
"Won't my lovely wife usher me in?" he asked obviously mocking me.
"I see no husband of mine only a cheat of a man" I replied.
"Dave, what are you doing here? It high time I get a restraining order against you, why can't you just stay away from me"
"Baby" I look at him with disgust when he uttered it but he was not bothered with my look he kept on speaking"I am going to make you pay for the money, time and other things I spent when we were dating, courting and marriage"
He put his hands into his pocket and brought out a white envelope"this a token for you my love" after that was said he turned his back to me and walked toward the front door and closed the door.
The white envelope was still in my hand, I went to the couch and sat down to find out what was in the envelope.
I tore the envelope, which was preventing me from seeing the content of the letter.
