Stacking Secrets
✯✫Stacking Secrets✫✯
Have you ever slept on secrets?
Have you felt them in your skin?
Have you heard them calling at your door?
And have you let them in?
Once upon a time there lived
A prince with much to hide
And he decided that his princess
Must be perfectly bona fide
Because if she wasn't
If she found his many secrets
She might spill it to the world
And take advantage of his weakness
But every princess that he tested
Failed to prove themselves
They either screamed and hid from him
Or told somebody else
After many princesses
He finally gave in
"I will die alone," he said
"Because of my past sins."
But that very night, he heard
A knock upon his door
And so he stood up
And he walked across the floor
When he turned the knob
His jaw dropped open wide
There stood a beautiful maiden
On the other side
He ordered a feast to be prepared
For she had made quite a journey
And he went to prepare the test
To see if she was trustworthy
First he stacked his secrets
Up as high as he could
Between them were mattresses
And beneath, a frame of wood
Then he went to the dining room
And joined them in the feast
And as the maiden talked
His interest increased
She spoke of her own kingdom
Miles and miles away
How she had come to find him
How she had trekked for days
Her eyes sparkled brown
As she told him all of this
And the smile on her face
Brought a smile to his
But soon the food was finished
And she stood up from the table
He thought of the test awaiting her
Would she be able?
He led her to her chamber
To the bed stacked high with bones
And she opened her voice to speak
In the loveliest of tones:
"Why thank you, my dear prince
You really are too kind
I've fallen quite in love with you
Even in this short time
I hope for many years with you
And a future, bright ahead
But for now I say goodbye
And we shall go to bed."
The prince held her for a moment
Hoping against hope she would pass
He gave her a soft kiss
And said goodnight to the lass
He slept fitfully, that night
Tossing to and fro
How was the princess tonight?
And how would the morning go?
Meanwhile, down the hallway
The princess stared with fear
At the wall of lies and secrets
Constructed by her dear
But she thought of his lovely face
Of the love for him she felt
She thought of his loving eyes
And her heart began to melt
So she slept that night without trouble
Atop the stack of secrets
And the next morning when he proposed
She immediately gave her allegiance
Because in the kingdom of secrets and lies
She is queen, he is the king
And she has learned, if you love someone enough
You can ignore anything.
