-Chapter Two-
Seth
Goddess...she's beautiful.
My eyes flicker over the she-wolf in front of me, her sweet scent stirring my blood.
~Mate. Mine.~ Damien growls with me, both of us taking in her lithe body, her tan, gray and cream colored fur ruffled and soft. Fierce gold eyes gleam bright as she curls her lips back to show sharp teeth.
It's not until she crouches low, and an angry snarl leaves her muzzle that I realize my Beta and four other wolves are going into attack position.
Tyron, my Beta, moves first, and my mate wastes no time before tackling him to ground. Snarling and snapping at each other for a minute before my mate sinks her teeth into his leg, catching him off guard as she tosses him to the ground. The twins immediately go for it next, and that's what finally snaps me from my trance.
Fury floods my thoughts, and I let out a growl of my own. The members of my pack immediately halt their actions.
"That's enough!!" I order as I continue to move towards my mate. Her movements are cautious as she moves beside a red haired girl, keeping an untrusting eye on Tyron in general.
~Seth, they're rogues.~ Tyron informs me. I don't care.
~Mine.~
Confusion and surprise fill his thoughts.
~Which one?~
~The she-wolf that tossed your ass.~
~That's a she-wolf!?! I've never seen a female wolf this big!~
I grunt in response, though he does have a point. Our wolves vary in size, the stronger they are the taller they are. But even so, most she wolves run on the shorter side. My mate must be really strong, considering she is the same size as a Beta wolf that's easily 6 feet tall.
Seeming to feel my gaze, her head turns towards me, and our eyes lock. Her hackles lower a bit as she stares, her nostrils flaring as she inhales my scent. I watch as her eyes widen, desire, surprise, and confusion flicker through them rapidly. Why does she look so conflicted?
~Shift back, all of you. And put some clothes on, no flashing my mate.~
All of them duck behind the trees to shift and pull on some pants. Leaving me to stare at my mate and the red headed she wolf beside her. Running her fingers through the fur on her shoulder, I can't help but be jealous of the redhead. Damien is practically clawing at my chest to get out, wanting nothing more than to shift and rub our scent all over our mate.
Tyron and the others return quickly, observing the two girls carefully.
"I suppose we should start with introductions." I start, and the redhead steps forward, my mate moving with her, still on guard.
"My name is Adrienne, and this is my sister Katrina."
Katrina. Beautiful.
I clear my throat, looking at Tyron.
"I'm Beta Tyron, of Red Fang. And this is Alpha-"
"Seth." I interrupt him, staring directly at Katrina as I do. She shifts her body in an attempt to hide the shiver that rolls down her spine, and I can't help but smirk when she shifts her eyes away from mine nervously. She's craving closeness as well, which makes me even more impatient to touch her.
"I apologize for my Beta's actions, we've recently had some trouble with rogue attacks, so our pack is on high alert."
Adrienne shakes her head.
"It's fine, I probably shouldn't have gone chasing after that rabbit when I was so close to your territory."
Katrina huffs, rolling her eyes at her sister, and Adrienne snaps her head toward her in response, an irritated expression on her face.
"Don't start with me sis! I was hungry!"
Katrina gives her a look.
"Like you've never followed your instinct to hunt."
Katrina huffs again, and I can't help but wonder how they're communicating with one of them not talking.
"So I'm the only one who gets in trouble, huh? If I recall, there was a certain deer incident that involved you-"
Katrina cuts her off with a low growl.
"Oh, hit a nerve did I?"
I clear my throat to catch their attention.
"Are we missing something here?"
Adrienne blinks then gasps.
"Oh, right. We still have our mind link. We don't understand why we do, but we don't question it too much."
Katrina grunts.
"I know, I know. I'm sorry for scaring you."
Katrina nudges her shoulder.
"If you don't mind me asking, could you shift back?" I ask, more out of wanting to see her human form than anything else. Except maybe hearing her voice.
"Yeah Kat, why don't you shift ba- ohh."
"What is it?" I question, and Adrienne clears her throat nervously.
"Gold eyes. Katrina's not in control right now, Ziva is."
"Who's Ziva?" Tyron asks, confused for some odd reason.
"Her wolf, dumbass, try to keep up." The redhead retorts with a 'duh' tone.
Tyron growls irritably at her sass, while Damien and I mull Ziva's name around in our heads.
"Ziva, can I have Kat back? The fights over now."
The large wolf points her muzzle towards her sisters leg, which I now notice is covered in dried blood. Then looks towards Tyron and the others threateningly, and I understand the distrust.
"I promise, it's fine. I know he may have threatened me and hurt my leg but-"
A sharp snarl rips through my mates throat, and she starts to launch herself at Tyron in anger, I can practically feel the fury rolling off of her in waves. Adrienne jumps back in front of her, pressing her hands against her chest in an effort to hold her back.
"You didn't know that, hehe, oops."
Tyron shifts back nervously, which only brings another growl from my angry mate. I don't have to have mind link with her to know that she's contemplating killing him.
"Ziva, Ziva, look at me. I'm fine, it's already healed, look."
After some convincing, she finally looks down at the girls leg, seeing that it is no longer bleeding. Adrienne sighs in relief, and smiles.
"See, it's all good. Can I have Katrina back now?"
Taking a moment, she closes her eyes, taking deep breaths as her hackles fall back down. Ears going into a relaxed position, she raises her head slowly and opens her eyes once again.
Goddess, just when I thought she couldn't be more beautiful. Deep, violet eyes replace the gold ones, striking against her fur. I've never seen this color in eyes before, and leaves me speechless.
"There she is, better now?"
Katrina barks in response.
"Good, remember why we're here?"
She nods, and I notice her eyes flicker to me for a split second.
"Why are you here?" Tyron asks curiously, an edge to his voice. I already know the answer, it's so obvious.
"Well..." She hesitates, so I take the opportunity to ask some questions of my own.
"What pack are you from?" I throw out first, thinking it might be better to start from there.
Katrina gently nudges Adrienne's shoulder, and she sighs.
"Blue Mountain."
My eyes widen. I know that pack well, Alpha Alex and I are on good terms.
"Why did you leave the pack?"
Katrina's ears droop slightly before returning to normal. What made her sad?
"My mate...rejected me."
I turn to the red head, and notice the sadness in her tone. Katrina whines a bit, a surprised look in her expression as she silently communicates with her sister.
Rejection isn't very common among our pack, in fact the only cases of rejection in our pack were with wolves that have human mates. Rejection between two wolves is almost unheard of.
"It's okay sis, it'll be okay." She sighs before turning back to me.
"He's part of our old pack, so I'd see him everyday with the one he rejected me for..."
She takes a deep breath, a little shaky.
"I couldn't live with that so, I decided to leave the pack...but I couldn't convince Katrina to stay."
I honestly don't blame her, a lot of wolves have gone insane from rejection. The pain they go through is almost unbearable.
"How long has it been since you left?"
"Four years."
Katrina presses her muzzle against Adrienne's shoulder in comfort.
"Our pack is open to new members, you are welcome here."
I watch the silent exchange between the two, focusing more on Katrina's body language than her sister. She was already proving to be protective, loyal and close to maternal in her actions. Not many wolves would be willing to sacrifice their home and life in the pack the way she has, even if it was their family. Three years of living as a rogue to make sure her sister stayed safe...and sane. She will be an excellent Luna, I can feel it.
"This isn't just about me Kat, it's your life too."
I tune back into the conversation quickly.
"Don't you miss the pack life? Don't you wanna be a warrior wolf again?"
A warrior wolf? Hmm, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, she took down my Beta with almost no effort.
"C'mon sis, be selfish, pleeeeaaasse?"
She puts on what can only be described as a puppy dog face, and my mate lets out a sound between a whine and a growl. The girl beams, and bows to me respectfully.
"We'd be honored to accept your invitation, Alpha Seth."
"It's no problem, and please just call me Seth."
I make a point of looking directly at Katrina as I say it, watching her reaction. She shifts nervously again, before trotting off through the trees.
"Where is she going?" I almost let a whine out at the sight of her leaving. Damn, it hasn't even been an hour yet and I'm already clingy.
"To shift back...and get our bags we dropped. She'll be back."
I can't lie and say that I wasn't disappointed that she didn't shift in front of me, then again, I have no desire to let any other male see her like that...so I suppose that can wait for another time. I turn to Adrienne in curiosity, a question coming to mind.
"You said she was a warrior in her old pack, what did she do exactly?"
"She was in charge of training, especially the new recruits. She gave a good butt kicking to the ones who assumed she was weaker."
She can't stop her laughter as she reminisces, and I chuckle along lightly. I can imagine her kicking the asses of cocky new warriors, and training them to exhaustion. She could probably straighten up the rowdiest of werewolves with just a growl.
"She's scared quite a few out of the warrior life, poor kids."
"You do realize I can hear everything you're saying, right sister?" A voice calls out, and a shiver rolls down my spine. I look left to where Katrina disappeared and about lose my self control, biting back a growl as I take in what can only be my mates beautiful form, my eyes tracing over every one of her generous curves.
The jeans she's wearing fit snugly around her shapely legs and thighs, and accentuate the wide flair of her hips. Tan skin is exposed by the tank top that shows her midriff, and it too clings snugly to her voluptuous body.
Full, pink lips and a small nose accompany those violet eyes, which are returning my gaze equally. I finally fall onto the golden brown locks of her long hair, pulled into a thick braid that reaches the middle of her back. And I can't help but linger on them for a second before returning to her eyes.
I watch her eyes darken slightly as I continue to stare unashamedly, and bite back another growl as I dig my fingernails into my palms. My goddess she's going to get me into trouble, and she hasn't said a word to me yet.
I'm going to need every bit of willpower I have to get through today.
