-Chapter Twenty Three-
"Oh my goddess, you're pregnant!"
She pulls me into a hug, her own rounded tummy pressing lightly against mine, and much more noticeable on her slimmer figure. And as I'm still trying to process the news myself, she automatically pulls out of the hug to look at me with a serious face...a complete 180 to the ecstatic smile I saw just before she hugged me.
"You need to get an ultrasound. Right now."
She wastes no time in dragging me out of the bathroom and to the hallway, and I stumble a bit as she only moves faster. Moving through the slightly crowded hallways, Adri huffs in impatience.
"Move it people! Pregnant Luna coming through!" She announces loudly, and as the people part out of our way I catch sight of Seth's parents coming down the hallway with little Avery in tow, still looking a bit sleepy wrapped in her blanket.
"Did I hear you correctly Adrienne?" His mom Haley asks, her expression stunned to say the least.
"Yep! Follow me!" She replies, continuing to lead me to another room, and the female doctor in there looks up in surprise.
"Adrienne? You don't have another appointment until next week, is there something wrong?" She asks worriedly.
"No, I'm fine Dr. Bell. But my sister here needs an ultrasound stat." She answers, and the doctor looks at me in surprise.
"Luna? Of course, right away! Just lie down here please." She gestures towards the table, and I lay down on my back as she preps the machine.
"Can you tell me what symptoms you've had Luna?" She asks as she raises my shirt and begins spreading the cold gel on my stomach.
"Umm...nausea, headaches, weird cravings-"
"I'll say, you've been eating jolly ranchers and green peppers, which you hate, and five minutes ago the smell of black coffee made you physically sick. Not to mention you haven't been sleeping well and eating enough." Adrienne interrupts, and I catch the worried looks of Seth's parents when I give my sister a look.
"Why didn't you come to me sooner Luna?" Dr. Bell asks as she presses the device to my belly, and I sigh.
"Because I chalked it up to stress...I've been so consumed with Seth that I didn't even think I could be pregnant..."
~Why didn't you say anything about this? You're supposed to know these kind of things.~ I ask my wolf, and she huffs.
~I'm in the same boat as you girl, you aren't the only one worried about our mate.~
"Well...you are definitely pregnant Luna...and they look quite healthy too." She murmurs, and I freeze.
"They...?" I repeat, and she grins.
"Yes, they...you see?" She turns the screen towards me, and my breath catches in my throat. Two palm sized fetuses move on the screen, their tiny faces noticeable despite the blurry image...
I'm pregnant...with twins.
"Now, considering both you and Seth have Alpha blood, and the development of these little pups...I'd say you're about five weeks into a four month pregnancy. Which would put conception around October 13...does that sound right?" She turns to me, and I do the math correctly too...and it's right. Which means I got pregnant the day that Seth left for Blue Mountain...a week before he was hurt.
"Yes...that's right." I answer, and she nods. Then I see Avery climb up the table to sit next to me, wide awake and extremely curious.
"What does pregnant mean?" She asks, and I mull it around a minute trying to find the best explanation.
"It means that in a few months you're going to be a big sister to those two pups." I explain, and her eyes widen in excitement.
"Are they going to be little brothers or little sisters?" She questions with a little bounce.
"Well honey, it's a little early to tell if they are boys or girls...but I can say it's either two boys or two girls since they are identical." Dr. Bell explains before I do, "and I can let you listen to this."
She presses a button and the room is suddenly filled with the sound of two strong little heartbeats accompanying my own, and I close my eyes and listen with a slight smile on my face...the joy that sends a warm feeling through my chest is only marred by the fact that Seth isn't here to share this moment with me...
"I'm going to have you start prenatal vitamins, and schedule future appointments. Please Luna, try to eat properly and get enough sleep, and avoid unnecessary stress...your physical health impacts your babies health, so it's important that you take care of yourself." Dr. Bell instructs, and I open my eyes and nod.
"Which means you start spending less nights at the hospital and actually sleeping in your bed." Adrienne says with a raised eyebrow, and before I can even argue Seth's mother puts a hand on my knee.
"We insist, you don't need to be running yourself ragged. I'll stay by his side when you can't dear, you need to focus on taking care of yourself and those future grandpups of mine." She insists with a smile.
"And with the Beta, Gamma and Delta all pitching in, we can help take care of the pack until my son wakes up." His father points out, and I sigh...not planning on arguing too much.
"We'll be all together soon momma, don't worry." Avery smiles, and I sniff a little as Dr. Bell hands me a print out of the ultrasound.
"I have a feeling you're right munchkin."
Seth
It's like a fog has been lifted from my brain...I don't know how long I've been lost in it, but it's finally gone. I take advantage of my clear headedness to try and open my eyes...the muscles of my fingers and toes twitching, are shortly followed by the ones in my arms and legs before I reach the ones in my face...and when I finally pry my eyes open, I'm met with the sight of blinding lights.
Where the hell am I?
I think to myself as I blink against the light until my eyes adjust, and one good look around the room tells me that it is definitely not my bedroom.
~No shit Sherlock...~ My wolf grumbles irritably, he too finally waking up from his daze.
~Stuff it, Watson.~ I grumble back, shifting with a grunt in the hospital bed as I glance around the room, the wires hooked up to me making it difficult to move. Why the hell am I here again? My last memory is seeing my beautiful angels scared face before my vision went to black...and other than overall stiffness the only thing that's bothering me is my shoulder...
As I shift again the wire in my arm pulls against me, giving me a sharp sting that makes me growl...and my sharp inhale fills my nose with not just the scent of bleach...but my mates sweet aroma...she's here...
Just as that thought enters my mind, my angel walks out of the bathroom, her arms holding what I assume are dirty clothes while she's wearing one of my long sleeved shirts and a pair of her lounge pants, her long hair pulled up in a messy bun...looking just as beautiful despite looking a bit tired.
"You always look good in my shirts Angel..." I murmur, my voice hoarse from disuse. Her body freezes before she slowly looks up at me, her eyes widening in utter disbelief as she stares at me...watering a little as her lip quivers.
"Seth...?" She asks with a shaking voice, cracking with obvious emotion.
"Right here baby." I reply, and the sound of her choked sob nearly undoes me as she drops her clothes and immediately comes to my side, her cries muffled as she embraces me and buries her head in my neck. I return her embrace as best as I can considering my stiffness and multitude of wires, running a hand up and down her back as her tears dampen my skin.
"It's okay angel, it's okay." I whisper soothingly, not liking her crying in the slightest.
"You've been asleep so long...I thought you were never going to wake up." She presses her mouth to mine before I can ask anything, capturing me in a deep kiss that I return. She presses her hands to my cheeks as she pulls away, and I brush my hand through the loose tendrils of her hair as she stares directly into my eyes.
"Don't you ever scare me like that again." She says fiercely.
"Yes ma'am..." I reply, and she chuckles just like I hoped she would.
"I've missed you Seth...Goddess knows I've missed you..." She murmurs, and I remember my question.
"How long...how long have I been out?" I ask, only pausing to cough, and she brings me a cup full of ice water for me to drink.
"You've been in a coma for over a month..." She answers, and I nearly choke on my water. A month?! I've been dead to the world for that long? No wonder she's so relieved....
Wait...a month? That means...
"I missed your birthday..." I finish out loud, and her smile confuses me momentarily.
"You did...but you still managed to give me the best present." She reaches beside me to grab the soft thing I felt against my arm, and I recognize the plush bunny as she sits it on my lap...Avery's bunny Mr. Ears...
"Of course...Avery..." I murmur, only to perk up my head at the sound of tiny running footsteps.
"Daddy!!!" The little curly haired munchkin cries as she flies into the room, and my heart squeezes a bit as she attempts to climb into my bed, which she finally does after my mate helps her.
"I missed you." She mumbles as she nuzzles her cheek against my neck, and a content purr rumbles from my chest as I hold her close, her lilac scent calming me down.
"I missed you too pumpkin." I reply, literally feeling my wolf wag his tail inside my head as we hold our pup.
"I knew Mr. Ears would help you wake up!" She beams proudly, and I chuckle as she sits up on my lap while holding said bunny. So cute...
"Baby!!!" Another voice yells, and I can already tell that it's my mother before she even clears the door.
"Hey mom-" Is all I manage to get out before she squeezes me into a hug, and I flinch as her tight hold reaches my shoulder.
"Mom...mom, I would like to breathe..." I gasp out, and then sigh as she lets me go.
"Sorry baby, I was just so worried." She apologizes, rubbing her eyes to remove the tears.
"We all were son, you gave us a scare." Dad says, a relieved smile on his face. It stays silent for a moment before the sound of more footsteps reach my ears, and this time it's my mates sister that clears the door.
"Have you told him yet?!" Adrienne yells excitedly as she enters my room, and she quickly followed by her mate Ezekiel with a worried expression.
"Dove please slow down, you don't need to be so worked up." He insists, and his entrance is followed by that of my Beta Tyron and even Gamma Marcus and his mate Marigold. Their excited and knowing faces only making me more curious about what Adri said.
"Tell me what?" I ask with a raised eyebrow, feeling like I'm the only one who's oblivious to an inside joke...or secret. Katrina squeezes my hand reassuringly with a barely contained smile on her face.
"You're going to be a dad." She says while handing me a small envelope, and I'm a little confused at first considering Avery's adoption makes me her father...but when I open the envelope and pull out its contents...all I can do for a couple of minutes is stare.
"Seth...baby, you in there?" My mate murmurs, but I'm still too focused on the blurry image of the black and white picture in my hand, my heart feeling like it's going to implode from this much happiness.
"You're...you're pregnant?" I ask with a dazed voice, and she chuckles while nodding her head.
"I found out a week ago...I'm a month and a half along-" I interrupt and pull her face to mine eagerly for a kiss, ignore the whistles as I reveal in the perfection of my mate, my daughter, and my future twin pups.
