034.

SCARLETT was already at the dojo by the time Robby got there. He smiled brightly at her as he walked in and she returned it giving him a small wave. Tory let out a groan, "God, you two are actually disgusting."

"No, we're not. We're cute," Scarlett argued, holding the bag tighter as it pushed against her with the force of Tory's punch.

"Have you guys said the 'L' word yet?" the blonde asked.

Scarlett shook her head, though her cheeks dusted a light shade of pink, "God no. We've only been together a few months. And we took a bit of a hiatus remember."

"Oh. You guys are so sappy, I'd assumed you had."

"Don't you think I would've told you?" Scarlett asked, shifting her face to look at her with a raised brow. Tory was her best friend and probably the closest one she'd ever had. She used to consider Moon and Aisha close friends but they'd always been more Sam's friends than hers and the latter had moved to a new school earlier that year after the school fight. And then she'd met Tory and the blonde had quickly become the person she'd confided in about her troubles.

"People can keep secrets, Letty," Tory replied.

"Not about that. What about you and Kyler? Did you ever say the 'L' word?" Scarlett asked.

"Eh, sort of. It was kind of rushed and... drunken. Probably why we didn't stay together long," Tory shrugged, kicking the bottom of the bag, "It's probably a good thing you haven't said it yet. Take it slow. Besides, I don't want to see you or Robby hurt. You guys are my best friends."

"Yeah," Scarlett said wistfully as she looked at Robby smiling with Miguel. God, he was so cute.

She snapped out of it as Eli and Demetri called out, "Hey, guys gather around. We've got something to show you."

The group of karate students gathered and the boys went to get their senseis. They came back a moment later and stood in front of them with an easel. Whatever was on it was covered with a sheet, obscured from view.

"It's been a long road, but we're finally all on the same side," Eli said, "And as a reward? The toughest test any of us have ever had to face."

"The Sekai Taikai is the most prestigious karate tournament in modern martial arts history. For over a century, fighters from across the globe have gathered every two years to compete for the title of World's Best," Demetri continued.

"If the All Valley is March Madness, this is the Olympics, plus the gladiator games and the Kumite from Bloodsport all rolled into one."

"If we win—" Demetri began before Eli cleared his throat. He corrected himself, "Excuse me. When we win the spoils will be life-changing."

"But it's gonna take all of our focus and all the wisdom our senseis have to offer."

"Yes, which is why we decided to take at least one thing off your plates. Coming up with our new dojo name."

"Yes! After some spirited brainstorming and ad hoc focus grouping and also a dojo-wide vote, we have a winner," Eli said. Scarlett grimaced, hoping it wasn't the one she had rooted against. The boys turned to the board, "We give you..."

They pulled the sheet down and exclaimed, "Miyagi Fang Karate!"

Scarlett's jaw dropped. The exact one she didn't want was what they'd chosen. It was a bad animation of Mr. Miyagi's face, which was massive on his tiny body that had wings. Fire was coming up underneath him as he did the famous kick that had won Daniel his first championship.

"Oh. My. God," she muttered, turning to hide her laughs in Robby's shoulder as some of the students clapped and cheered, Johnny included. Her father did not look happy and soon enough he dragged the two senseis into the building.

Scarlett turned to Robby, "So how was your first day back?"

"It was good. People didn't stare too much."

"Because they don't recognise you with your better haircut," Scarlett retorted teasingly, tugging at a strand of his brown hair.

"Hey it was the fashion at the time," he protested.

"At the time was forty years ago," she snickered.

Robby paused, "You know sometimes you're kind of mean to me. I'm getting bullied by my own girlfriend."

"It comes with the job," Scarlett shrugged, a smile blooming on her face. Their senseis returned to them and announced they were having a fight between Johnny and Chozen. So, they ushered the kids out without training for the day, letting them off early.

After changing quickly, Miguel suggested they could go to the arcade. Scarlett and Robby were down and the girl invited Tory as well.

Once Tory realised Sam was going, she whispered to Scarlett, "You didn't tell me Sam and Miguel were going?"

"I didn't realise it was a problem," Scarlett frowned, "If you don't want to join, I understand."

"No, it's not that. It's just... I don't really feel like fifth-wheeling you guys. If it was just you and Robby it would be fine, because I'm close with you and close with him. But Sam and Miguel... it's sort of awkward because I dated Miguel and hated Sam," Tory sighed.

"Right."

The two stared at each other for a moment and Scarlett raised her brows in silent questioning. Tory's shoulders dropped, tension leaving her body quickly, "Fine. I'll come."

"Yay," Scarlett muttered, linking her arm through the blonde's and pulling her off toward Sam's car.

The ride was filled with a tense silence as the two sat in the back with Robby, Sam driving and Miguel in the passenger seat. But it quickly dissipated as they arrived and went inside. Tory's mood seemed to lighten as she watched her two best friends hold hands and Scarlett pull Robby off to the nearest game she was sure she could beat him at.

Eventually, the five reconvened at a punch counter and Miguel and Robby— being typical boys— decided to see if they could beat the highest score of 822.

The three girls stood on the side as they watched Miguel go up first, hitting an impressive 795. Robby went next and scored 839. Miguel chuckled as Robby turned to them with a smile, "It's all in the legs."

"Well congrats on your rather average leg strength, sir," Miguel joked.

"All right, who's next?"

"I'm good."

"Pass."

"Me too."

"Okay. What about the batting cages? I heard there's a new fast pitch," Miguel offered.

"Sure," Sam spoke.

"Sounds fun," Tory added, sounding bored. Scarlett glanced at her and sighed softly. She was having fun for a while as they tried to get a stuffed bear from the claw game and shot aliens with guns. But it seemed when she was around Sam, she was unhappy.

The blonde walked off, ahead of them and Scarlett and Tory followed quickly. Robby spoke to her quietly, "We need to figure something out."

"I know. Tory's mood drops whenever she's near Sam."

"Come on," he pulled her along as they caught up with the blonde, "It was Miguel's idea. He thought it might help you guys stop avoiding each other."

"I'm not avoiding her," Tory responded with a shrug. The couple looked at her with matching looks of disbelief, "Okay, fine. You know we've been enemies since the day we met. And now I'm training in her dad's backyard, learning the exact opposite of everything I've ever been taught. It's weird."

"Look, Tory, I know she isn't the easiest person to get along— trust me I live with her— but can you please give her a chance?" Scarlett asked.

"Things are gonna be different now, so..." Robby cut himself as he stared at something ahead of them. The girls followed his line of sight.

"He's still not talking to you?" Tory asked.

"No," Robby shook his head, "I've got to give it another shot. He needs to know there's another way besides the shit Silver was feeding him."

"You've got this," Scarlett said, kissing him on the cheek. As she rubbed away her lipgloss she muttered jokingly, "At least here he can't send you to voicemail."

"I'm gonna be right back," Robby said.

Scarlett gave him an encouraging smile and the four waited around for him to come back. Miguel spoke up, "Do you guys want to get ice cream?"

"Please," Scarlett said. She hoped the tension would ease but it only seemed to grow as Miguel came back with one large ice cream pot with three different flavours, "What the hell is that?"

"I thought we could share. Maybe it'll make them bond," Miguel shrugged as they walked back over to the table Sam and Tory had settled at.

"You're an idiot," Scarlett deadpanned as she took her seat across from him. The two ate quietly and their eyes flicked between the girls beside them. Scarlett gave Miguel a wide-eyed look, silently telling him to make conversation.

He only shrugged and she sent him a glare. Clearing his throat, he started, "So, I mean, it's our senior year, right? College is right around the corner. Kinda crazy."

"Yeah, I mean, it does feel just like yesterday that we were dissecting fetal pigs and now we're planning our futures between training every day. There are just so many good schools to choose from," Sam expressed. Scarlett's eyes closed in exasperation. She could already tell this was a terrible topic to bring up, "I'm just a little overwhelmed if I'm being honest. But it'll be easier once you've heard back from Stanford."

Miguel smiled, "Fingers crossed. What about you, Tory?" Scarlett made a little cutting out motion but he'd already asked the question.

"It's kinda hard to get in anywhere when you spent almost a year on probation," Tory smiled sarcastically as she reminded them.

Scarlett sunk into her seat as Miguel muttered, "Right." He clearly didn't know what to say after that.

They finished off the ice cream, once again in silence and Scarlett spotted Robby's floppy hair and made her way over. As she did, Kenny and another guy were walking away from him. She touched his shoulder and gave him a concerned look.

"You know that guy?" Miguel asked.

"It's Kenny's brother. We met in juvie. He told me to leave Kenny alone," Robby shrugged.

"You're not gonna listen to him, right?" Tory asked.

"Do whatever you need to do. We'll have your back," Sam said. The two girls shared a look and nodded. Sam and Tory seemed to have finally come to a semblance of an agreement.

"Okay. We're there for you, man," Miguel said.

They walked out to the batting cages and saw Kenny and his brother there. Scarlett gave her boyfriend an encouraging little shove toward them as the other four stayed back. They watched them interact and could see the brewing fight.

It bubbled over quickly when Kenny's brother —Shawn— shoved Robby backwards.

"Here we go," Scarlett murmured.

The fight started quickly with Shawn throwing the first punch and Robby blocking him swiftly. Kenny got into the mix too and Miguel went off to help him first. He swept Shawn's leg, causing him to fall and striking against Kenny who'd gotten up.

"We don't want to fight," Miguel said as the three girls walked forward.

Kenny reached for the bat on the ground but Scarlett stepped on it, "Really?"

"Out of my way, LaRusso. I don't wanna hit a girl."

"That's sweet," Sam spoke.

"But don't worry, you won't," Tory added.

Kenny rushed at them and Sam blocked, "Kenny you have a place at our dojo. Everyone has a home at Miyagi-Do. It doesn't matter what happened in the past."

"It matters to me," Kenny said, walking forward. The twins grabbed his arms, pushing him backwards.

"We're just trying to help you," Tory spoke.

Kenny pushed Sam away and wrestled with Scarlett to release her hold. Tory moved his arms away and they pushed him back forcefully. It was a cat-and-mouse game as he moved to the side and they moved with him. As he rushed them, they pushed him into the fence.

Shawn came around the fence and stopped him from coming at them again, "That's it, little bro. Let's go."

"What? No, no, I'm not going anywhere," Kenny responded.

"Yes, you are. Security's coming. We're done," he pulled Kenny off and the boys rejoined them.

"Well, that could've gone better," Robby said.

"Could've gone worse," Miguel smirked. Scarlett nodded and they smield at each other.

Sam glanced at Tory, "You picked up Miyagi-Do pretty fast."

Tory offered her a small smile, "Yeah, well, I fought you enough. I guess some of it must have rubbed off." The two laughed and the other three shared a look.

The next afternoon, Chozen and Johnny decided that they were only going to spar for the fun of it rather than for an actual competition. Scarlett didn't really know what they were fighting about in the first place but she guessed it didn't matter that much to them in the end.

She was practising movements with Sam and Tory when she saw Robby walk past her out of the corner of her eye. She smiled to herself when she realised it was Kenny he was walking toward. He offered his fist and Kenny bumped it. Miguel followed and everyone seemed to relax as things became less tense.

When the senseis were done with their mini sparring, they handed out new gis for them to change into. Scarlett felt smug when she realised it was the one she had voted for. She and her Dad clearly had better taste than everyone else.

She came back out, standing proudly in the front as Daniel began to speak, "We've been through a lot to get to this point. And we're finally on the same page. We've put aside old rivalries and wiped the slate clean. Now we are all Miyagi-Do. But it's a new Miyagi-Do. The strongest we've ever been."

"And most badass," Chozen added causing them to chuckle, "One purpose. One team. One dojo."

"With a name steeped in tradition and honour. And a brand new patch," Daniel said.

"So get your asses ready," Johnny called, "We may have settled things in the Valley but now Miyagi-Do's ready for whatever the world throws at us."
