we're gonna kick his ass

☼ ☼ ☼

It'd been hours since Happy picked up Andi and Aurora in Berlin. Andi had been fast asleep since, while Happy focused on piloting the jet and the newfound information he'd received regarding Peter. Aurora sat quietly in her chair across from Andi's sleeping figure. She was fighting sleep herself, but she couldn't bring herself to rest just yet. There was so much on her mind, as well as so much that needed to be done.

As Aurora looked at Andi, a frown spread across her face. She was still trying to process that she was, in fact, the sleeping blonde's older sister. At first, she had no issue denying it, but she felt it was true deep inside. The immediate connection she shared with Andi only helped her believe. What saddened her, however, was knowing she was never allowed the chance to watch Andi grow. What saddened her was knowing Andi spent so many years without her family. Aurora couldn't imagine how she must've felt living her life with such a massive piece of it missing. She was this seventeen-year-old girl, and she'd been through more hell than most. Aurora could see it in her eyes the very night she met Andi, and she could hear it in the way she cried so desperately to her and Happy only hours earlier. Andi was tired, absolutely tired, but they all knew it wasn't quite her time to rest.

"For someone who's been through so much at such a young age, she sure is a strong one," Aurora said, her voice quiet as to prevent waking Andi.

"She always has been," Happy told her. "Even before she had the powers."

"What was she like?" Aurora asked, looking over at Happy. "I mean, after she lost us..."

Happy shrugged his shoulders. "She was withdrawn, quiet, and incredibly reserved. It took her a few months to speak to anyone apart from Pepper or Tony. She was eleven, so she didn't understand much, but she understood enough to know her family wasn't coming back. To be honest, I don't think she's ever truly been able to process the grief of losing you all. Everything just happened so suddenly."

"I wish I could've been there for her, y'know?" Aurora took a deep breath. "Maybe it wouldn't have made much of a difference without our parents, but—"

"Are you kidding? You were everything to her," Happy told Aurora. He put the jet on autopilot and got up from his seat. He walked over to sit down beside Aurora, who was growing emotional as a result of the conversation. "You weren't just her big sister, Aurora. You were her best friend. Hell, you're the reason everyone calls her 'Andi'."

"What?"

"I remember Pepper mentioning that she hadn't always gone by 'Andi'," Happy explained. "She was about ten years old, and you two had gone to the playground with Pepper. She called for you both when it was time to go. You decided 'Andromeda' was too much of a mouthful, so you shortened it to 'Andi' right there on the playground. The name just stuck around after that."

Aurora smiled softly and shifted her attention back to Andi. To hear what she'd forgotten so long ago was incredibly special to her, yet heartbreaking all the same. She'd missed so much. She'd forgotten so much. Her only comfort was knowing it was not her fault. However, her heart ached knowing she would never be able to get those years back. All she could do was look to the years ahead and create new memories with the family she'd lost so long ago.

"Pepper's gonna be so happy to see you," Happy told Aurora.

"Pepper is my aunt, right?"

Happy nodded his head. "She's your mom's older sister," he told her.

"Well, when this whole Beck thing blows over, I'll be happy to see her, too," Aurora said with a smile on her face.

"Yeah, speaking of this Beck thing, what exactly is going on?" Happy asked her. Given everything that'd happened earlier, there wasn't much time to discuss what was happening. He recalled Andi mentioning the name, but asking her about it didn't seem too appropriate at the time.

"Do you remember seeing anything about the Elementals?" Aurora asked.

"Yeah, and that flying guy with the red cape was fighting them," Happy said. "Pepper told me Andi and Peter were helping him, and so was another spider-person? Jeez, how many more are there?"

"They were, but all of it was fake," Aurora told him. "They discovered projectors in Prague and figured out Beck was using drones to create the illusion of an Elemental attack. He manipulated Peter into giving him EDITH for the sake of advancing that technology, and murdered him when he figured it out. He even tried to kill Andi, too."

"How do you play into all of this?"

"I, um, was meant to be Beck's partner, but he hid the truth from me throughout our time together." Aurora grew upset with herself when she thought of how she allowed herself to be deceived. He took advantage of her trust and her kind heart. "As I've discovered, I was merely a piece in his game. Beck thought Andi would be the hardest to fool between her and Peter, so he used me to distract her."

"Yeah, she's a smart kid," Happy said. "Peter was too, but between the two of them, he was always just a bit more gullible."

"He didn't deserve what happened to him," Aurora said quietly. "He was such a sweet boy. I could tell he was loved."

"He still is." Happy's mood shifted as they began to talk about Peter. "I tell ya, the kid was often the lone thorn in my side, but I couldn't help but love him. He was kindhearted, courageous, and as smart as could be. He was a good kid. Even Tony loved him."

"I can see why."

The two sat in silence for several moments, each of them pondering over their thoughts. They weren't too sure how much time had passed them by when Happy's phone rang inside his pocket. He pulled it out and pressed the device to his ear, and Aurora watched his expression change completely. He seemed to be surprised and confused all at once, but she didn't miss the relief dancing around inside his eyes. It piqued her curiosity, and she waited patiently for him to finish up his conversation.

"Holy shit," Happy breathed out when he hung up the phone. He stood up from his seat beside Aurora and hurried back to the cockpit, wasting no time at all in turning off autopilot and resuming control of the aircraft.

"What is it?" Aurora asked him.

Happy gestured Aurora to the front of the jet, and she got up quickly, making her way to where he sat in the pilot's seat. "That was Peter on the phone," he whispered to Aurora. "He needs me to pick him up in Broek op Langedijk."

"What?" Aurora's eyes were wide, and she glanced back at Andi, but Happy grabbed her attention before she could think of rushing over to her. "We have to tell her. She thinks he's dead!"

"Then let her see for herself that he's not," Happy told her. "If we tell her now she won't believe us, and you know it. Let her rest, and when we get to where we're going we'll wake her up."

"Well, how long will that be?"

"Probably about an hour or so."

Aurora let out a breath and plopped down beside him. She was relieved to know Peter was alive and had survived Beck's attempt on his life, but she wondered how it was possible. Like Andi, she'd seen what happened with her own eyes. "I really thought he was gone. There's no way someone can survive an accident like that, Happy."

"He's a special someone," Happy said with a grin on his face. "That kid can really take a hit. So can Sleeping Beauty back there. They're a tough pair."

"They complement each other rather well, don't they?"

"You ever heard the term 'opposites attract'?" Happy asked rhetorically, a quiet laugh escaping him. "They're as opposite as can be, but it seems to work for them. Andi's aggressively fierce, while Peter, well, he isn't, but she brings that out of him. Just like he brings out the gentler side of her."

"They balance each other out, huh?"

"Pretty much, but there's no balancing out how incredibly annoying they both are when they're together," Happy joked. "The amount of nerve pills I've had to take just to handle being around them at the same time is ridiculous."

Aurora couldn't help but laugh at him. She could tell he was being sincere, despite his lighthearted tone.

"Speaking of which..." Happy trailed off and reached over to grab a bottle of medication from a black bag. He opened the top and poured two pills into his hand. He didn't hesitate to toss them into his mouth. "I already know it's going to be a long day ahead with the two of them."

"Ya think?"

"Believe me, I know."

The next hour passed rather quickly. Andi remained asleep throughout the hour, and Happy was thankful for that. He didn't need her in his ear asking where they were going. He also knew she needed her rest given the day she'd had. Even in her sleep she still looked incredibly rough, but Happy hoped when they landed that would change. He hoped when she saw Peter that would change.

"How much longer?" Aurora asked Happy. She was becoming rather impatient.

Happy smirked and began to descend into a field of very bright and beautiful flowers. "I'm landing now, so you can wake her up any time."

Aurora didn't waste any time trying to wake Andi up. She shook her gently and called her name, doing her best to lure her out of her slumber. Andi's eyes opened slowly, and Aurora smiled at her. She knew he gesture wouldn't be returned, but that was okay with her.

"Hey, it's time to wake up," Aurora spoke quietly.

Andi rubbed her eyes and sat up slowly. She noticed they'd landed, and she wondered why. She wondered where they were. "Why did we land?" she asked, looking over as Happy opened the jet's hatch.

Happy stopped and turned to look at her. "I think you better come with me."

"Why?" Andi stood up and ran a hand through her tousled blonde hair. She stumbled slightly, but remained upright with Aurora's help. She was still so exhausted, but Aurora knew that would soon change. "Where are we, Happy?"

"Broek op Langedijk," Happy answered as he stepped off the jet.

"Broke Oh What?" Andi groaned and reluctantly followed after him, being careful not to trip down the stairs in her tired state. The first thing she saw when she exited the jet were the beautiful flowers in the field Happy had landed in, but her attention was averted by the sound of a voice she never thought she'd hear again.

"Happy, is that you?"

Andi turned her head immediately to see Peter walking through the field in a bright orange shirt. He was covered in dirt and blood and was limping. He looked just as rough as Andi did, but at the moment that was the least of her concerns. All she was focused on was the fact that he was alive, when only hours ago she'd believed him to be dead. Her eyes welled with tears, and despite the immense pain wracking every inch of her body, she ran to him.

"Peter, oh my god!"

"Andi!"

Andi reached Peter in no time and hugged him as tightly as she could without hurting him. She trembled in his arms and cried, burying her face in the side of his neck. To know what it felt like to lose him, to lose any chance at ever holding him again, made her cherish every second she held him in her arms. The relief she felt knowing he wasn't gone was astronomical, and she was determined to make sure she never lost him again.

"I thought you were dead!" Andi cried.

"Hey, I'm okay." Peter pulled away to look at Andi with a frown on his face. He reached up to wipe away her tears, and she leaned into his touch before wrapping her arms around him once more. "I need to know it's really you, though," he said, his tone uneasy.

"Um, remember that time you kissed me with gum in your mouth and—"

"Okay, okay," Peter cut her off before she could finish and hugged her tightly, resting his head on top of hers.

"I'm never letting you go again," Andi said quietly as the tears continued to flow down her face.

"Does this mean you're not mad at me anymore?" Peter asked.

For the first time in hours, Andi smiled. She pulled away from him, and without a thought, she leaned forward to press a kiss to his lips. The gesture shocked Peter, as he hadn't been expecting it, but he welcomed it, nonetheless. He kissed her back, his grip on her waist tightening in the slightest. He wanted nothing more than for it to be just the two of them, but it wasn't, and he was reminded of that when Happy cleared his throat behind them.

"We have shit to do, you two!" Happy called to the teenagers.

Andi pulled away from Peter and laughed quietly. She grabbed him by the hand and began walking with him back to the jet. He continued to limp, and she frowned.

"Are you okay?" Andi asked as the two made their way up the stairs. "Y'know, besides getting hit by a train?"

"Ah, so you saw that," Peter mused. "I'm sorry about that."

"I don't care about me, I care about you," Andi told him.

"Yeah, she's been a basket case this entire time because of you," Happy told Peter with a chuckle.

"You'd be a basket case too if you thought you lost the love of your life," Andi muttered.

Happy and Peter stopped in their tracks to look at Andi, while Aurora giggled from her spot on the sofa. It was obvious to the three of them Andi hadn't meant to say what she did out loud. When she realized she had, her eyes widened slightly, and she covered her face in her hands.

"I didn't mean to say that."

"But you did." Happy turned around to close the hatch on the jet. "Too bad it's nothing we didn't already know."

"Whatever, Happy," Andi remarked. She glanced over at Peter and smiled softly before quickly looking away from him.

Aurora was studying Peter intently, or his injuries more-so. She stood up and walked over to him, her eyes on the gash across his forehead. "You okay, Peter?" she asked.

"Uh, I think so," Peter told her.

"You need stitches," Aurora informed him. "Do you have a first-aid kit, Happy?"

Happy didn't answer. He simply removed the kit from the wall and handed it to Aurora. She took it from him and instructed Peter to sit down, though he was reluctant to do so. He wasn't too sure he could trust her, despite her presence among Happy and Andi—two of the people he trusted most in the world. Andi could see this, and she was quickly to reassure Peter.

"It's okay, you can trust her, Peter," Andi said to him. "She's actually the reason I'm even alive."

"What?" Peter sat down in front of Aurora, who was quick to begin her work. "What do you mean?"

"After he thought he finished you off, Beck came after me," Andi explained. "She was there to stop him."

Peter frowned at the thought of losing her at the hands of Beck. He hated that all of this was happening, and he hated even more that he could only blame himself for it. Had he not given Beck the glasses to begin with, none of this would've happened. If he hadn't given Beck the glasses, his friends wouldn't currently be in danger. All he could think was that Beck was right. Peter was just a scared little boy, and he felt there was no way he could live up to Tony's expectations.

"I really messed up," Peter said, wincing as Aurora worked on stitching him up.

"Peter—"

"No!" Peter cut Andi off before she could try to convince him the situation wasn't his fault. "I trusted Beck! I thought he was my friend! I gave him the only thing Mr. Stark left for me—for us—and now he's gonna kill our friends and half of Europe. I just—I really miss him, okay?"

"We miss him too," Happy told Peter.

"Everywhere I go, I see his face," Peter said. He moved away from Aurora and ran a hand through his hair. He was on the verge of tears, and Andi frowned. She knew he'd been feeling down about Tony, but she hadn't expected an outburst from him. It broke her heart to see. This was exactly what he meant when he told her he needed her too. She hated that she'd been too enveloped inside her own despair to realize it. "The whole world is asking who's gonna be the next Iron Man...I don't know if that's me. I'm not Iron Man."

"You're not Iron Man," Happy agreed with Peter. "You're never gonna be Iron Man. Nobody could live up to Tony. Not even Tony. Tony was my best friend, and he was a mess. He second-guessed everything he did. He was all over the place. The one thing he did that he didn't second-guess was picking you and picking Andi. I'm gonna tell you what I told her a few hours ago, and it's that I don't think Tony would've done what he did if he didn't know that you were gonna be here after he was gone."

Peter looked over at Andi, who was lost inside her own thoughts regarding the conversation. They'd both been lost for so long now dealing with the pressures of carrying on Tony's legacy, when all along the only thing they needed to focus on was being what Tony wanted them to be, and that was better. Despite their screw-ups and mistakes, they were better, and with each mission they became even more so. All Tony had ever wanted was for them to do what's right, to make a difference inside the cruel world they called home.

"Now..." Happy glanced between Peter and Andi. "Your friends are in trouble, and your tech is missing. What are you two gonna do about it?"

"I think an ass-kicking is in order," Andi answered.

"Yeah, we're gonna kick his ass," Peter added.

"No, I mean right now," Happy said. "Specifically, what are we gonna do? Because we've been hovering over a tulip field for the last fifteen minutes."

"Well, we can't call our friends because he's probably tracking their phones," Andi told Happy.

"There is no probably, he definitely is," Peter remarked. "Aurora, do you have a phone?"

"Andi threw it out a window."

"Nice," Peter chuckled and looked at Happy. "Happy, give me your phone."

Happy handed Peter his cell phone.

"What's your password?"

Andi couldn't help but laugh, as she already knew the answer to the question. "His password is actually 'password'," she told Peter.

Peter raised a brow and looked at Happy. "You're the head of security and your password is 'password'?"

"I don't feel good about it." Happy looked over at Andi with narrowed eyes when he realized she knew his password. "Wait, how do you know my password?"

"It's been the same for, like, a decade," Andi said with a laugh.

"That's it, I'm changing it."

"What? To 'password' with a capital 'P'?"

"Guys, guys, shut up!" Peter interrupted the two's bickering. "Our friends, they're in London!"

"London, okay!" Happy hopped up from his seat and headed for the cockpit.

"Hey, I need a suit!" Peter called to him.

Happy walked over to the control board and pressed a button that opened up the very back of the jet. Peter looked at the makeshift laboratory in awe, as did Aurora. Andi and Happy were used to it, however.

"Good thing you don't need a suit, huh?" Aurora said to Andi as she watched Peter tinker with the technology. "That looks like a lot of work."

"Not if you know what you're doing," Andi teased, her brown eyes on Peter. She couldn't help the smile on her face as she watched him work on his suit. He was back in his element, and it made her so happy to see. He was so intelligent, so determined, and so focused. It was everything she loved about him plus a little bit more. "Try not to make your suit cuter than mine!"

"I don't think I could if I tried," Peter responded. His focus was currently on constructing his web shooters. "At least you don't have to worry about building your own web shooters."

"Yeah, I definitely don't have to worry about that."

"You make your own webs?" Aurora asked with wide eyes.

Andi nodded her head and raised her hand, shooting a web in Peter's direction. He dodged it easily, but looked over at her with an annoyed expression on his face. "I'm busy taking care of something here!" he exclaimed.

Andi only laughed and continued watching him work. They'd gotten themselves into one hell of a fight, but they both knew as long as they had one another by their side, they could win. They were a team, and an unstoppable one at that. Andi found comfort in knowing that would never change.
