--------------------------------------------

Meeting 1
You first saw him on a Monday.

It was a plain day, no different from any other. Life at SHIELD was boring if there were no missions to go on. Skye and Ward had suffocated the rest of the team from the sexual tension that radiated from them that consequently thickened the air. Fitz and Simmons had spent most of their time in the little lab and Melinda had been her usual antisocial self. And Coulson? Coulson was just in his office, doing god knows what.

You groaned as the wind whipped around, causing your dark blonde hair to fly in all directions, including in front of your electric blue eyes. The eyes that notified the world of your difference. "For fucks sake!" You gritted her teeth while more rain lashed down. You kicked open the door to the nearest café and entered, Café Bleu. It seemed that the rest of New York had the same idea as you to seek refuge in this cafe from the pelting, freezing rain. The establishment was full to the brim. You huffed and waited in the line of infinite people to order an overpriced chocolate milk.

Finally you got to the barista, whom was overly perky for your liking. It was Monday afternoon, not Friday night. "Hey there miss, what can I get you?" Bobby chirped. "Chocolate milk please". You didn't listen to the price but just gave him a $5 bill and hoped for the best. You took the change without another word and made your way deeper into the coffee smelling jungle, inhabited with hipsters and office workers alike. Your tired eyes scanned across the room to try and find a vacant table, or a chair at least. You felt eyes upon you, as you swiftly glided to an empty, black, worn stool that was situated next to the wide window that spanned the northern wall of the cafe.
You sat down and sighed in relief at the fact that you had escaped the tide of sweaty, obnoxious people. The figure opposite you didn't even acknowledge your presence. You immediately scanned the man: late twenties/early thirties; military background, according to his posture and his worn and hardened hands; 5ft 11; has trouble sleeping, according to the dark rings that hung under his eyes like shadows, probably the product of countless night terrors; and metal armed. This man interested you. He seemed like he was hiding secrets, you could tell. You were hiding a few yourself.

Meeting 2
You next saw him a week later on the Tuesday.
Coulson had let you leave earlier then usual and you decided to treat yourself to another of Café Bleu's overpriced chocolate milk. As it was lunchtime, the cafe was full again and you were served by Bobby. And yet again the only seat available was in front of the man from last time. You sat down in front of him and his black coffee and noticed that he was reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. He was really getting into the book by you could see. "Don't you know that it's rude to stare". He said not looking up from his book. This took you by surprise. You didn't expect him to notice as you spent your time analysing him. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to stare, I was just noticing that you are reading the best book ever written." You said coolly, taking a sip from your milk. You kept your facial expression neutral and man did the same as he turned the page and carried on reading the book. "Who is your favourite character?" You inquired with a flat tone. "I like the Mad Hatter, he seems like he doesn't give a fuck. I like that. Who is yours?" He answered. "I like the Hatter as well. For the same reason." You replied. He nodded before carrying on with his reading. You took your book out and started reading.
After about an hour and more comfortable silence, you stood up and out your coat on. "See you soon." You said. "Yeah, see you soon".

Meeting 3
You didn't see him for two days after that as you were needed by the academy to do a little workshop to show the students what it was like to actually work for SHIELD.
As it was only 2:30 when you went to the Cafe, it was pretty empty apart from some odd students that were dotted around the sunlight filled room; two mid twenties women gossiping over the latest episode of Game of Thrones; an elderly woman contently reading the newspaper; and the man. You had most of the shop to choose from however you decided to sit with your 'coffee buddy'. As you neared the mysterious man's table, you noticed that on your side of the table, sat a glass of chocolate milk, ready and waiting to be consumed by you.
A smile crept onto your face and you sat down opposite him again.
"I got you milk, I hope you don't mind". The man said looking up from his book. This is the first time that you had actually seen his face. He took your breath away.
He had fairly long hair, chocolate coloured and glossy, that fell over his eyes every time he tried to push it back. His eyes were a beautiful cornflower blue colour, long eyelashes fluttered delicately around them. He had a sharp and chiselled jawline and cheekbones to die for. His lips were cracked but they still looked sweet and a cute peach colour.
"No not at all. Thank you so much, you really didn't have to buy me one..." you paused to try and get his name. "James Buchanan Barnes, but everyone calls me Bucky. And your name is..." he answered. His voice rugged yet smooth. "Alex". He smiled. "Your name is almost as pretty as you, ma'am". He said as smooth as anything. "Are you flirting with me Mr Barnes?" You asked as you took a sip from your drink. He gave you a small smirk. "I'm just appreciating the work of art in front of me, ma'am". He stared into your eyes, immersed in their electric blue hue.
He had never seen anything like it, something so wild, so beautiful, so dangerous. He couldn't remember seeing something so strange yet so utterly mesmerising. Of course he had seen pretty and gorgeous people, but none could compare to you. To Bucky, you were a Goddess on Earth.
You blushed under his intense yet soothing stare. For your whole life people stared at you because of your gifts, but now as Bucky stared, you didn't mind. Instead of him judging you, he was appreciating you. It was a nice change.
"I finished the book by the way". He broke his gaze and took a sip from his coffee. "How did you find it?" You asked as you mirrored his actions and took a sip from your milk. "It was one of the best books I have ever read, that and another one I have read recently, The Invention of Hugo Caberet. It was most remarkable". "Really?! That is also one of my favourite books!" You said happily. Bucky beamed. "Well they say that great minds think alike. What other books should I read?"' He asked. You answered him with all of your other favourite books which he wrote on his hand using a biro that happened to be in his coat pocket.

~*~

Over the course of the next few months, you and Bucky met at the cafe at the same table every week. He would always be waiting for you with a chocolate milk ready for you. He would also bring a book along for you to read and you would bring one for him, and sometimes a DVD for him to watch. He told you all about his life in the 40's, the War, being Captain America's right hand man. He confessed to you about his work for HYDRA and time as the Winter Soldier. He spoke to you about his nightmares that he would suffer every time he went to sleep and the relapses that would result in one of his friends or himself being injured. He talked to you about the fact that people saw him as a monster and how hard he was working not to be bad again. He spilled to you that he always remembered the people he had killed and heard their screams and pleas and the gunshots every time he was alone.
To him you were a guardian angel. He knew that he could tell you anything and you wouldn't judge him at all. But he always thought that he was burdening you, weighing you down with all of his woes and misfortunes and pains
. You didn't mind, you were helping him and that was all that mattered.

Meeting 20
This time you didn't meet him at your normal time, in your normal seat, in the normal café. You met him on a dark night, two days before your weekly meet up, in an abandoned warehouse in the centre of Hell's Kitchen.

You were walking around in an empty car park in your natural form. This is the only place that you could be yourself without people seeing. Whenever the moon came out you shifted into your natural form, your Jötun form. Your skin would shift from its usual pale tone, to an electric blue that you match your human eyes. Your eyes would become blood red and emit a small glow. Ancient runic text decorated your skin and shone a light silver colour in the moonlight. Your mother was human but your father, Loki, was an ice giant, meaning that in the sunlight you were human like your mother and in the moonlight you were an ice giant like him. The only people to know about your unusual heritage were yourself, your mother, Fury and Coulson. All of whom had been sworn to secrecy.

You ran your fingers along a crumbly brick wall and smiled as you saw the wall become adorned with icy patterns. You placed your hand so they were pointing towards the floor and focused to create more icy designs that danced across the concrete until it looked like a rangoli design. You danced your way into the abandoned building that still bore the frosty art that you had created the previous night. As you twirled around your now much longer hair flicked out a gust of cold frosty air, that would probably be common in mid Winter in Russia.

Within minutes, the whole of the warehouse had become coated in thick layer of frost and every road within a 12 block radius of the warehouse was shimmering with thin coating of blue ice. You had become a bit carried away and didn't notice the band of Superheroes that were standing, watching you as more cold and ice erupted from your palms. "Do you mind stopping? I don't think that Steve wants to become a capsicle again". A sarcasm infused voice called out. You heard a loud exasperated sigh. You snapped out of your dreamy daze and turned towards them, eyes wide at the fact that you had been caught in your Jötun state. You saw the Avengers all staring at you, mouths agape. "What are you?" The blonde haired man asked. "She's a Jötun, Captain Rogers, like Loki". A man that you recognised to be the Demi-God Thor. "Please I'm not dangerous. Don't hurt me". You said in a quiet voice.

"Alex?" You turned towards the door to see Bucky standing there in his uniform. "B...B...Bucky?" You stuttered. He walked towards you against the others protests. "Dude, she could ice you. What are you doing" The guy with wings asked. "Sam, shut up! I know her. She's the coffee shop girl", he turned his head around. "This is the chick that have been crushing on for months?" Sam laughed. Frost giants can't blush but if you were in your human form, you would have been redder then a tomato. You hid your face in shame as he got closer. "Please don't look at me Bucky. I'm a hideous monster. I am what parents tell their children about to scare them". You said sadly. His eyes widened and his pace quickened until he was an arms length away. He took your hands from your face and brought them down until your face was completely uncovered. He took your face in his metal hand and cradled it lightly.

"Alex, you always told me that I was no monster because of my metal arm, well you are no monster because of your powers, your beautiful skin and your mesmerising eyes. Doll, you are my beautiful angel. You are beautiful on the outside but your soul and heart even more so. I've seen monsters, More than my fair share. So believe me when I say this, you are the complete opposite of a monster. You are you, and you are perfect. I love you with pale skin, dark blond hair and blue eyes, and I love you with blue skin, white hair and red eyes." He said sincerely. Wiping away a few of the tears that froze to your skin. "How can you love me when I'm not normal. I'm a freak. I'm not Jötun and I'm not human. I'm a mess". You cried. "Shhhh Darling. Yes you are mess, but no more then me, or any of the others. You aren't normal, you aren't ordinary, my dear you are completely and utterly extraordinary." He placed a small kiss on your nose. You heard a whoosh and over Bucky's shoulder you saw that the Avengers had gone, leaving you and Bucky alone.

"Were you telling the truth when you said that you loved me? Or where you just saying that so I didn't freeze you into a Bucksicle?" He smiled a little bit and tilted your chin up lightly. "I meant every word of what I said. Every. Single. Word. I would never lie to you, doll. As you said, you could turn me into a 'Bucksicle'". He chuckled at the end. "I love you Alex, my little human-Jötun. You are like...what is she called...I know... you're like a blue Elsa". He smiled proud of himself for remembering that piece of Disney knowledge. "Please don't call me an Elsa. I can't stand Frozen, Bucky Boo Bear". You smiled at his nickname. He rolled his eyes. "So I love you, Alex. There. I. Love. You". He said pecking your lips lightly after each word. "I love you too, Bucky Bear". You smiled.

He grinned like mad and brushed a piece of hair behind your ear. He gently stroked your jaw and cheek before his eyes fluttered to your lips. You leaned in slowly and just as your lips brushed-

"OOOOOOOOO FROSTY IS GETTING SOME!!!!" Tony yelled from outside. Bucky groaned and rolled his eyes. "OOOOO WINTER GOT COCKBLOCKED!!!" Clint laughed along with Sam and Natasha. Bucky smirked at you before dipping you and pressing his warm, soft lips to your cold ones. You held onto his neck and tried not to cover it in ice. You heard to Avengers whoop and clap but you didn't care. Bucky held you sturdily with no sign of dropping you. He swiped his tongue across your bottom lip and you allowed him to deepen the kiss. He pulled you up so you were standing up straight and put his hands firmly on your waist and hips.

Finally when you both pulled away, you realised that his lips had turned a bright blue and he was shivering. "Bucky are you okay?" You fretted. "Doll, I lived in Russia. I can survive kissing you". He gave you his award winning smile.

"You ready to go Bucksicle?" Tony laughed. Bucky gave you a quick peck before walking towards the waiting avengers. "Yeah. But do we have room for another avenger in the team?"
