Tears (Requested by caitydi)
Dedicated to @caitydi
You don't cry. You're pretty tough. You had a rough childhood. It gave you thick skin, but you weren't indestructible.
You were sobbing into a pillow, mourning your friends death. She was involved with a shady guy, and he got mad and pulled a trigger.
She was your everything. Your life. Your sister. And it killed you to loose her.
The Avengers didn't know what to do. As said before, you never cried before. They didn't know if you preferred alone time, if you needed to talk, or if you just needed a hug. They decided to play it safe and give you a bit of space, let you cool down a bit.
It was a mutual agreement, with a vote of 7 to 1.
The one being Bucky.
He wanted so badly to run to you and comfort you. He wanted to hold you until your problems disappeared. You see, he loved you. Ever since he met you. But, life as the Winter Soldier never had room for romance. He didn't know what to do with his feelings, so he opted to avoid you.
And he hated himself for it.
He didn't know how you had developed a crush on the mysterious, handsome man. Or how you wanted to talk to him, but your shyness overtook you everytime. He didn't know how you stole glances whenever he was around, or how you adored his strength and endurance through all the valleys he's been through.
He didn't know any of it.
Another wail came from down the hall, shattering another piece of Bucky's heart.
"I can't just sit around!" He protested, raising from his seat on the couch.
"It's all we can do right now." Natasha stated, her voice cold and hardened. She was hiding her pain as well.
"No. I'm not giving up like that." Bucky pressed, hoping he could get permission to see you. After all, the 7 Avengers could easily stop him as soon as he took one step towards you.
"Just stop! Don't think we don't want to help, but this is all we can do! Its... it's the best we can do." Tony said, pinching the bridge of his nose. He was like a brother to you, plenty teasing but never hit on you. He just didn't see you that way, and it always threw the other heroes for a loop.
"Why? Why is it all we can do? You don't think she wants a hug?" Bucky argued. Everyone looked to their feet, unable to sort out the jumbled thoughts spinning through the air.
"Just let him go." Steve spoke softly. "He's trying. Why are we stopping him?"
Bucky looked at everyone's expressions. They remained hardened, but when no one argued, he turned on his heel and began walking towards your room, hellbent on making you better.
"(Y/N), darling?" He called sweetly as he opened your door. His pulse raced. He was finally talking to the girl he loved.
"B-Bucky?" You asked through tears. You had expected Tony or Clint.
"Hey, Doll." He whispered, sinking into the bed next to you. You stared at each other for a second before he reached up and stroked away stray tears, his thumb leaving a tingling sensation on your cheek.
"What's got you down, sugar?" He asked gently.
"M-My friend." Your lower lip trembled, "sh-shes dead." You let tears roll down your cheeks. Bucky's face broke from his reassuring smile to complete and utter sadness, his heart breaking for you. He couldn't help but think of Steve, how his situation was so similar.
"Oh, Darling." He cooed and pulled you into his warm chest, his heartbeat lulling your sobs away. You cried silently, sniffiling every few seconds.
"How do I make the pain stop?" You croaked. Bucky sighed and stroked your hair.
"Only time can heal." He said softly, then placed a gentle kiss on the top of your head. You pulled out of his grasp and looked into his bright blue eyes. He couldn't help but admire how beautiful you were, even with tear stained cheeks.
"You're so beautiful." He thought out loud, then widened his eyes when he realized what he just said. He clomped a hand over his mouth. "I'm sorry." He muttered, the sound muffled.
Your cheeks reddened and you chuckled for the first time that day. You had a genuine smile on your features, and it melted Bucky's heart.
"Thanks." You said shyly. "You're quite a sight for sore eyes, yourself." You kicked yourself. That sounded so old. Oh wait...
"Thanks, doll." He replied, then took your hand and looked into your eyes. You remained silent and took the moment to look back at him. To see how perfectly wide and round his blue orbs were, how his straight nose led to his full, pink lips, how his jaw was wide and defined.
"May I... kiss you?" He asked hesitantly.
"You may." You whispered, leaning in and shutting your eyes. A pair of warms lips touched yours in a soft, gentle kiss. It was full of a passion and love you've never felt before, and it made you realize how deeply you had fallen for this man. Your lips detached, and your eyes fluttered open, while Bucky sat with a smile on his face, his eyes staying closed a bit before they opened and looked at you.
That's when you realized that time wasn't the only medicine. You thought, maybe, that the hole in your heart didn't have to heal, but rather be filled, with the love from Bucky.
"I've loved you for quite a while." He said.
"I've loved you, too, Bucky." You said while hugging him tightly. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
You looked to the heavens and smiled, thinking of your friends reaction to this. She would surely be squeeling for you.
A single tear escaped your eye. You kissed Bucky's neck and pulled out of the hug, a slight smile dancing on your lips.
With him, you could get better.
With him, you would get better.
