CHAPTER XIV: Mystery Box

"Good morning, Mr. Schulz." I answered the phone.

As usual, I am seated at my office chair as I rummaged different files and re-arranging all the details that seems to be complicated.

"Ms. Mcfeller! I want you here in my office right now!" Mr. Schulz raised his voice as he speaks through the phone.

He seems peachy.

"Coming right away, sir." I replied which to he hunged up the phone.

I made my way out of my office and stride towards the door that is connected to Mr. Schulz's office.

"Ms. Mcfeller, I want you to send the External Auditors to the Materials Department. I noticed discrepancies in their reports. They are releasing massive hot coils and yet the Production Department produces lesser roof profiles. And what the fuck! Where is the report for the bendid accessories, this is not a complete report! And where is the contracts that I asked you to send it to me a week ago!? Do not forget about this damn report! This is a trash! Are you doing your job well, Ms. Mcfeller!?" He yelled, getting angry as he throw all the files that he was holding in front of me.

Oh shit! The contracts! I forgot to reprint them as I accidentally pour a hot chocolate on it few days ago! Stupida, drey, stupida!

"Y-yes, s-sir. I will notify them to go to the Material Department and as for the c-contracts yo-u ha-ve asked, I w-will send them to you as soon as possible" I stuttered as I have had a hard time to answer all of his questions one at a time.

It has been a week since the commotion in the kitchen with my sister, Illyria. And with that one week, all of my thoughts about Mr. Schulz being a good boss was quickly thrown out of my room's window the moment I got to work the next day.

He did gave all of the employees in CazoS Enterprise a hard time, yelling and bossing around the people he came across with.

"You already said that a lot of times, Ms. Mcfeller! Do your job well as I pay you much! Here I thought that I hired a high class secretary but it ends up that I hired a low class who works too slowly than the turtles!" He exclaimed, as his eyebrows furrowed hinting anger in them. The temperature of the room seem to rise as his balled fists started to turn white at his knuckles.

"I a-a-m s-sorr-y, sir." I stuttered out which is a big mistake as his burning gaze only got worst.

If looks could kill, Mr. Schulz's burning gaze would killed me already and thirty foot buriend under the ground.

"What a shameless human, get out!" He roared with uncontrollable fury.

Looking down on the floor as I find an interest on my pumps as I walk out of his office.

"Heavenly Father, please help me!" I muttered under my breath as I strolled into my office.

****

Work. Work. Work. Work. Work.
You see me I be work, work, work, work, work, work.
You see me do me dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt, dirt.
There is something 'bout that work, work, work, work, work, work.

Work! Work! Work! Work! Work!

I sung while engrossing myself at work. Finalizing the paperworks that is needed to be done today that was neatly placed on my office table. I am already done arranging all the details that is going to be use for tomorrow's conference meeting but I still have to finalize it especially the contracts that Mr. Schulz have been asking. I still have to re-print and make copies of it.

I have never been a fan in songs but whenever I am being piled up with the workloads or stressed, listening to musics ease my knotted mind. It has been my stress reliever because with music, I can escape from the reality for a while and it really helps me to finish my works.

"Finally!" I exclaimed, stretching my hands forward and massaging my shoulders.

Standing up from my seat, I gathered all the paperworks that is now neatly arranged in order and walked out of my office to the stack room that is exclusively just for the chief of executive's important documents to be put in there.

Finished with most of my works, I only need to make copies of some of the documents. I began making my way towards the stack room that is just two doors away from my office when suddenly all of the papers that was currently on my hold flew on the air right in front of my face as I tripped over, face met the tiled floor.

"Watch where you are going! Arghh!" yelled the woman whom her shoes I almost kissed.

I quickly stood up from the floor, wiping the imaginary dust on my clothes. "Oh my Gosh! I am so sorry, Ma'am." I apologetically exclaimed as I tried to help her up.

"Get your filthy hands off of me!" she gritted out, swatting my hands away, her face was red with surpressed rage.

Retrieving my extended hands , I crouched down and started to pick up all of the documents that was now sprawled out on the floor.

Dammit! All of the efforts that I have put into this papers are now thrown out onto the floor, now scattered and disarranged. Why are you so clumsy these days, drey!?

I thought, scolding myself as I stood up again and face the woman in front of me. Arms folded at her chest, eyes burning with fury, glaring at me.

"Are you watching where you are going!? Do you even have eyes or you are just blind enough to be this clumsy!? Who hired you anyway!? This workplace screamed perfection yet why are the clumsy and pathetic girl like you doing here!? You are a mere disgrace in this building!", she roared out, chest rising as she speak.

"I a-a-am s-s-s-so...."

"You know what!? Save it! Arghhh! You are delaying me on my plans! You better be thankful that you are lucky this time or so help me God, I will make you regret bumping onto me!", she said, interrupting me as I was about to apologize again before storming off but not without bumping her shoulders to mine making me stumble backwards but luckily, I managed to balance myself.

I just stood there completely in utter shocked, watching the woman walked right past at me. As soon as she was out of sight, I composed myself before continuing making my way towards the stack room.

****
Rain floats in gentle waves, as if gravity is a soft music from the Earth, a sweet beckoning serenade. Each drop bequeathes itself unto the cooling air as the last streaks of sunlight disappeared behind the city.

Rain beads the paintworks of the cars and bounces from every hard surface. The sound comes from every direction except from the corner of every streets that has a roof in it.

The storm drains bubble at the darkening sky. Even with the sweltering heat of the city lights, the alleyways that cut through the old buildings were dark and cold.

Raindrops washes down my face as I saunter in the soft rain, small pallets of water spitting on my hands as the remainder of the drops quench the scattered puddles decorating the asphalt. It lost its ambiennt temperature of early fall, freezing and paling my skin on contact as I forget to bring an umbrella with me.

The path through the streets is muddy water in motion, filling deep puddles that hide the ruts of a dry weather.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit!", I muttered under my breath, standing at the middle of the street trying to hail a cab.

There is a heavy traffic in the city of Manhattan as the weather only worsened and hailing a cab is harder than I thought. It had been a busy day, as many people started running the moment the rain started pouring down the street doing their best not to get drenched by the rain.

Some are making their brief case as an umbrella to cover their head. Some are walking very calm as they do have their umbrella.

What a lucky day do they have in there.

I thought as I heaved a sigh while extending my right hand hoping that I could hail a cab as it was already late at the evening and I have not gone home yet.

Although, I have already finished all of my works but unfortunately for me, there was a rude woman who bumped onto me making me stayed late at work as I have to finish it today. However, fate did not side with me today as I have yet to finish the work on time making the chief of executive angry than before and making me work very late.

So, I have no other choice but to stay and finish all the works or else, I would literally lose this job.

After finishing all of my works, it was already eight o'clock in the evening when I got out of work and here I am now, a hour later still standing in the middle of the road completely soaked.

Excitement and relief washed through myself as I stared at the yellow cab making its way towards where I stood at. I was about to open the backdoor handle when someone beats me to it.

"Hey, I got in first!", yelled the man that had the same grip on the door handle as mine.

"Can you just lend it to me!? You see, I do really need to go home now! I am completely freezing and drenched here!" I fight back as we both tried to push each other without looking up to see each other's faces.

"Watch it woman! I got here first!" He yelled out again.

"No! I got here first! Can you not see that this cab stopped right in front of me? Right where I am standing? You here mister are just overtaking!"

"Are you guys going to go in or both of you are just going to stand there fighting over my cab? I can find another passenger if you want." The driver whom I did not noticed rolled down the passenger seat's window interrupted.

"Well, I am sorry miss, whatever you are pin pointing on what you are talking about, I do not care about that but one thing I cared about is I got here first. Now, get out of the way, shooo!" he said, pushing me out of the way making me stumble back as he swatted my hands that is currently holding the door handle before getting in.

"A*sh*le!" I muttered under my breath getting up from the ground, completely soaked from the rain.

" Argh!! Why does life have to be this hard! Can my day get any more worser!?", I yelled out in frustration stumping my left foot on the ground. " What a gentleman that man is!"

Taking a deep breath, I walked away from the road to the side as many cars started honking and waited for another cab to come.

Three minutes had passed and there is still no sign of an empty cab, I raked a hand to my hair and pulling the blazer closer as gush of wind blew past the road making me shiver in its coldness praying that there will be a cab I can get into and go home.

"Get in", a husky voice broke me out of my own thoughts and turn to see a Veneno Roadster lamborghini car parked right in front of me.

"Excuse me?" I replied, not sure who this man is.

"Per la vita di Dio! GET.IN. Do not make me repeat myself again Ms. Mcfeller."  he yelled out taking his shades off looking all too annoyed.

"Mr. Shulz!" My eyes popped out of their sockets in realization as I looked at the man who parked his car in front of me who is none other than my boss.

Scurrying, I darted my way towards the backseat of his car in attempt to get in but he stopped me saying 'Passenger seat, I am not your personal driver' so I turn to the passenger door and get inside, sighing in relief as the warmth of the car seat welcomed me.

Thank God!

I looked outside at the passenger side's window studying the busy streets passing by. Even at this time, Manhattan street is still filled with a lot of people. I noticed that the rain are now no where to be seen as it had died down a minute after I got inside the car.

Argh! Is mother nature playing games with me!?

I cried out inside my head, stress tears falling from my eyes. How hard must life can be? Does it have to be like this? Why make people suffer? Stupid rain, stupid woman who bumped onto me, stupid chief of executive making me work late, stupid world!

"Are you even listening?", I turn to look at the man at the driver side sitting beside me.

"W-what?" I asked confused as to what he was saying.

"I said, what is your address? Where do you live? I have been driving to no where in five minutes oblivious on where you are living.", glancing on my way, he said before looking back in front, focusing at the road in front of us.

"Oh! Uhhh, I live three blocks away from the company. 13th Street North Stern." I replied before looking out at the window, pulling my blazer closer.

"Here, wear this" he began talking and yet again, I turn back to look at his extended arm.

"What is this?"

"Clothes, what else would it be?", I rolled my eyes at his statement, but instead of replying a remark, I just took the garment.

"Wear it, it will make you warmer seeing you are shivering", I said nothing and just wear the coat that he gave me.

The whole ride was silent aside from him asking me where I live and offered his coat. He never said anything after that so I did not utter a word either. I sighed as I can see the apartment where I reside at.

Finally. I mutterd under my breath as I sat uncomfortably at the leather seat of the passenger side wanting to get out of this car and away from the man beside me because his presence made me uncomfortable.

" Thank you for the ride Mr. Schulz. Have a nice evening." I said before getting out of the car and slammed the car door close.

I began making my way towards my apartment, both hands folded around my chest as I am uncomfortably shivering from the gush wind.

Standing at the patio entryway, I fumbled the keys around my hands trying my best to stay still as I am badly shivering. As I was about to open the door, the keys from my hands suddenly fell to the ground.

Crouching down, I get the keys but the moment my eyes landed to the ground, something caught my attention.

I reach over to where it was and pulled it out from beneath the bench that was placed right beside my door.

It was a box. A black box with a matching ribbon on top of it.

Adrenaline floods my system, it pumps and beats like it is trying to escape as I read the letter that was attached to the box. I think my heart will explode and my eyes are wide with fear. My body wants to either run fast for the safety of the hills or to the crate of weaponry, but instead I remained to where I am.

I could not move. My body stopped functioning as I keep on reading what was written at the paper that I am holding right now. I can taste saliva thickening in my throat and beads of sweat thrickling down my brow, I re-read the letter again and this time my panick got worser.

This is not a nightmare, this time this is real.

"I am back."
