Chapter 16
I was running for my life. My wings were badly wounded and my legs were starting to give out. I yelled for my father until my throat was raw, but he never came.
I tripped and fell to the ground, sliding a few feet before coming to a halt. I tried to stand, but my legs refused to move. I cried out in pain, from my wings, to my legs, to my broken heart. This was it. I would die here.
All around me, demons hunters of all shapes and sizes blocked any possible escape route. The only way out was by air, but my wings were drenched in blood and too heavy and painful to lift. I looked at them with pleading eyes, but they only smirked.
"At last," someone said. "We can dispose of the last of her kind and ensure that this hideous type of monster will never again walk the earth."
Everyone else cheered. Everyone else except me, of course. I had tears in my eyes, blood covered wings and no one around to help me.
A hunter walked over to me, and held out a gun to my head. I looked at them, begging with my eyes for them to spare me.
The hunter removed their helmet, and I saw that it was a girl. A woman that I'd met before and trusted. She was smirking at me, and I almost fainted.
The woman was Maria.
"Sorry it had to end like this, Sweetie," she said, never losing that stupid smirk. "I really hoped someone else would do this before I had to, and, well, see you on the other side."
She put the gun to my temple, and loaded the gun.
Sorry, Mom. I thought, closing my eyes and preparing to take my last breath. It looks like I'll be meeting up with you a little earlier than expected.
I heard the bang of the gun, but felt no pain, and more importantly, I wasn't dead. I opened my eyes and looked up. I saw my father standing in front of me, and he had caught the bullet between his fingers.
I smiled at him, but the happy moment only lasted for a moment.
From somewhere behind me, I heard a gun fire, and the bullet was coming right for me.

I awoke with a start, gasping for breath. I was sitting up in the bed now, and sweating like a pig. I threw the blankets off of me and stood.
I knew I was alive, and now I knew that had only been a terrible nightmare of imagining the worst thing that could happen to me. I tried to stretch my wings some, but they still hurt like crazy. I sat back down on the edge of the bed, knowing that getting any more sleep would not happen that night.
Just then, I heard something tap on the window. I jumped up and looked to see what it was, but there was no one there. I blamed the wind or rain, and laid back down on the bed.
I heard the tap again, only louder this time. I folded my wings as tight as I could with the bandages against my back, and hid under the blanket.
I heard the window open, and someone climb inside. I peeked from under the blanket and saw a man in a lab coat standing in the middle of the room. The room was dark, but it looked like he had jet black hair, and his back was slightly hunched over. It looked almost like...
Oh my gosh!
It was Maria's husband. He turned and looked at me, smiling.
"Hello," he said, holding up a knife. "I think you've been running around our world for far too long now. I'm going to have to put an end to that.... And your life!"
I screamed for Maria.
"She won't get here in time to save you," he said. Then he lunged at me.
