-One Minute-
The whole arena burst into an uproar. There were several shouts of disbelief and some students leapt to their feet. Summer was dumbfounded; Winter had a Special Power?
Special Powers were ultra rare. Only those who were double-types had the chance to have a Special Power, which is the power to combine both elements that you had into a whole new element that was stronger. If Summer remembered correctly, Autumn Ariand was a double-type who was also fire type. He had a Special Power called 'Sandstorm', which is pretty much what it's name states. 'Sandstorm' was an impressive Special Power, as it would make the victim caught in the sandstorm either hallucinate to death, or suffocate to death.
No one has ever escaped Autumn's sandstorms. No one. Summer shivered as Winter smiled calmly at Aqua, who was standing rooted to the spot in a state of temporary paralysis.
Ice Craft. What was that Special Power? It sounded strange, yet significant at the same time. Mr Clarke asked for silence, and the arena quieted down. "That sounds interesting, Winter. All of us can't wait to see your 'Ice Craft'. But the match must go on," He said. Winter dipped his head respectfully.
Aqua produced a small coral wand from her witch hat and got into her battle stance. Winter just stood there coolly. He didn't look like he had a weapon. "Alright! Weapons up, power charged, FIGHT!!" Aqua began to fire a series of Water Shots at Winter. But with a wave of his hand, the water changed course, turning back to Aqua instead. And with two fingers pointed at her calmly, Winter let loose a tornado. The two elements merged, and the water spread out, covering the tornado till it became an Ocean Rider, a water tornado.
Gasps filled the air as Aqua was sucked up into it, screaming and flailing, trying to escape, and was spun around in circles in the water.
Then the Ocean Rider dispersed, and Aqua landed with a thud on the ground, soaked to the skin. And she wasn't moving.
Dreadful silence settled in the arena as the spectators saw Aqua suddenly cough out water and throw her hat down in a gesture of surrender, before falling unconscious once more.
Mr Clarke's mike clattered to the ground, the high-pitched sound it made breaking the silence. Mr Clarke hurried to pick it up again.
Winter stood in the exact same position he had been in before the battle started, looking faintly bored, yet his eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
Summer's breath hitched in her throat. Impossible... The battle had happened so quickly. It had only taken... "One minute," Mr Clarke whispered, his voice echoing eerily through the arena.
"One. Minute." he repeated, his voice growing with excitement. Slow claps broke out among the spectators. Then it became applause. And quickly escalated to cheering. Winter looked around in bewilderment, wondering why in the bloody world would everyone start clapping like as if he had defeated both Autumn Ariand and Spring Gardenia single-handedly.
"That's my brother!" Glade's voice rang out above all the cheers and hoots. The girls screamed fanatically as Winter just shrugged helplessly and smiled. Summer felt a strange feeling course through her body. She felt like strangling something.
Winter was not only a genius; he was almighty as well. Maybe finally, finally, there would be someone who could challenge her and rival her strength.
"Perhaps we have found someone who could finally beat the Queen!" Mr Clarke commented loudly, echoing her thoughts. Winter looked puzzled for a moment, then met Summer's eyes and realization dawned on him. He smiled sweetly at her, and Summer's heart did a loop.
She was the Queen. For she was untouchable in battle. But now, Winter was going to make her fall. She seethed quietly as everyone else chanted for the battle between her and Winter. Aqua's body had been removed, and the water that had stained the ground had been automatically cleaned up.
She would never lose to someone like Winter. He had mocked her just because she was a girl; that was unforgivable. She was going to prove to Winter that she was stronger than him.
Summer saw Winter staring amusedly at her, and she glowered at him. His expression remained the same, though his smile only grew wider, his eyes glowing brighter. Summer faltered. The way he was looking at her was... strange. No boy had ever looked at her with such kindness and humour before. The boys she knew would whisper about her, gossip about her, and try to avoid her.
Her heart lifted a bit. Maybe Winter wasn't so bad after all. She continued to stare at Winter, who stared right back, not noticing that the clamour had died down. She was enticed by those beautiful blue eyes of Winter's that looked like arctic oceans. He was beautiful.
The more Summer thought about it, the more she realised that Winter wasn't as handsome as she thought. He was frighteningly handsome, looking like a glacier drifting slowly in an ocean under the sunshine, light glinting off frost. His outfit pretty much completed the look.
"Ahem, Ms Solveg. Would you like to have a duel with Mr Winter? He is waiting." Mdm Justifer announced, snapping Summer out of her daze. She thought for a moment.
"Yes," she finally answered. "I do." Winter smiled, pleased.
"But not now," he said to the crowd of anticipating spectators. "Perhaps at the end of the day, the last few minutes?" Mr Clarke nodded and gestured for Winter to leave the field.
Winter returned to his seat beside Summer and gave her a thumbs up, before watching as Mr Clarke announced the next two competitors.
"What's your Ice Craft like?" Summer couldn't help but ask. Winter cocked his head at her, giving her an amused look.
"I can't tell my weaknesses and strengths to an enemy can't I? Of course, you'll know soon shortly." Winter added after noticing Summer pout.
Summer stared down at the field as a furious battle raged on, trying to suppress her overwhelming feeling of excitement. She was going to fight Winter. And she was going to prove to him that she was better than him.
She had to win.
No matter what the costs.
