Together, Again
Translucent blue, sparkling white
dripping from the heavens on a stormy night;
the thunder crashed; the lightning flashed bright.
We were running away, away from the sight
of the cruel world that never understood our plight.
We were running away, driving through the dead of night.
The road was dark and endless, too.
But we drove on, didn't know where to.
The skies flashed white as the storm grew
harsher and louder, while the lightning guided through
the ominous night, me and you:
star-crossed lovers to whom escaping wasn't new.
Your red car shimmered in the rising twilight
that came into view as you turned the car right.
Then, it multiplied, the crimson in my view,
as the car crashed. The storm ceased to brew.
Screams, cries, wailing encore,
a million different sounds echo
in our ears as we stand in the rain,
tears pouring out, taking with them the pain
that you and I suffered a lifetime ago.
We hug each other. We drown our sorrow
under the umbrella, in a kiss: fervent, not vain,
thinking, "Not this time, never again."
