O Sweet Selene
With a bottle of rum
Atop the rooftop I hum
This nyctophile I've become
Awaiting...
Ah! The night has come.
Beyond a glimpse doth she bestow upon me
A colossal crystal-white pearl do I see
Big and bright
Just like you lit up my life
She lights up my night.
Night is when you and I meet
Night is when my heart is complete
Both together in the dark hour
Gazing up at one moon
Night owls, you and I are.
I scan the skies, searching for thee
Ah! There you are, shining down on me
O, beautiful brightest star tonight
I wish, I wish, for the black swathing my arm
To fade into white. For everything to be right.
I ask for too much. You are gone. Just another chapter
In my long lonely book. But our child, I named after
She who stayed with us, our love's understanding queen
Lending her light
for you to shine bright
Bless her sheen,
O sweet Selene.
So a couple of things in case you didn't realise.
1. Selene is the Greek Goddess of the Moon. And yes, the child was named after Selene.
2. The 'black swathing my arm' would be the black armband, the sign of mourning in the Western parts of the world.
