𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐧 & 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧 & 𝐌𝐞
Persistent lovers vie for my undying attention.
The Sun kisses my blushing cheeks
And strokes my freckled forehead
While the Moon enthrals me nightly,
Regardless of her appearance
Her power is constant.
I cannot shake the curious notion
That the Sun and the Moon are
Enamoured with me
Besides, I know the simple science of their combined essentiality:
He provides a high enough temperature to sustain life;
She regulates the oceans' tides.
But love, my dears, is not an exact science
And hence I turn to the stars and to the shadows;
"Why me?"
"Why not you?" They replied,
Although they could not disguise their jealousy—
For both stars and shadows are almost
Non-existent beside the Sun and the Moon.
The Sun and the Moon aid me;
For if he makes my cheeks sting with prickly heat,
She provides me with cool serenity.
If the Moon's distance upsets me,
The Sun turns his radiance to me.
Their actions are counter-active, I suppose.
I can never escape them
One — if not both — are always
Present in the vast skies above me.
Though it is not my fault
That I attract divine, celestial beings;
I suppose it's part of my nature
As I pray to the gods in my need.
Selene offers cool solace.
Helios gives warm comfort.
I wonder if they will
Support of dispute any future lovers.
Or whether they shall battle for my undying affection
For ever.
