3| Enitan
°°°°°•°°°°°
On walking in, we stepped into a huge meeting room, and the cool atmosphere which was enhanced with the air conditioners greeted us.
In the middle of the room was a long rectangular table, and from a guess, there were about sixteen-to-eighteen chairs around it.
Seated at the far end, was an elderly-looking man, whose skin was slightly reddish. On his head was a patch of grey hair which was like a wig latched to the core of his scalp. His face was slightly wrinkled, resembling much of an old granny's and when he parted his lips, my eyes widened to the fact that he was missing some teeth.
To his closest left, was a younger lookingyoungerlooking younger-looking woman, dressed in a maroon suit with her blonde hair curled to a side in a curly wave, and a small smile on her red lips.
To his right, sat one of the proudest singers in the whole of Africa - Rita Z.
She has been rumored to be very egoistic and rude, and the majority of those who had worked with her complained about her attitude, but I could not care less.
After all, if she's rude, then she's about to meet the greatest sass of her life.
"Keji D, a pleasure to finally meet you in person," The old man said, as he struggled to get to his feet, and the blonde beside him assisted.
Enitan notched me in the elbow, as he gently but deliberately pushed me forward to the man.
I shot him daggers and turned to the man with a smile plastered over my face.
"Same here, Mr....?"
The old man cracked a smile.
"Griffin Monterey," He answered.
My eyes popped out, as I stared at the man in disbelief.
I was standing in the presence of the most important music director in the whole world.
Griffin Monterey had been the reason for many big names in the music industry, and no less, he was a big name himself.
He had been known as 'The Incognito' as he barely showed his face to anyone.
Never had I thought that an eighty-year-old-looking man was behind the huge success story of many.
"Wow, I'm honored," I smiled.
Rita snorted, loudly.
"Enough with this, I have somewhere to be," She chimed in.
I threw her a killer glance – about to give her the reply she deserved, but a firm hand grasped mine and I turned to see Enitan beside me.
"Ignore her," He cooed.
I couldn't go against him, so, I refrained from giving the brat a piece of my mind.
After spending an eternity going over the terms and conditions, and signing the contract, we signed and sealed the agreement between Index, my brand, and Rita Z's.
Even though this was done between Dandelion and the blonde, Griffin's secretary, it felt as if I was the one undergoing the torture, as both I and Rita kept shooting death glares at each other.
I only wondered how I would be able to keep up with her shit for two whole years as I already see us breaking up in the first week.
After the formalities, we left Index.
Dan was dropped off in front of the office, while my secretary, Tina Fey, alighted to get some documents from the embassy, and I was left with Enitan who drove the car through the busy streets of Lagos.
Honestly, I was worn out.
I relaxed back on the seat, and placed my sweaty feet on the board of the car, as Enitan maneuvered his way through the horns and ruckus of traffic.
"You look exhausted," Enitan said, as he threw a glance at me.
"That's one word for it."
He smiled. "Then, how about we have some fun?"
I sighed.
Enitan's definition of fun was going straight to the club, and getting me to mingle with people.
I despised having to do this.
I'd rather go home and enjoy my 'me time.
He noticed my expression and pursed his lips.
"C'mon Keji, you need to get out of your comfort."
I eyed him. "Says who?"
Chuckling, he answered, "Me."
His smile disappeared as he became serious-faced.
"Keji, you need to step out of your hesitation, and learn to have fun."
I stared at his face for a while and bit my lower lip, trying to fight the puppy look he had on.
But, still, I had to turn him down, as always.
"No, Eni, the bed is where I'm headed to."
He huffed and turned back to face the road.
I knew he was never contented with my attitude, but he always kept trying.
"Fine, I'll let you return to your bunk."
I laughed.
"So, a mansion is now a bunk?"
"Without fun, it is," He simply said.
I placed my arm over his shoulder.
"I promise I'll go next time."
He snorted at this, but I chuckled and rested against him, almost pushing the gear in the process.
"You can't remain mad at me, Eni," I said, as I snuggled up to him.
This caused him to laugh, and I smiled to myself, as the car continued through the clogs of the road.
I turned my eyes to the window, as I watched the cars shuffle past us, and I couldn't help but recall how I had met Enitan.
He and I had been close to each other, but we didn't get to meet until I was ten. He lived with his grandmother in the apartment next door to mine and my aunt. We never spoke, only saw each other. He was older than me, and well, I had too many issues to care about making alliances.
From court trials and hearings to visiting child care services, and checking my parents in the cemetery, life was already hard for the young child I was.
This had made me enclosed to myself, and I found it hard to blend in with anyone or anything.
So, never in a hundred years, did I think I will have a friend like him.
The day we finally got to meet and talk was when my school had an interstate sports competition with his.
Somehow, I had wandered away from my group and got lost while he deliberately left the games to stay in the dark forest.
On meeting him, I found that we were so much alike, and yet, so different.
Enitan wanted his parents gone, while I wanted mine back. But, this had somehow pulled us together, and from that day onwards, we just never left each other.
"Keji?"
Looking up from my thoughts, I realized that we were already at the entrance to my home.
I felt my face warm up at the thought of home. This was nothing like home, but over the years, I had to get accustomed to this.
After all, this was better than sleeping in an orphanage.
As Eni drove the car under the blue coverings that made up the garage, I watched his face, realizing that he was probably still disappointed that I never give in to his words, and I felt my heart drop as I realized how many times he had tried to keep me sane, meanwhile, he battled with his demons.
I have been so unfair to him, and the least I could do was to cause a smile in his beautiful dark eyes.
"Hey, Eni."
He threw me a glance. "Yes, Keji?"
"About the club," I said.
His brows curved up.
"What about the club?"
My lips shifted up, as I smiled.
"Well, it's not too late to get an entrance, is it?"
His face instantly lighted up as soon as the words left my lips, and his smile fell right back on.
"You serious?"
I frowned. "Till I change my mind."
"No. God. No." He immediately chimed in.
"So?"
His smile deepened.
"Off to Ravishing the Night."
I rolled my eyes at him, as he reversed the car out of the house, and we were soon back on the asphalt road, headed to the busiest club in all of Lagos – The Ravishing Nightclub.
