Chapter 6
"Good night boys, mwah!" Katie called out softly later that night, blowing a kiss to her son and the three dogs in Liam's bedroom. She quietly shut the door behind her, leaving a blissful silence in the room. Liam and Duke were already fast asleep. But Max, laying on his back on the little kid's bed, was wide awake.
Staring at the ceiling, Max sighed. How could he be so stupid and reckless? He was always putting himself in dangerous situations. He was always getting lost or captured. And it was always his friends who had to come get him. They put themselves at risk just to come and rescue him.
All. The. Time.
"I'm a horrible friend..." Max mumbled to himself. Careful not to wake up Liam from his slumber, the Jack Russell terrier rolled over onto his side. Now he found himself staring blankly at a wall. The small dog tried searching for any kind of distraction from the various pieces of artwork Liam had drawn and hung up. But there was no escape from his nagging thoughts. He was a horrible friend and his actions had consequences. He sighed again.
"Max, if you don't quit sighing like some depressed old fool," Rooster's growl caught Max off guard, "I will pick you up and take you to the vet myself."
