Chapter 5
I managed to avoid telling the rest of what I knew to the guys for about a week. We spent the time planning the wedding and inviting friends. I even took the guys to Henry's house to meet him. But I knew I was stalling. It was only a matter of time before everything bottomed out.
Since the night I was shot, I spotted several other snipers but managed to stay hidden from them. Mom and Dad had were currently out of town looking for a wedding cake, so I decided it was time to tell the guys everything. I slowly walk through the house, but found it empty. Picking up my phone, I call Luke. It goes to voicemail so I try John. He answers after the second ring.
"Ella, what's up?"
"Where are y'all?"
"Oh, we're hanging with Henry and the guys."
"Cool. Listen, I need to talk to you, Sam, Jason and Luke. Y'all need to get back to the house soon."
"Can't it wait Ella?" I sigh softly and look out the window. "Yeah John it can wait. Listen, I'm going to go for a run. Call me when the four of you get home." Before I hang up, I hear Luke's voice. "Babe, is everything alright?"
"Everything's fine Luke. I was just wanting to tell y'all the rest of what I know's coming, but I can wait for y'all to get home. I'll talk to you then." I hang up and slip my phone into my back pocket but only after I make sure it's on silent.
I slip out of the house and into the woods. It doesn't take me long to find the hidden trail that leads to the cabin. Walking through the thick woods, I let my mind slip. I stop walking just inside the tree line, the cabin just sixty yards before me. Looking around, my eyes land on a man watching the cabin and I know instantly who it is.
"Carlos!" I call out softly, but he hears me. He turns and locks eyes with me. I nod towards the cabin and he nods at me. I walk up to the back door and open it, stepping into the cabin. WIthin seconds, Carlos enters behind me. "Hello Ace." I smile at him. "How've you been Carlos?"
"Good, good. And you?" I shrug. "Things were going good until I lost my arm. But that's life. I know why you're here." He looks at me surprised. "You do?"
"Yeah. You're here to collect the 4 million dollar bounty that someone placed on my head. But you decided that since I saved your life that you can't kill me. So, you want to fake my death, collect the money and give me a new life in Texas."
"H-How did you know?" I smile slowly. "You could say that I saw it in a dream."
"So what do you want to do Ace?"
"First thing, I'd like you to pull the snipers in town out. I already have enough bullet holes to last me a life time." He chuckles at my tone of voice and I smile. "Secondly, I'm going to need a few weapons. Preferably guns with silencers on them. Do you think you could get them for me?"
"Yeah, that won't be a problem. Who are you going after?"
"The idiot who placed the bounty on my head."
"How? I mean, I don't even know who that is."
"The same why I knew what you were doing here Carlos."
"I'll have the guns here in five days. I'll bring them to the cabin."
"Thanks Carlos. Oh, and do me a favor after you deliever the guns."
"Sure, what is it?"
"I want you to head down to Lago, Texas. There's a little diner in town with a waitress named Lucy. After you drop those guns off, go there and get to know her, ask her out on a date and marry her." He looked confused and I chuckle softly. Before I could say anything he speaks. "Another one of those things you saw in a dream huh?"
"Yeah, you could say that. So, will you do it?"
"Anything for you Ace."
"Oh, and that knock out agent you made. You should sell it to the military. They'll pay handsomely for it."
"I'll think about it." He says as he hands me a card as he turns to leave. "If you need anything, call me and it's done." I watch him leave. I suddenly realize that my phone was viberating in my pocket. I pull it out and see that John was calling me. "Hello?"
"Ella! Where are you? We've been trying to call you for the past twenty minutes."
"Sorry John, I went for a walk in the woods and lost track of time. Are y'all home?"
"Yeah, we are."
"Alright, I'm on my way back. Meet me in the back yard." I snap my phone close and sprint out of the cabin. Keeping my pace, it takes me just a few minutes to reach my back yard. When they saw me, they swarmed me. "What were you thinking Ella, going off in the woods alone?"
"You could have been shot again. Or worse."
"What did you want to talk about?" I look at each of them and smile. "Guys, even with one arm, I can still keep my own in a fight. Second, the snipers are gone. And third, it concerns the bounty on my head." They become quiet as we walk back to the picnic table and sit down.
"I didn't tell you guys everything because I thought that I could somehow keep it from happening. But getting shot the other day let me know that nothing can change what's coming, but we can change the outcome. An old friend got ahold of me today and he's going to bring us a few weapons..."
"Wait, why do we need weapons?" John asked confused. "Because we're going after the man who placed the bounty on me. I know who he is and where he is. The problem is, you're not going to like it when I tell you who it is. It's General Caine." They just stared at me and I looked them back in the eye.
"Caine? Caine's the one who has everyone out there trying to kill you?" I nod once. "The wedding's in a week. We'll take care of him, come back, get married and then the guys and I will head back to the base for our mission." Luke spoke up. I look at him but he doesn't look me in the eye.
"If you want Luke, we can have the wedding before we go after Caine. I could after him by myself. He won't have but just a small handful of men around his house. I could take him..."
"We're not going to let you face him alone Ella. Are you nuts?!" Luke shouts at me. I glare at him. "No I'm not nuts Luke. But I have a better understanding of what's waiting for me, us, at his house. And if I lost you or one of the guys there it would kill me. You know that. I can't lose you." I say standing to my feet. The guys looking between us, worried.
"I won't let the woman I love face someone as daranged as Caine alone and without back up. As much as it would kill you to lose one of us Ella, it would be the end of my world if you were killed. So, it's either we do this as a team, or the guys and I do it alone." I glare at him but he doesn't back down.
"Fine. Fine, if that's how you want it, that's how it'll be. My parnets will be back tomorrow. Thursday we get married and Friday leave for D.C."
"Wait, he's in D.C.?" I roll my eyes. "He lives in D.C. Sam. He's a big shot, how else could he afford to put that much on my head?" I sigh and look towards the house. "I'm going to go fix some dinner and pack. You should do the same." I turn and start to slowly walk back inside the house.
Half way to my room Luke catches up with me. He wraps his arms around me and holds me tightly. "I'm sorry for yelling at you babe, but whenever I think of you getting hurt or dying, it kills me inside."
"I understand Luke. I do." He kisses me softly and I smile at him. "Go pack, and then you can help me cook something for us to eat." I laugh at the look on his face but he just smiles and heads to his room. If Caine tried to put a bullet in any of my guys, I would presonally put one right between his eyes.
