apparently staying out during winter wasn't such a bright idea, as the priestess was now bedridden, experiencing a high fever.

"look what you did to mama! now she's going to die!", nozomi wailed, making sukuna flick the girl on the forehead.

"she's not going to die. she just needs some rest and you two are disturbing her", the demon king scowled, feeling the miko's forehead with the back of his hand.

"I'm fine", kiyo coughed out, making sukuna snort.

"it's okay mama. nagi-san's already making you some special get well soup! and we'll stay beside you the entire day", nozomi exclaimed.

kiyo weakly smiled.

"I'm sorry darlings, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea considering you both are still half-human and could catch my fever", kiyo softly mumbled.

both kitsunes' ears drooped, along with their heads, making kiyo let out a nasally chuckle.

"how about once I get well we can all play together in the snow? with many layers of clothing of course".

nozomi perked up at that idea, clapping her hands together as hakaku had furiously nodded.

"okay!! get better faster mama! we'll go help out nagi-san", nozomi said as she pulled hakaku up, running off.

kiyo quietly sighed as she then diverted her attention to the demon king, who had made no attempt to get out of the futon.

"will you not be getting ready today? I'm afraid I'm not in the condition to entertain you as of currently", kiyo sniffled, pulling the blanket up to her neck as she felt like a sushi roll.

"ah, that reminds me that I have somewhere to go. I'll be back later", sukuna stated as he quickly kissed kiyo's nose as he left, leaving the priestess all alone.

kiyo had secretly wished that sukuna would've stayed, but didn't exactly mind, as uraume was soon sent in to read to the miko, per sukuna's request.

"why're you not in bed? and where's uraume?"

"why're you holding a stack of papers?", kiyo asked, avoiding sukuna's questions.

"answer me first".

kiyo sighed. "I got bored of staying in bed. it makes me feel like I'm wasting my day. plus, it's not like I'm running around or anything", kiyo smiled, continuing her sewing as she decided to make something for fushiguro, since his present was beyond significant.

"and what about the papers?", kiyo asked, eyeing them as sukuna had swiftly shoved them in the drawer.

"nothing much", the demon king answered, refusing to admit that he had visited the old man from the village and asked about how humans got married.

"what are you even making?", sukuna huffed, looming over the girl who was sewing a black and a white dog on the chest area of the haori.

"it's for megumi", kiyo smiled, proudly showing sukuna what she's done so far as the male just scoffed, taking a seat behind the priestess.

"megumi, megumi. what the fuck did megumi even do?", sukuna scoffed, wrapping his arms around the miko as he laid his head on the girl's right shoulder.

"he got me a koto...I haven't played one in a while", kiyo mumbled.

"then why don't you play it for me right now?", sukuna grinned, to which kiyo had softly chuckled.

"I'll play it for you once I get used to it again. I refuse to embarrass myself in front of you", kiyo stated, threading a red string through the needle as she needed to make the three red dots on the shikigamis' foreheads.

"we're about to get married and you're worried about being embarrassed? I assure you, there's nothing more embarrassing than you not calling me your husban—"

"I will in do time, so quit distracting me", kiyo bashfully smiled, making sukuna only hum.

"but I wanted to talk to my future wife about our wedding", sukuna followed up.

"I think we'll need to cut out a lot of steps for our wedding. we can improvise", kiyo suggested.

"hah?! why?"

"part of it requires us to get purified by a priest or priestess. do you want to get exorcised?"

"yeah, because some random shrine maiden or male is gonna purify me, on OUR wedding day", sukuna mocked, rolling his eyes.

"you never know, and plus, we have to serve a cup of sake to our parents, but obviously none of ours is alive, so I'm thinking satoru should take that place", kiyo suggested.

"absolutely not! I'd rather take some random old couple from the side of the road than serve your brother sake!"

"you know...he's soon to be your brother too", kiyo teased, to which she could feel the demon king scrunch up his face in disdain as he mumbled something beneath his breath.

"but honestly, we don't have to have a wedding ceremony if you don't want to. there's a lot of prep work that goes into it and it is quite a hassle", kiyo stated.

sukuna then lowly chuckled; his breath fanning the priestess's ear.

"if my wife wants a wedding, we'll hold the most lavishing one there is".

kiyo nearly pricked her finger as she leaned her face away, as she felt her face heat up — not from the fever.

"then...how about the month of june? it used to be named minazuki (the month of water), which is when rice fields are flooded with water. hence the symbol of fertility", kiyo explained, having to clearly put a lot of thought into this before.

"oho? and anything else?", sukuna smugly asked, as he's also heard about that from the chief of the village.

kiyo cleared her throat as she slightly shook her head.

"nope", she lied, making sukuna's grin widen as he hummed, sending vibrations down the girl's neck.

"are you sure? I thought humans really appreciated planned pregnancies. it's easier to avoid the undue stress of going into labor during the sweltering summer months".

kiyo dropped her project that she was working on as she snapped her head around and pinched sukuna's cheeks.

"don't say that", she harshly whispered, beyond embarrassed at how open sukuna was with these things.

"what? it's true", the demon king chuckled as he held the girl's hand, placing butterfly kisses on her knuckles.

"how about the tenth of june, 1489? I heard it's good fortune", kiyo said, now laying her head on sukuna's shoulder as the male could feel the priestess's warm forehead pressed against his neck.

"1489?! isn't it 1487 right now?!"

"mhm!"

"that's too far away. make it june tenth, 1488", sukuna demanded.

"but we still have to get the preparations and—"

"I've already decided on a place, and as for the guests...do you want to spite anybody?"

kiyo raised a brow, making a confused expression.

"well you know, like maybe the higher ups. wouldn't they be elated", sukuna snorted, imagining all their expressions as they get invited to their wedding ceremony.

kiyo laughed as she shook her head.

"that reminds me, I have to consult his majesty about this, as I need his blessings", kiyo suddenly remembered.

"huh? why would you need that old man's blessings? did you have to do this for the other guy too?"

"because I'm part of the gojō clan that served his majesty, so of course I need his blessings. and yes, for both of the—"

"BOTH?! WHO THE HELL DID YOU ENGAGE TO BEFORE THAT OTHER ONE?!"

kiyo slightly flinched as it was a slip of a tongue on her part.

the girl awkwardly smiled as she squeezed sukuna's hand, almost as if she were preparing him for her answer.

"zenin naoya".

sukuna made a face of disbelief and detestation.

"what is with your taste in men?"

"I wonder", kiyo quietly muttered, making sukuna gasp.

"I was just kidding", kiyo laughed, caressing sukuna's face as she placed a quick kiss on the tip of his nose.

"and plus, he wasn't my choice, and I broke off our engagement once my parents died".

"thank the lord you did. imagine marrying a narcissist", the yōkai scoffed.

kiyo gave sukuna a look.

"that doesn't respect women", the demon king continued.

"but I on the other hand, am different", sukuna boasted.

"yes yes, because the great demon king respects women", kiyo chuckled, continuing on her present for fushiguro as sukuna huffed.

"I do! I respect my bride, and that's enough".

"what an honor coming from my future husband".
