COVE WILL NEVER BELONG.

  The curse of the selkie: she's trapped between two separate worlds, hardly accepted in either. In the cold embrace of the sea, she yearns to stand on two legs and feel the sand against her flesh, but the feeling of being a human sickens her. Life is unbearable when conflicted. Her mother's colony has always been accepting when she grows tired of her parents and needs time away, but it's evident that she's not to overstay her welcome. Sometimes, she doubts that she'll ever find a real home.

  Love is mythology in her house. Over a decade ago, her father had lured her mother from the rocky beach and into his arms, promising her things of happiness in his world and unconditional romance. But, in the dead of night while she slept, he stole her sealskin and trapped her under his authority — she'll only regain her freedom if he decides to return it to her, which he never would. She was coerced into marrying him, confined to his shabby cottage on the beach as she yearns to be free again. To see her family without being shackled to land, to swim away into the depths of the sea and never have to see her wretched husband again. She's always silently resented her daughter as well, jealousy blinding her motherly affection. Was there ever any to begin with?

  Cove is helpless. She's tried to free her mother behind her father's back, but every failed attempt just riles her up more. Their relationship is irreparably torn down the middle, shattered like sea glass. Her mother curses her for going to Hogwarts, claiming that she's growing too human. That she's betraying her species. Yet, her father scorns her when she disappears into the dark waters, disapproving of how the selkies are 'corrupting' her. She's at a constant crossroads, trapped between humanity and a life forever underwater.

  She's always felt alone. Nobody has ever accepted her — until a scarred boy with a furry little problem comes into her life and begins to pick up the pieces.
