-Captured and Dazed-

-Violet's P.O.V-

I'm not sure how long I've been unconscious for. I open my eyes slowly, dazed and confused. A wave of intense pain forms in the back of my head. I try to lift my hand to massage the spot but instead I can't seem to move my hands. I glance down, in this dimly lit room, I notice my hands are bound together by thick handcuffs. I gasp which only causes the throbbing to worsen. Panic rises in my chest, where am I ?

My eyes fall heavy, how long have I been asleep? Memories flash across my mind, we were under attack. My eyes gloss over with fresh tears, the last memory I have before falling unconscious is my brother bleeding out in front of me. I hope he made it, the tears stream down my cheeks. Why would someone attack us? How can I live knowing I didn't save my brother ?

Oh no, my father! I hope he made it. The thought of my family pains me. Will I ever see them again?

Then my heart sinks, I gasp in fear, this time not feeling the pain in the back of my head, "did aspen make it?" My quiet voice fills the silent void around me.

The tears flood my vision, my body shakes uncontrollably. I can't even wrap my arms around myself for comfort. How could someone be so cruel to hurt us like this? I look down to the sea glass necklace aspen had given me moments before the attack and for some reason the glass burns against my chest. I want to remove it, to stop the burning, why is it burning?

I twist in my spot, and lean forward to avoid the glass from touching my chest, I don't understand why it feels like a fire ignited in my chest. I Yelp in pain, it's a strange noise. I try to scream for help but my voice seems to disappear at my attempts. I lean against a crate and try to pull myself up, and fail twice.

Shouting forms above me, an argument seems to have broken out. My heart races in fear, I try to stand again, but with my legs tightly pressed together with rope seems to be no use. I fall against the wooden floor and the ship rocks side to side, bouncing me between the crates. My hair is a mess, it's fallen completely loose from my braid.

I try to pull myself up against a crate, using the handcuffs to my advantage and this time I succeed.

"You can't have her! She isn't who you're looking for!" The words echo loudly. I freeze for a moment, her? Who are they talking about? I can't make out the rest of the conversation, it's quickly covered by many roaring voices shouting all at once. It causes the ship to sway even more.

"Ah great! You're awake." A voice startles me, but I remain standing, leaning against the crate.

The bearded man comes into view, knots form in my stomach but anger floods my vision. He walks closer to me and reaches out to grab me.

I jump back and hit the wall behind, "stay away from me!" I scream. My voice is unrecognizable. Almost a shriek.

He stares at me with wide eyes, "can't let you scream out here in the sea." It doesn't take him more than a second to pull me into his grasp. Confusion spreads across my mind, what did he mean by that? I try to fight against his grip but he holds me firmly and covers my mouth with his hand. He carries me over to the stairs leading to the upper deck. The sun burns my skin, the throbbing pierces my brain. Why does it hurt so much?

"Violet!" A voice shouts amongst the crowd. His voice awakens something in me, I pick my head up immediately and search the crowd. I scan over all the unfamiliar faces until I see his face. Aspen is alive! A wave of relief washes over me. His face stands out against the sea of thieves. My half smile drops when I notice he's tied against a pillar along with my father's crew members. I try to scan the crowd again for my Father and Brother but I'm suddenly in a dark room.

The bearded man sits me down in a chair, and lights a lantern, placing it on a desk. I stare at him intently, waiting for him to come near me. I think of all the ways I can easily hit his head with the handcuffs.

"Now, you stay put. The Captain will be here any minute dear." I want to tell him not to call me dear, each time he does, a wave of nausea forms. He inches close to my face, his breath smells of rotten fish. I try not to gag, "I hope he plans to keep you here, you're such a pretty-"

I lift my hands up, hitting below his chin with the cuffs. He steps back, processing what I just did. "You disgust me." I spit.

He raises his hand to strike me, I close my eyes waiting in fear. It's silent, then he gasps.

"Don't you dare lay a hand on her or I will kill you." A deep voice says. I suddenly feels shivers race down my spine. I'm afraid of opening my eyes, a lump forms in my throat. I recognize the voice, it's the Captain.

"She hit me-" the bearded man exclaims, he's immediately cut off, "I didn't give you orders to harm her, get out of my office, Now!" The Captain's voice roars, I try not to shake in my seat.

"Yes.. Sir-r.." I can hear the fear in his voice. His footsteps leave in a hurry. The door closes and suddenly I'm aware I'm alone with The Captain. My legs tremble lightly, what will he do to me?

"Hmm why do they have you tied up like this Love?" His voice comes out as calm, almost alluring. Far different than his voice moments ago. "You can open your eyes, I'm not going to hurt you." The floor creaks, I feel his hand touch my chin, it burns through. I turn slightly away, hoping he'll take his hand off. He chuckles lightly, "Well? Miss Marine, I don't have all day. Actually, I do. Maybe I'll keep you and your crew here forever."

"No!" I shout, my eyes still closed, my heart beating against my chest.

"Wow you do speak!" He says sarcastically, "Then open your eyes Love." I open them slowly, I hadn't felt how close he was to my face, I gulp and widen my eyes.

His eyes hold me in place, his eyes sparkle like emeralds, against his lightly tanned skin and dark hair. I've never seen eyes so bright, I'm mesmerized. His face appears young, although covered with a trimmed beard, he seems to be in his twenties. Too young to be a Captain. There's a scar across his cheek, for some odd reason, I want to reach out and trace it. And suddenly my mind flashes to his face in a different setting, like a memory replaying. He's staring at me the same way, with shorter hair and a clean face. He smiles brightly and that version of him disappears. I realize I'm still staring at The Captain, with wide eyes. What an odd vision, I've never seen this man before in my life. So why did I see him for a brief moment like a memory?

"See, I won't bite. Unless you want me to" he winks, his voice startles me and my cheeks flush warmly. I look away and remain silent.

"Will you at least say something?" He walks around his large desk and sits down, there's something about the way he carries himself, with so much arrogance. I can see a hint of curiosity form in his eyes. He stares at me, in silence. The corner of his lips curls, "Miss Marine? If you'd like to save your crew, I suggest saying something. Anything for that matter."

"Why.. why did you attack us?" My voice comes out in a whisper.

His eyes avert, From Upclose I hadn't noticed the darkness that framed his eyes but now from afar I see the way his eyes appear brighter against the grayish tones. "Your Father didn't want to negotiate, so I had to use a more effective solution." He shrugs in a bored manner.

Hearing him mention my father, brings fresh tears to my tired eyes. Where is my father?

"Now, don't cry love. Your Father is alright. Not in the best condition but under these circumstances, he's alive." The Captain smiles widely, I sit closer to the edge of the seat, trying to hold myself from shattering at his words. He's hurt my father. "So, if you don't want to end up like your poor father," his voice lowers, "I suggest you start cooperating." His voice stings a million needles all over my body, he's going to hurt me too.

"What do you want?" I cry quietly.

"Well you should at least assume by now? No? You're a marine. Kind of already makes you a target to anyone. You're a direct descendant of Maren Marine." He says mockingly. I stare at him confused, what does my great, great grandmother have to do with any of this?

"What does my ancestor have to do with you hurting my family?"

He stands and walks over to a window, he pulls the curtains open. His back faces me as he stares out to the sea. I suddenly get a hint of deja vu, as if I've seen this very moment before.

"Miss Marine, if you don't know, or if you do and you're only acting as if you don't, I'm going to tell you anyways. Your ancestor, Maren Marine was in love with one of the greatest thieves of their time. No one has ever come close to who he was. Everyone knows the story of the forbidden lovers. Maren and Ray fell in love. Her father disapproves, separates them and marries his daughter off to a wealthy man." The Captain turns to face me.

"This theif, Ray, buried very valuable treasure he stole days before Maren's wedding. In hopes of preventing her wedding to they could be together. Unfortunately he was lost in sea and came back many many years later. He met Maren again when they were older and handed her a piece of the map to his treasure." The Captain's eyes widen, almost in excitement.

"The Theif, now in his old age alongside Maren, promised that in their next life, they would unbury this treasure and live the life they wanted together. But, he had ripped the map in three pieces. He never told her where he placed two parts of the map and died. Maren kept the piece he had given and soon after she passed as well. So here's where your family comes in."

He inches closer to me, a devilish grin forms. "You see, I've been searching for the missing parts of the map and I have a feeling that Maren must have passed down her piece to her descendants. And your Father is my biggest target, he made a museum dedicated to the artifacts and heirlooms of the families in Crystal Bay. And we've been watching your family for sometime now, this sudden trip seemed all too odd, which is why we decided to take action. If you could help me, I'll let you and your crew go. It's not like you need the treasure anyways, you have everything you could ever want and more."

My mouth drops slightly, this is a lot to take in. Maren's story always seemed like a bedtime story my mother would tell me but never have I heard about a treasure. The Captain crouches in front of me, studying my face. This is all too surreal. How come my Father never told me about this?

"Nothing to add love?" His voice startles me from thought, what if I play along and pretend that I do know? Or what if he sees right through me? I battle the possibilities, I need to think of something to convince him of letting us go. There's no way this treasure story is real, right? I look into his eyes, he's a few inches away from my face. He observes me, he seems to be lost in thought as well. I notice a hint of awe as his eyes pierce through my skin.

"I don't know anything about a treasure. Even if it were real, and if I had the piece, I'd give it to you. As long as you let us go." I try to come off as calm and steady. He scans me for a moment, "let's say I believe you, would you really give up the treasure for your freedom?" It seems like a stupid question because who would say no? Mischief grows in his green eyes and it sends shivers running down my arms. Something about the way he's staring causes heat to rise in my face.

"Yes. You can have the treasure for our freedom. I can talk to my Father. If there is a map, I could convince him to hand it over. He'd do anything to protect his people. Please let me see him." I plead. I know my Father wouldn't let this drag out any longer. If he knows about the map he'll give it up as long as he saves us.

The Captain grins wickedly, "okay, you can see him. Keep your end of the deal and I'll let you all go." He pulls a knife out from his belt, "'Maybe after speaking to him, you'll realize you'll want to stay." In a swift moment, he cuts the rope around my legs.

My eyes widen, why would I want to stay? I almost question him but he pulls a key out of his pocket and leans in close, "I should probably remove these handcuffs, unless you'd like to keep them on." I shake my head in disagreement, he sighs and I see him smile slightly but it quickly fades. With one hand, he holds both of mine and gently let's go once the cuffs open.

I'm stuck to the seat, unable to move my legs. I'm free, I'm not bounded by anything but silence. What if the treasure is real? Why haven't I heard about it till now? This is all so much to process, my family wouldn't keep this hidden would they? Does Ray know, is that way he came with us? I notice The Captain hasn't moved an inch, he's still kneeling in front of me. Curiosity sets fire in his bright eyes. He seems to be trying to read my face, maybe wondering what my next move will be. I'm not sure why I can't shake the feeling of familiarity in his presence.

He sighs loudly in annoyance, "you can follow me, or not. Your choice." He lifts himself up by using the arm rest from the chair. I try to stand but my legs are weak. I need to snap out of it, I need to be strong for my family. I know I can do it. I confidently stand, The Captain grabs my arm lightly as if to make sure I don't lose my balance or maybe to make sure I don't make a mistake. I don't flinch at his touch, it's an odd thing to think I could maybe trust him. I shake the thought away as quickly as it comes, he's hurt my Father, there's no way he won't hurt the crew or me.

He guides me to the door and opens it, the sun still burning into my skin. I want to scream, im not sure why i feel the urge to do so. It's just the sun.

On the upper deck, many men are gathered around my Father's crew, they all shout incoherent threats. I scan the crowd in hopes of seeing my brother but there's no time once again. The Captain pulls my arm down the stairs below deck. He takes me into a long hallway, the ship is much larger than my Father's. There's many hallways and stairs, one could easily get lost in this labyrinth. I notice how much taller The Captain is and how fast he walks. My legs seem to have gotten firmer, but they're not long enough to be walking this fast.

We finally reach a door, The Captain turns to me, "Remember our deal, if you try anything, I will kill your Father, His Crew and You." His threat pierces through my throat, I nod in understanding and walk through the door.

"Father!" I gasp, I can barely speak without choking. My heart sinks at the sight, he's on the floor, bloody with wounds over his arms and legs. I have never seen my Father harmed in any way. He lifts his head up and i notice he sighs in relief. I run into his arms, "I'm so sorry."

"My dear Violet you're alive. I hoped you were. I'm so sorry you have to see all this." He holds me in his arms.

"What's going on? Why are we here?" I whisper, i untangle myself from his arms, i want to face my Father. I need to know what's going on and how much of the truth was The Captain telling me.

My Father takes a deep breath and looks around the empty room, "The Captain seeks for treasure. I had no idea until a few days ago when your grandfather Archie called and mentioned it briefly over the phone. Which is one of the reasons for this trip, I wanted to know the story and head to see my parents. But I'm not sure how The Captain got hold of the information." He stares at the wall, lost, he's thinking of something but isn't saying more.

"Do you think they'll let us go if you explain that to him?" I ask, i hope my Father knows how serious the Captain seems.

"Never." My Father mutters.

My eyes widen, "what do you mean?"

He stands up, angrily. His hands form fists at his side. "We can't give him the treasure. It doesn't belong to him. We are going to fight for what's ours."

I look up in shock, I've never seen my Father this angry before. "If we don't give him anything, he's going to kill your crew and us."
Panic rises and i jump up to my feet, I'm trying to quickly think of the right words to convince my Father but it's too late. He walks straight out the door, in a hurry. I run after him in confusion, what is he doing?

"Father stop! Please, we need to save everyone." I plead, he completely ignores me. I look around the hallway, trailing as fast as I can behind my Father. This ship is very familiar, where have I seen it before? The paintings that hang against the walls are ripped and burned. I can't make out the paintings but by the time I pass by one that isn't damaged, we've already reached the stairs to the upper deck. My Father immediately runs up the stairs, The Captain stands tall in the middle of the deck surrounded by his crew. They're shouting at my Father's crew with their backs towards us.

"I can assure you Captain, you will never have my treasure." My Father roars amongst the crowd. The Captain turns slowly, his eyes fall onto us, and briefly flicker to me and stares at my father once again. His stare, sends shivers down my spine. My heart loudly pounds against my chest. I can't seem to look away from The Captain's eyes. They've trapped me in place.

"What did you just say?" He spits, his voice is low and threatening. His crew stands silently around, staring at their leader.

"You can rummage through my ship and tear it piece by piece but you will never find the piece of the map you're looking for. If you are not a marine, you'll never have the mind to unbury it." My Father's voice has changed, his voice is deeper. I stare at him, frozen.

"Oh really?" The darkness surrounds The Captains eyes, his eyes glow hauntingly. His brow raises in challenge, I'm terrified of what he's thinking. He walks slowly to us, "Then what should I start with first? Should I kill your crew, one by one before getting to you? Or..." his eyes peak behind my Father, "Should I kill your Daughter first?"

My Father puts his arm in front of me. "You don't have to kill anyone. I'm heading to Saltdeep Bay, there's more information there. Let my crew and Daughter go. Take me instead."

"Father no!" I stand between them, facing the Captain. I can't let him take my Father. The Captain takes a deep breath, "Hmm I won't take you Captain Marine. You and your crew are free to go. But," a hint of mischief dances across his eyes, "you daughter stays with me."

My mouth falls in horror, he smirks, amused by my reaction. He grabs my arm, pulling me to him. My Father stands there, defeated. He remains silent. I struggle in his grasp and he holds me tighter, "She'll be much more useful than you."

"You can't have her, she isn't part of this." My father says quietly.

"She is a Marine, she's more than part of this." The Captain spits. I lower my head, if my life is the cost of my Father's freedom, then I'm willing to stay. I'll find a way to end this soon.

"Violet No! You can't stay !" Aspen's voice shouts. Tears begin to well in my eyes, oh Aspen, I'll be leaving him behind as long as he gets saved.

"Men, Carry Captain Marine and his crew back to his ship. Only hold back a few, we'll interrogate them soon." He barks his orders across the ship. In less than a minute, his crew starts taking them to my Father's ship. I reach out to my Father to say goodbye but the bearded man comes into view and pushes my father away. My father gives me a sorry look, it must pain him to know there wasn't anything we could do.

"At least let me say goodbye!" I shout at The Captain, he looks down at me in confusion.

"Your Father willingly gave you up and you still wish to say goodbye?" I stare up in anger. My father didn't give me up, we had no choice. I use my free arm and start hitting The Captain on his arm and chest. He doesn't flinch, he just stares at me with wide eyes, confused. He laughs, my anger boils. How could someone be so cruel?

"Let me take you to your new room." He lifts me up in his arms with ease and takes me below deck, down the stairs. I've become all too familiar with these hallways. After a few turns, he sets me down but doesn't let go of my arm. I try to pull myself away from him.

"How can I help you? If I don't know anything about this stupid treasure?" He stops and pushes me against the wall. He places his hand on the wall, next to my head and leans in closely.

"Do you like adventure?" His eyes narrow into mine.

My jaw drops slightly, why is he asking me such a question? "I don't understand..."

He leans closer and stops an inch away from my face. It's an odd position, no one has ever been this close besides Aspen. He leans in closer and i close my eyes immediately.

"Do you or do you not like adventure?" He whispers into my ear, his raspy voice causes my breathing to stop. He places his other hand against the wall, trapping me between his arms. His breathing hitches, his breath smells of fresh mint. Very different than the bearded man. My head swirls, I'm not sure what his question means. I open my eyes slowly, he's staring at my face, analyzing every part. Until his eyes reach mine again, glowing brightly. I wonder if he knows how alluring they are.

"I do." I whisper. Unable to move from his sight.

"Well Love, I hope you're ready for the adventure of your life." He pulls away slowly and winks. "This is one you'll never forget."
