One True Love?
This is my entry for the Adventure/Valentine's Day competition. You guys know I suck at romance so I'm gonna do my best to write this as best I can. Wish me luck!
Cap'n
"Where are you, you half witted cur! I'll use your head as a trophy you dead brained Mulligan!" The Captain of the Wildfury pirates screamed from the cell.
"You dare cross me! I will torture you in every way I can think of! I'll rip out your gizzards and use them as rigging!"
A sharp slap and a groan echoed round the sea encrusted brig, thick with filth and god knows what. A spit of blood and a grisly tooth fell onto the mouldy floor, silence fell for a mere millisecond before a manic laugh echoed around the cell.
Four days of non stop yelling. He was tired of it. Yet no matter how hard he hit the prisoner in that bloody cell, they would not break. Too loyal to their crew and yet not an spec of loyalty to themselves. Mulligan was tired of the constant complaints of his crew that he had to shoot a few of them just to get them to shut up, it was a shame he couldn't do the same to her. It was like she was immortal, no starvation could silence her, no keel hauling could end her and not even the threat of death could faze her. The only thing she wanted was to be reunited with 'her love' again. Captain Mulligan would never had taken such a survivor for being such a sap.
......................
Captain Fury let out a frustrated yell as she tried to escape the chains she was trapped in, suspended in mid air in this barnacle encrusted cell. Being stuck here for four days allows a person to think, bar being tortured, abused and ridiculed. She was upset she had let herself get captured, let him down, let her crew down. She missed him. She missed the way his smile could brighten up any situation, he made her feel safe and it hurt her to hear of him trapped in such a horrid place. All her information had pointed her to Mulligan. To find her love wasn't here tore at her heart, pride and made her angry. Had she been fooled? Had she been left for dead?
She shook her head from the bad thoughts, she couldn't think like that. Her task was to rescue him, and beat the crap out of Mulligan for good measure.
Fury just hoped she could.
.........................
Captain Mulligan kept an eye on his crew as a sudden wind soon struck up behind them. He felt a chill in the air before a spec in the distance shot fear through his heart like a dagger.
"Full canvas!" He roared as the crew scamped up onto the deck to obey orders and unfurl the sails.
"Sir!" His first mate McGinty yelled, pointing into the distance as the slowly advancing spec grew bigger.
"Pirates on the starboard side! Advancing fast!" Another pirate yelled out.
"I can see that! Shake them off!" Captain Mulligan answered back sarcastically as he took to the helm, his blood red long coat trailed behind him. The matching scabbard swung at his side, his hand resting on the pommel desperate to sever the life of anyone who got in their way.
A scrawny crew mate scrambled onto the deck, only joining a few weeks ago ran up to him.
Perfect.
"Sir, we have a-" the young boy asked, before he was cut off by a gut wrenching scream.
"Problem." He finished, eying the Captain's deadly sword with fear as he fled from the scene in an instant.
He was quite quick on his feet considering the slick sea spray which covered the deck in a dark sheen. Not to mention the magnitude of the death glares that the two Captain's were giving each other. One out of slight amusement and the other, out of hatred.
The young pixie faced Captain was beaten up beyond belief, sporting a variety of bruises, cuts and a black eye due to Mulligan and his crew's handiwork. She flourished a dark black tricorn hat with gold piping as the red plumage at the back bobbed along with her surprisingly swift movements, despite her injuries. A matching longcoat and boots came with the attire, a stolen sword hung at her waist. Mulligan grinned a gleeful smile, he hadn't had a good fight in ages and despite gaining a weapon, this gutsy Captain was severely outnumbered twenty to one. A swift nod to his first mate was all that was needed to send the ship careering around to the port side, just as the enemy pirate ship advanced in on them.
The Grimhold slammed into the other ship's bow as both Captain's hung on for dear life. Many of Mulligan's men went sliding off the edge but their Captain cared less as he laughed at the slowly crumbling ship being decimated by the bulk of his cannons. Shrapnel flew everywhere as the Windsong was buffetted with everything the Grimhold could throw at them. Both ships swerved round like vultures circling their prey.
Then the fight began.
Both Captain's drew their swords in an instant, ferociously battling over the slick deck as crew mates from both crews catapulted themselves onto and off the deck using the slack ropes from the rigging and various grappling hooks and other weapons to engage in close combat, just as their Captain's did the same.
Explosions echoed throughout the seas but the two Captain's paid no mind, barelling over every obstacle possible, even a chicken had gotten caught in the mix of punches, gunshots and blades.
"WHERE IS HE?!" Captain Fury roared, her namesake becoming clear as day.
"Whatever do you mean?" Mulligan grinned slyly.
"You lying filthy codpiece! You need him because he has the map, that's all!"
Mulligan blocked her strong parry and cut her cheek in a flash.
"Insurance, my dear Fury. He is worth more as a bargaining chip than any thing more than you could ever imagine. He is, just a pawn after all. He doesn't have a choice! He, is no more than a toy. I don't know why you bother."
Fury fought back with a vengance and landed a punch to his gut. He fell backwards and sprawled on the floor before her knife was at his throat, her face was thunderous.
"Give him to me, or die by my blade." Fury threatened, her blade closing in on his throat.
Mulligan merely laughed coldly. He had yet to realise that his crew had been infiltrated and the remainders brutally beaten and slaughtered by the swiftness of her crew. No one saw it coming, hidden in plain sight they became members of the Black Hand pirates until they turned on them once their Captain 'broke free' and fought back. More than mutiny, pure betrayal.
They stood among the sidelines, those who surrendered were tied up beside the deck. All fighting had ceased, Mulligan clutched his neck in fear, now chained against the main mast, humiliated by the devastating defeat.
Captain Fury was happy once again. She was reunited with her crew and the whole reason she had part of her crew infiltrate the enemy crew was back in her arms.
Mulligan was pale faced an in shock as she watched Captain Fury embrace her love in a tight hug.
The whole reason for this intricate plan?
Captain Eyepatch.
Captain Fury's childhood teddy.
Seems she really was a softie.
