Taken Part Two -Mulder

He woke up, sunlight streaming in through the gaps in the curtains. It was still cold, though not as much as before. He registered Scully, lying asleep in his arms and instead of prying her fingers from his, he just lay there, smiling into her red hair. When he felt the gentle movements of her waking up, he pretended to sleep. Apparently it worked. Scully turned her head around to gaze at him. Slowly, he blinked open his eyes. She stared at him, pale face as beautiful as always. Her lips were curled in a slight smile, and her blue eyes shone in the early morning light.

"Wake up Sleepy Head. We've got to be at the Police Station at eight thirty. She rolled out of his arms, much to Mulder's disappointment. She headed to the bathroom, grabbing her clothes for the day. Mulder stood and yawned. He stretched, cracking his back as he did so. He started to make the bed as Scully walked out of the bathroom fully dressed. Her hair was still damp and stringy with water. "Your turn."

After getting ready for the day, they left to go to the Police Station. They grabbed two donuts and two coffees and arrived promptly at 8:30. Scully stepped out of the passenger door of their rental car, quickly followed by Mulder who was just finishing the last bites of his donut. When they entered the Greenville Police Station however, a loud, shrill voice met their ears. They winced and turned to face the woman who was yelling hysterically at a couple officers.

"-LIFE IS IN DANGER! I'VE GOT NO ONE AT HOME AND I COULD BE NEXT! WHAT DO YOU MEAN, NOT HERE YET? WHAT KIND OF CRUEL PEOPLE WOULD JUST LEAVE ME ALONE?!?!?!" Mulder walked toward the woman and prodded her back. He coughed awkwardly.

"Mary Wilkerson? My name is Special Agent Fox Mulder and this is my partner Dana Scully." Ms. Wilkerson spun around. Red colored her cheeks, as if just realising her protectors had heard her. Mulder took no notice, merely offering her a hand and a pleasant smile. Scully followed his example and offered her a hand. After the pleasantries, Mulder led her toward an interrogation room.

"Mrs. Wilkerson, we've got a few questions for you. Would you mind answering them for us?" He asked. Mrs. Wilkerson agreed and sat down. "Are you the only one at home?" Was Mulder's first question.

"Yes." She whispered.

"Were you the wife of Bert Wilkerson?" She nodded and stifled a sob.

"Do you have any close relatives or children Mrs. Wilkerson?" Scully asked, taking notes.

"Yes, and please, just call me Mary. I've got a daughter but she's off at college in Maryland." Scully nodded.

"Do you know what happened on the night that Allysa Thompson was taken?" Mulder this time. Mary gulped but nodded.

"It-it was just a normal night. Allysa was a good friend of mine, we lived a few miles away from her. We- we used to take an afternoon walk everyday. I'd walk to her house which was 2 miles away, meet her on her front porch. Then, together, we walked back to my house and we'd have a snack and talk. Then at 5:30, she'd start her walk back home. Well, on the night that she- she... I was standing on the porch watching her walk home. She was just about to round the bend when, something erupted out of the bushes. I was just able to catch a glimpse of it before it brought Allysa down."

"Can you describe what it looked like?" Scully asked.

"It was big, like a dog. After it grabbed her, I started to hear these terrifying sounds... Allysa was screaming and the dog... It started to drag her away. I-I tried to help really! I grabbed a shotgun and came out to shoot it but it was gone, not a trace except- except..."

"Go on Mary. It's alright."

"There was this person, standing where Allysa was. I couldn't tell what sex he or she was but they had longish blonde hair, pale skin, and wide green eyes. They were surrounded by her blood."

"Are there any other properties near your house, Mary?" Scully asked.

"Well.. There's an abandoned farm farther down the road."

"Thank you, Mary." Mulder nodded at her. "We'll be at your house at five, don't worry." Sighing in relief, Mrs. Wilkerson walked out.

"What do you think that was, Mulder?" Scully looked up at her partner. Mulder sat, staring at the place where the witness was. He could already see it in his mind, the setting sun, the wolf like thing, the man. It reminded him of something from the X-Files, though he wasn't quite sure what it was yet. "Mulder!" Scully shook his arm, startling him out of his thoughts.

"Hmm? Oh, we'll go get a face constructed out of the evidence we have. Let's go Scully." She sighed impatiently and muttered,

"That's what I was just telling you!" Mulder walked out of the room, followed quickly by Scully.

At five, they rang the doorbell to Mary's house. It was on the far outskirts of Greenville, surrounded by thick forest. They had passed by Allysa Thompson's house to search for clues but had found nothing. The door opened to reveal Mary's wide brown eyes and mousy brunnete hair. She was pale, paler than usual in fact. Mulder grabbed both their bags again and strode into the large house. It was cleanly kept with polished hardwood floorboards. Ornate rugs covered the floor and the leather couches arranged around the red brick fireplace completed the homy scene. Through another door, Mulder saw the neat kitchen and dining rooms and through the other, the staircase leading up to the second floor.

Scully closed the door to the house with a snap. After being led to separate rooms, they ate dinner. They settled down in front of the fire as a clock above them chimed the hour. Seven.

"Before we go to bed Mary, we'd like to show you a few drawings of the person you may have described." Scully held up the picture of the woman, while Mulder held the man's.

"Those... Those are exactly them! Except their noses, it was longer and pointier."

"Alright, thanks. Now, Scully will sleep upstairs while I sleep down here, so just in case he/she climbs in through the window or door, we'll know."

"Thank you." Mary breathed a sigh of relief. She glanced up sheepishly. "I'm sorry about what I said in the Station earlier. You are definitely not cruel... On the contrary, you've both been quite the opposite."

Mulder and Scully smiled. "It's fine," They said simultaneously. Mary smiled at them and headed up to bed. Scully helped Mulder set up a makeshift bed on the couch by bringing down the blankets and pillows provided for Mulder. As they were finishing up, Scully went back upstairs and returned with Mulder's gun. She opened his palm and said, "Just in case."

As Scully turned to leave, Mulder grabbed her arm. "What?" She asked.

Mulder smirked. "If it gets cold up there honey, just let me know."

Scully stifled a laugh. "Goodnight Mulder!"

"Night!" Mulder settled down on his couch. The embers of the fire in the hearth still burnt brightly. He pulled the covers up to his chin and placed his gun just a few inches away, so he could grab it quickly, if needed. Mulder closed his eyes and fell asleep.
