Switched- Part Ten Scully

Scully was jolted awake by Mulder. "SCULLAY!! One more day left! One more day left!" Then he threw himself onto the bed and flopped onto her back.

"Oof!" Scully grunted and rolled over, facing her partner. He was lying on her chest, looking down at her adorably. Scully took in his face, slender, pale, bright blue eyes. She knew, in just 24 hours, he'd be himself again. And who knew what would happen?

"Mulder," She groaned, raising herself up on her elbows. "It's 7:30 in the morning. No one's awake." Mulder wrapped both arms around her torso and buried her head in the crook of her neck.

"I can't believe it Scully." She knew what he was talking about. She barely believed it herself. "We lasted an entire year Scully. How'd we do that?" Scully absentmindedly ran her fingers through his red hair. It would be hers again, soon.

The last few months had been strained, for the both of them. Tensions ran high, especially when Mulder was going through that time of the month. Fights continually broke out, each blaming the other for the state they were in.

"It was your bloody fault Scully! If you hadn't found that Cube we'd be normal!!"

"Nothing happened until you came in! It was just a useless cube and then you somehow activated it!"

"BS! Just face it, Dana, you get us into this situation! You got yourself captured and that Chip in the back of your neck gave them your address! They sent us a trap, Scully!"

In a fit of desperation, She'd screamed angrily at him, words she'd kept tamped down until she finally imploded. "FINE! You know what, Agent Mulder, this is my fault! But this never would have happened if you didn't drag me around the county investigating UFO'S! Which, by the way, AREN'T REAL. So, forgive me for saying so, but Mulder. THIS. IS. ALL. YOUR. FAULT. I never would've been kidnapped if you didn't screw around with Duane Barry! I never would have gotten cancer and almost died! I wish... I wish you never were my partner."

Scully breathed deeply, staring down into Mulder's glassy, dazed blue eyes. She'd finally realized what she'd just said, and how cruel she'd been. She knew Mulder already agonized about it, and she'd literally stabbed him in the heart with her words. She reached out for him, voice breaking. "Mulder, I- I'm sorry. I never should have said-"

"No," He broke in harshly. "You're right. This is my  fault." Then he'd ducked under her arm, grabbed his keys and left. Scully spent the rest of the night, curled up  and sobbing under the blankets she'd shared with Mulder for the past few months. The bed felt awfully cold and empty without him. That had been on October 13th, Mulder's Birthday.

Scully breathed out slowly. The memories hurt her still, even now. She knew she'd hurt her best friend that night. It took 2 weeks of Scully apologizing endlessly to Mulder before he agreed to move back in with her.

"Scully?" Mulder asked, brushing back the stray strands of brown hair that was covering her eyes. "Are you okay?"

"Yes. I'm fine." Scully hugged him too, and they stayed that way for many minutes. The early morning sun shone through the opaque white curtains of the small bedroom they were in. The muffled sounds of the staircase creaking, the clinking of metal alerted them to the fact that someone else was up, and preparing breakfast. Neither of them made a move to help, too comfortable in each other's embrace.

The door cracked open, and Chelsea stuck her head in. A hand covered her eyes, though Scully was sure she was peeking. "Are you two lovebirds Decent? It's time for breakfast!"

"We're fine, Chelsea," Mulder's deep voice rolled smoothly out of her mouth. "Thanks for coming up to get us."

She nodded and removed her hand. "Hey, just being respectful ya know." Mulder got up and offered her a hand. Taking it, he pulled her up and both proceeded to get dressed. Once downstairs, they joined the Scully Family for breakfast. Matthew, who had just recently turned eight, grinned up at 'Uncle Mulder'. The two had become really great friends, mostly because Scully already knew everything Matt liked.

"Good morning Dana, Mulder! Here, have a seat!" Maggie smiled and beckoned them closer. Soon, their plates were heaped with bacon and eggs.

"Thanks Maggie." Scully smiled up at her mother. Soon, she could call her Mom again.

Their breakfast was filled with hearty laughter. Though it was only December 22nd, her family, after hearing she and Mulder couldn't make it on Christmas, inivited them over for an Early Celebration. Scully felt truly humbled her family accepted Mulder and her so thoroughly as to plan an early party.

After breakfast, they packed up their clothing and left Bill's house, after many good byes. Scully let Mulder drive. He seemed extremely hyperactive and wanted only for the day to be over. He seemed to be anticipating something.

"Where do you want to spend our last day as each other Scully?" Mulder asked, breaking into her contemplation.

"Let's go to the park." He nodded and exited the freeway. He pulled up into a quiet, not well known Park in the DC area. The sun was just starting to warm up the park, but still a chilly wind bathed them. Scully led Mulder into the shade of the trees, and in silence, they walked the trodden paths.

Snow littered the ground, evidence of last night's snowfall. Their breaths puffed up in clouds around them, and Mulder reached for Scully's gloved hand. Even through the chill of winter, the palm of her hand felt his warm embrace.

The walked hand in hand for hours, occasionally making comment on the nature they witnessed around them. A lonely bird tweeted on a frozen branch, it's song a lamentation for Spring. Suddenly, Mulder halted. Scully looked back at him, puzzled.

He stared up at her, a mitigated expression on his face. Scully opened her mouth to speak, but words rushed from his mouth in a hurry. "Scully, please, I can't go back to the way we were before. I've loved you, this whole entire year and it would kill me to go back to being work partners. I don't care if you hate me for this, I just need you to know. If you- you don't feel the same," His voice cracked at this, "Then I'll let you go. But answer me this- Will you marry me?" Scully stared at him, paralyzed.

Mulder had always been her best friend, as she was his. True, in a way she'd always loved him, but marriage? "Would it be better if I knelt?" Mulder inquired, trying for his snarky smirks to lighten the mood. He dropped to his knee- and produced a box. He flipped it open, and she gasped. Embedded in the soft velvet, a ring glittered with frosty light. The band itself was silver, two metal ropes that intertwined. A small, but astounding blue sapphire was the centerpiece. Tears flooded her eyes. Mulder was serious.

She grabbed his wrists, and pulled Mulder up. "You'll get a cold," Scully admonished, stalling for time as her mind ran in circles of jumbled thought. Mulder flashed a charming smile.

"Ever me Doctor, aren't you Sculls?" He waited patiently, looking up at me. As Scully stared into his, no- her eyes, she came to the conclusion that they matched the shade of the sapphire on the ring. The asnwer shot through her- and tumbled from her lips.

"No." Mulder gaped up at her, disbelief shining in his eyes. "I mean- not right now Mulder. Maybe- maybe in a month, once we're normal again and all."

"But.... Do you love me?" Mulder's question surprised her.

"Of course. You're my touchstone."

Mulder smiled. "And you are mine."

The alarm rang in Scully's ears, bringing her out of her deep slumber. Mulder, who had been settled in her embrace, shook himself awake and his warmth seeped away. Beneath them, at the front door, the doorbell rang. Within seconds, both were awake and in a mad dash toward the door. The stairs rumbled with their combined weight, and Mulder practically threw himself down the stairs.

The door swung open, and Scully peered over Mulder's shoulder. She knew, in just a few minutes, she wouldn't be able to do that anymore. On her doorstep was the cube they'd last seen a year ago. It was white and completely opaque, concealing the bright light inside. In a warped sense of deja vu, Mulder out the box on the same coffee table, in the same room, and sat on the same couch where it all started.

Scully settled herself next to Mulder, joining him in staring Intently at the large cube. At exactly, 9:30, on December 23rd, the box started to pulse blue and emit a light. Scully gripped Mulder's hand, breathlessly watching the light as it shone scintillatingly.

In mere minutes, it had grown completely white, obliterating everything around her but Mulder's hand in hers. The walls cracked open, and their mouths fell with it. Again, Scully’s bright blue soul floated out of Mulder's body, at the same time as his green one flew out of her form. The souls swirled around each other, casting a bluish green light on each of their  faces.

Scully's eyes drooped and Mulder fell onto her shoulder yet again. The last Scully saw in this body was the box admitting her soul with Mulder's and she fell into a deep sleep.

The whispering touch of lips on hers brought Scully to the world. Her eyes blinked open, meeting Mulder's green ones. Green.

She sat up, immediately raising her hands. Pale, short fingered and neatly kept. Familiar, brown ones crept around her wrist, holding them. She met Mulder's intense orbs. His lips twitched upwards into the much missed smirk. Involuntarily, her fingers came up and stroked the velvety skin. He closed his eyes, breathing out slowly.

"We're back." She murmured.

"I noticed." Mulder's arm wrapped around her waist and brought her up onto his lap. Already, Scully felt something poke her leg. She kissed his cheek, giving sense up for once. The arm tightened around her waist. "You missed." The rumbling cadence of his voice sent chills through her body. Scully was very much aware of the situation they were in. She was sitting, no, straddling, his lap and his lips were getting dangerously close to her neck.

She gasped as his deft fingers moved her red curls away from her neck. He had neglected to cut it during the year and now it swept down her back. Mulder's nose poked her lightly as his lips trailed enticingly down her skin. Scully's eyes rolled back and she wrapped her hands around his neck.

Mulder groaned as he reached the hollow at the base of her throat. "Scully..." He kissed it slowly, teasing her with his tongue. Impatiently, she drew his face back and drew forward- centimeters from his lips. His eyes had darkened and dilated, and she knew she looked the same. Bending to kiss his lips, Scully intertwined her fingers in his hair.

Breaking away, Mulder whispered. "I love you, Dana."

"I know, Fox. I love you too." The two people, friends, lovers, gazed into the others eyes. In the depth of his, Scully found a promise. A promise of a wonderful life ahead, if she wanted it. And she did. Oh yes, she did. Dana sealed the promise with another kiss, and just like Allysa and George Thompson, they married two years later.

Almost 40 years after the Switch had occurred, in the year 2038, Scully was standing in the kitchen. Her old, wrinkled hands were straining to wash the dirty plate. Mulder, old as he was, was sitting tiredly on the couch. His cataract, green eyes, which had never lost it's twinkle, were narrowed at the TV. The New York Yankees were playing in a hard game against the SF Giants. Scully's thin lips stretched into a smile. His obsession with the Yankees had never abated, and had been seriously considering getting a tattoo on his ass commemorating their World Series win 10 years ago. Scully had luckily talked him out of it.

The doorbell rang, and their AI, Samantha, said, "Visitors at the door. Two unidentified youths, in their late twenties. Would you like to see them?"

"Yes, Samantha, thank you."

Mulder, too busy staring at the figures in the screen made no move to get up and Scully activated the Hover Board she was on. It had been extremely expensive, as hoverboards had been banned from being sold to the general public 10 years previously because everyone was getting too fat. (😂😂😂 I swear this will happen in the future) However, the law did not extend to the elderly who had a hard time moving. As long as she and Mulder paid for it monthly with their weighty pensions from the FBI, they were allowed to use it.

The door swung open, sensing her approach. Indeed, two young people were standing there awkwardly. The taller one was a man, with bright red hair and twinkling green eyes. The girl, only 4 inches shorter had rich brown hair and eyes. "Hello? Can o help you?" Scully asked.

"Are- are you Dana Scully?" The woman asked. Her eyes darted around.

"Yes, this is she."

"Um... May we come in?" Having been FBI, Scully could tell the two didn't mean any harm. She typed In the password on the keypad next to the door.

Trust No 1.

The door swung open and Scully floated through the door to the Living room. Mulder looked up, interested as the two sat down. Scully sat next to her husband, waiting for someone to speak.

"Um.. You might find this hard to believe but..  We switched bodies." The girl said, rather bluntly

The man swatted his arm. "They don't even know who we are!" Turning to us, he said, "What my friend here said is true. We switched bodies. Last night, a cube arrived at his house and I was there. Bright lights came out and we went unconscious. When we woke up, we were in each other's bodies."

Mulder and I exchanged knowing looks. It seemed it was happening again. "What are your names? And how did you know to ask us?" Mulder asked.

"I'm actually the girl," the man said, pointing to her body. "My name is Aubrey Snow. Will hacked into the FBI's system to search for something like this."

The man in Aubrey's body smiled. "My name is William."

Scully raised a brow. "Just William?"

"I was adopted and I never knew my parents."

Scully's heart stopped. Then the words, came rushing at her, drowning her with it's implications. William!

I'm sorry this was late! But I hope you enjoyed the ending!! 💜💜💜 William!! Btw, they still had to give him up. So Switched is done! I have a few other Fanfic ideas but I need your help! Vote for the idea you'd like me to write about next:

1) Mulder and Scully investigate a case in which a witch turns people into the animals most like them. Mulder or Scully is turned into an animal and the other has to deal with their partner being like this and has to solve the case before the change is permanent! Cute and fluffy! Probably 5 parts or so.

2) Sculder AU. They've been best friends since forever, and Mulder loves Scully. However, Scully sees him as nothing but a friend. Will Mulder win her heart or will he be friendzoned forever? Maybe 2-3 parts. Idk.

3) Samantha mysteriously comes back, 28 years after she first disappeared. However, she's still the same 8 year old she was when she disappeared. How will Mulder and Scully's relationship change when Mulder is forced to be her father figure, instead of the brother he should have been. This will be a little longer of a story, and will probably take me longer to update.

I'd like feedback soon so I can start writing! I'll announce which one I'll be writing as soon as I get enougn comments! Thx!
