Chapter 6: Mute Girl?
I woke up from the pleasant sound of the birds chirping from outside the window, feeling completely refreshed.
Thank god it's saturday today.
I glanced to my right and frowned upon seeing Meredith's neat, empty bed. Sighing softly, I stood up and combed my short messy hair when my phone began ringing. I fished it out from under the pillow before pressing the answer button.
"Hello?" I began.
"Sis it's me, Soren. Since we're on a weekend right now, does hanging out sound good to you? Mason would be happy to tag along."
"Yeah sure, that would be fun. So where are we off to?" I asked as I slipped on my bunny slippers and went to my closet to rummage through my clothes.
"There's a mall just a few blocks away from Rosewood. Meet up with us at 9:30 in front of our dorm room."
"Got'cha. Catch you later, Soren." After ending the call, I began my daily routine. I wore a black My Chemical Romance hoodie, dark skinny jeans and some sneakers. Very emo-like, but totally my style. I slipped my dorm keys into my pocket before leaving the room.

"Bwahahaha! Are you kidding me right now? Ash, you really are something else!" I frowned and sipped on my matcha frappucino as I watched Mason laughing his ass off like a madman.
This guy's insane, I'm telling ya.
"Could you cut it out? People are looking at you weirdly, probably thinking that you just got possessed."
"But seriously though, first Jack and now you're involved with Levi? What are you, some kind of a popular magnet chick or something?"
"I'm not involved with that bastard. He's the one who started it all." I said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Yeah, but that was an accident so he didn't mean to involve you. You involved yourself with him by doing what he did to you on purpose. In other words, you're at fault here." I furrowed my eyebrows at him incredulously.
"Like I said, I'm not involved with him."
"Oh, really? Well apparently, you are now. Once Levi witnesses something interesting, he's gonna do everything to connect all the puzzle pieces together. He's quite the persistent guy, trust me." I shot him a challenging look.
"I can deal with that. I'll just kick his ass again. I'm sure he'd know better than to mess with me." Mason rolled his eyes.
"Suit yourself."
"But man, you were really cool back there. You literally kicked the ball right to his face! And not to mention he's the star player in our team. Maybe you should join the girls' team, your accurate target shooting skills would come in handy." Almost instantly, my mood drastically changed as I scowled at Soren. Flashbacks triggered in my mind and I squeezed my eyes shut, not wanting to remember the painful memory once more. However, it kept playing over and over my mind like a broken record, torturing me.
"Soren... you do remember what happened back then when I was in middle school, right?" I said bitterly, casting him a cold glare. My brother immediately clamped a hand over his mouth, his eyes filled with regret. He sighed softly.
"Sorry, that was insensitive of me." Mason seemed to understand what's going on as he gave me a soft smile.
"We should forget about our previous conversation. Besides, we came here to have fun, right? Let's just forget about Levi and soccer and let's cheer your sister up, Soren. How does going to the arcade sound, yeah?" I cracked a smile as I nodded.
"I'm in."
I groaned exasperatedly as I banged my head against the steering wheel after the words, 'You got 2nd place!' was flashed on the screen in front of me.
"Ha! Take that, Rockwell! If you haven't heard, I'm known as the king of the racers!" Mason boasted, placing his hands on his hips with a proud smirk.
"That's a pretty lame label if you ask me." I deadpanned.
"Hey! It's better than nothing!" He protested.
"Whatever. Let's do another round. I'm gonna kick your ass, Adams." I declared as I slipped another token inside the coin hole and pressed the start button.
"Heh, we'll see about that."
"Will you guys hurry up with that damn race already? I wanna play basketball shooting." Soren whined as he came up behind us, standing between our driving seats. I smirked as I gripped onto the steering wheel, feeling newfound determination surging within me.
"First, just sit back and watch my race match, my dear brother. Your sister's about to whoop your room mate's sorry ass."
"Now that's the feisty Ash Rockwell I know!" Mason hollored in amusement, his eyes glued on the screen as he waited for the match to start in anticipation. Soren stared at me in disgust.
"My dear brother? Hearing you say those sugarcoated words makes me wanna puke. That's so not you, sis." Mason and I chuckled in unison. Eventually, the racing match began and simultaneously, we stomped on the gas pedal as our respective race cars accelerated forward with incredible speed.
"Yes!" I cheered once I was able to overtake all the race cars and was ranked as first during the first lap of the race. Suddenly, a green race car came out of nowhere, bumping against my violet race car sideways.
"Not so fast, loser. Don't you dare underestimate me!" Mason said and I cursed mentally when his green car successfully whizzed past me, making me rank as second. I clicked my tongue in annoyance as I stomped on the gas pedal aggressively while narrowing my eyes on the screen.
"I won't let you win this time, knucklehead!"
The final lap of the race got me sweating in anticipation as I could distinguish the finish line up ahead. I gripped onto the steering wheel as my car accelerated forward, I could feel my excitement building up as I draw nearer to the finish line. But before I could pass by the black and white lane, a green car whizzed past my race car. I groaned in frustration, slamming my fists against the steering wheel.
"Fuck! I can't even win a single race for a living!" Mason grinned cheekily as he got off the driving seat.
"Don't make it a big of a deal. There's still a chance for you to win against me. How about we slay some zombies and see who's the best killer?" He suggested as he nudged my shoulder playfully. I grinned.
"Deal. This time, I'll win for sure."
"Wait a minute, how about my basketball shooting?" Soren butted in our conversation, pouting sadly.
"Go there by yourself." Mason and I said in unison. We looked at each other for a moment before we burst out laughing like total idiots.
"Wow, thanks for being such a good friend guys." Soren said sarcastically.
"Well, you can just watch us play The Walking Dead." I said casually.
"Nah, I'm good. I'll do some cross training by practicing my basketball shooting skills. Catch you guys later." Soren said as he turned his heel and began flexing his visible biceps which irked me.
He's a one damn athlete, alright.
Eventually, we grew exhausted and sweaty after two hours straight of playing arcade games so we decided to call it a day and went back to Soren's dorm.
"Today was awesome guys, thanks for inviting me Soren. That sure refreshed my mind from all the stress that has been eating me up for the past week."
"No problem. I'm glad to be of help." Soren said, giving me a two thumbs up.
"Bro, we should do this again some other time. It was fun whooping Ash's ass all the time." Mason said before he broke into laughter.
"Haha, very funny Mason." I said with a hint of sarcasm.
"Ooh, do you mean like you find it fun whooping my sister's ass literally~?" Soren teased with a perverted grin, stroking his chin as if he has a wizard's beard. I clamped a hand over my mouth, muffling my giggles while Mason looked like a blowfish, staring at Soren with a stupefied expression.
"Oh my god, you dirty-minded bastard! You made it sound like I'm some kind of a sadist or something!" He exclaimed inbetween fits of laughter as he began smacking Soren's arm.
"Dude! Ow!" Soren protested as he tried to shove his roommate away from him.
I began laughing hysterically like a maniac and held onto my stomach as tears gathered from the corners of my eyes.
"Ahahaha! Holy shit, Soren! That got me real good!" I screeched as I doubled over into laughter.
"Oh god Ash, you sound like a dying whale!" Mason said as he cackled into laughter and collapsed on the floor and began rolling over.
"I know that, dumbass!" I exclaimed, leaning against the wall for support as my stomach started to hurt from laughing too much.
"Ah, fuck I never knew you're such a huge pervert Soren." Mason panted as he gets up from the floor, still laughing.
"Tell me about it. Don't be deceived by his innocent baby face, dude." I added, flashing my brother a smug look.
"I have an innocent baby face?" Soren repeated, pointing a finger to himself.
"It's one of the reasons why no girl would ever date you." He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
"I'm not planning on dating anyone. Girls are so complicated, they tend to overreact in certain things. It's annoying. You included, sis."
"Oh, wow. I may be annoying but Levi's huge fan club is absolutely worse than me."
"Yeah, right. My morning was totally ruined because of that loud commotion going on." Mason agreed.
"I have ten thousand reasons to hate that guy." I muttered under my breath. Soren smirked.
"That might change overtime. After all, people are bound to change their viewpoints towards someone." I stared at my brother in disbelief.
"Once a bastard, always a bastard. Believe me, I know when I encounter one." I contradicted.

Crap! I totally forgot that Jack and I are supposed to continue our algebra project!
I checked my watch and it read 2:09 PM. Slipping on my black hoodie, I dashed outside my room and headed to Jack's room, which happened to be next to mine. I blinked in confusion when I heard muffled loud gun shooting sounds from a video game.
Since when has Jack been into video games?
Assuming that he just wanted to enjoy the weekend, I shrugged it off and twisted the door knob without knocking since Jack expected for me to come anyway. Unfortunately, the moment I stepped into the room, my eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. Sitting down on one of the beds casually with his blue eyes engrossed on his PlayStation portable and a glazed donut on his mouth, was none other than Levi Jackson. I fought the urge to laugh out loud upon witnessing a bandage on his nose. Before I could quietly sneak out of Jack's room like a ninja, Levi glanced up to my direction, his eyes growing wide as his beloved donut fell out of his mouth.
I totally forgot that bastard is Jack's room mate.
"Y-You!" He exclaimed, pointing a finger at me. I didn't respond and only raised an eyebrow skeptically. No way in hell I'm going to interact with this guy.
"You're that redhead girl who injured my nose!" I scoffed at his proclamation, crossing my arms and leaning against the door frame casually.
Obviously.
I furrowed my eyebrows when a soft chuckle escaped from Levi's lips before he looks up at me, flashing me a cheshire grin. He stood up abruptly and sauntered towards me, his grin never leaving his face.
"You know.." He began as he took another step towards me, his eyes remaining glued onto mine and I gulped nervously under his intense gaze. For a moment, I was paralyzed on my spot, my heart pounding loudly against my ribcage.
"I've never encountered a girl who's as aggressive and quite a tomboy as you. It's interesting, really. Especially since it's a hottie like you." I jumped in surprise when he slammed a hand against the wall just above my hand, his face a few inches from mine before flashing me a flirtatious wink.
"But still, you injured my precious nose. So how about.. you give it a kiss? After all, loving can heal right?" He said as he combed his blonde hair with his fingers coolly, flashing me an amused smirk. I seemed to snap from my trance as my expression changed into a scowl and my eye twitched in annoyance. Instinctively, I slapped him across the face, earning a loud yelp from Levi.
"Stay away from me, you playboy bastard!" I growled angrily. Instead of acting surprised, Levi bursts out laughing.
"Oh, wow! The mute girl speaks!" He declared in amusement. I stared at him, puzzled.
"Mute girl?" Levi placed his arms behind his head casually as another chuckle escaped from his lips.
"Ever since our encounter at the soccer field, you haven't interacted with me at all. But I'm glad you started talking to me now. Your voice sounds lovely by the way." He said and gave me one of his flirtatious winks, making me cringe in disgust.
"Shut the fuck up, Jackson. I'm not like your stupid huge fan club." I snarled venomously. Levi seemed unfazed as he tilted his head with a teasing smile.
"Man, you're quite the feisty one. I like that. And feel free to call me by my first name. I'd be very touched."
"No thanks. Jackson seems more fitting for a douche bag like you." I said and smirked at his dumbfounded expression.
"Such a dirty, foul mouth from a pretty lady like you." He scolded, although he looked amused as his blue eyes twinkled.
"Correction. I'm a young lad, you mean."
